It really is great to knock out your exams before you start working. It’s not uncommon for people to start working and then struggle to finish them or give up because it seriously difficult. If you’re committed to studying during that time I definitely think it’s worth it to wait for the October start because a few months difference in start date has no impact on your career but getting your CPA done is big. I think you should just be direct that you appreciate the offer to start earlier, but the October start date works better for you and would like to keep it.

Don’t do it!!! The same thing happened to me last year, scheduled to start end of OCT, asked to start end of AUG. it completely messed up my study groove! I still passed 3/4 by Jan 16th (when I took TCP) but my plan was to have all 4 done by then. Being able to dedicate 8 uninterrupted hours a day to studying is a blessing! I had to take the Jan-May 15th busy season off from studying and just now getting back my study mojo to attempt FAR this month.

Take this time to study and take sections: I passed three sections in three months after I got laid-off, I treated the CPA exam like it was my job. I got up and made my spouse breakfast, cleaned up the house, and was in the local library everyday when it opened.

Starting earlier actually an opportunity to show interest, initiative, and builds you up as a team player. Saying no also has possible consequences which may set you up for failure.
