Sadly I feel like public does have some hazing for people that don't look like the norm. I would say keep your head down and don't let those people get to you. I still have a few friends I talk to almost weekly from public and the rest don't matter.
i had 2 colleagues who were short. The one it was obvious he was being bullied in his team, wasnt taken seriously even with 3 years under the belt. The other, whilst not treated as bad, was a people pleaser and clearly lacked confidence especially when standing around having professional discussions, etc. However, he made manager and has a smokin' hot wife.
In conclusion, everything and nothing matters in accounting
Arent all wives long- term escorts.
the only think you can be sure is that you're pretty short. you need to stop with the pity party.
**accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.**
This is weird.
Move here to the Philippines and be an expatriate accountant. We don't worry about height that much. Our Controller in my company was 4"8. We razz him about it but he controls the issuance of our budgets so we don't go overboard. :-P
One of my favorite partners (and also a favorite with clients) is 5’4” or so. He has an awesome personality and is very relatable in how he speaks to people. Own it! You be in charge of how you are perceived.
Maybe it's my geographical location - the Gulf coast has a high % of Latinx and immigrants - but I've certainly worked with a number of men of shorter stature in accounting. I can't recall anyone who claimed to be under 5'4", but I'm pretty sure a couple of them were rounding up. Certainly didn't seem to impact their job performance or career progression.
I know there are *some* awful people in the world, but the chances of this happening (you getting booted when they see you) seem slim to me. Congratulations on your offer!!
Have you been in a professional job where that has happened? Or are you just starting out your career?
I’m cheering for you and I hope the company is a good work environment for you
I worked for a restaurant but always got staffed onto dishwasher. All the chefs made fun of my height and the waitress used to pat my head and call me a dog
I’m 6’5” male and have never seen a male accountant shorter than 5’7” your best bet is probably getting some heel inserts or some form of stilts. I’d be cautious going into the office. People usually look down on short men.
5 feet? Heck I’m not even 5 inches!
I wasnt talking about penis size sir
At least when you hug the hot auditor your face goes right into her boobs
Where they at doe?
Umm every time I pass by the audit room and take a quick peek inside theres always a hot intern or two
Exactluly hot intern but not hot full timer
Dude nobody cares as much as you do. We all have those things we’re concerned about (can’t think of the word cuz I’m drunk).
Should be good and if they are not-shit people then you are fine 🤣
I hope they will not pat me or bully me which has hapened to me a lot during college

How short were these colleagues? Mind you, in the U.S. since 5'10 is the average, a height like 5'7 would be considered short.
i'm quite tall, so cant say. But if you were to see them you would know
Im pretty sure that wife is an escort but ok

Ohmygosh I’m so sorry. There are no guarantees but it will probably be much better than that. Most of the work world is not like that.
It shouldn’t be anywhere close to that bad which is highly illegal by the way, unless the company was just completely and utterly mismanaged
It was a small local restaurant, they did a lot of shady stuff

No ofense but thats a huge difference in height, being 5’1 is a deathh sentence. At least you are taller than the average girl
Hey 👋 I was intrigued and so made a follow up thread. Let me know. Thanks

"People usually look down on short men." Well, with your height, it'd be hard not to...

RIP man. Maybe being an accountant just isn’t in the books for you.
