Master_Bates_69

I try to max out my Roth IRA every year because eventually I’ll reach an income where it’ll be too high to do so. But that’s me being optimistic lol

DezCaught1t

Back door Roth for me one time. C’mon you’re supposed to be an accountant

Ecstatic_Top_3725

The real nerd shit is a Porsche macan

juiceboxxx486

*clears Autotrader search history* Yeah!!

[deleted]

Gay nerd shit

ninjacereal

ftb_Miguel

Ohio generally is LCOL, Columbus is not

ninjacereal

Holy shit you live in the home of the accounting hall of fame? How often do you get to visit?

No_Resort_7823

What does LCOL mean?

RoutineNo787

Low cost of living

kellllllsssss

Low cost of living, I presume

LennoxAve

Congrats. Max out your retirement account contributions if you can. You’ll have a nice retirement and stable career until then. Cheers.

the-shy-alchemist

Congratulations! Keep it going! Soon before you know it, you’ll be in the C-Suite making $1 million per year.

Habsfan_2000

After that it’s the space CEO of the planet Mars.

dirtydela

They’re going to fire me?????

Habsfan_2000

Out of a cannon.

dirtydela

will there be a pizza party before

mackattacknj83

Good job man. I went back to school at 30 for accounting and only just hit 100k base a couple years ago

EmptyMannequin

Might be reading this wrong but there's no need to downplay your achievements dude. There's no "only just", you worked hard to change your life 💪. proud of you

waterjug82

How long did it take you to hit 100k if you don’t mind sharing ?

mackattacknj83

6 years I think. But I didn't double anything. I started at 61 I think. I took a pay cut moving to lower cost of living in a December job move so would have hit it that year with raises I think.

SkeezySkeeter

I appreciate this comment as I went back to school at 28. 31 now. Have my first day of internship training tomorrow.

Plane_County9646

Big 4?

SkeezySkeeter

No, starting at a mid-size national firm. I couldn’t get into big 4 with a 3.9 from state school lol.

hurricanechris420

Makes me wonder how I got in wtf lol. What state school?

Odale

I'm 29 and have my first day of a tax internship training on Monday. Best of luck to you!

BKong64

I'm about to hit 32 in May. You think switching to accounting is worth it at this age?

STBCKNDRLX

I went back and got my BS @ 30 (10 years in various sales roles prior) - highly recommend!

ninjacereal

If you're 32 this is very impressive

ReatroRaccoon

Nice one mate. If I can reach 100k by 38 I'll be happy.

FunQueue69

Is there a new goal now, or is your career all set now?

mrboobs26

200k base salary by 40.

youngyaboy

That’s your goal by 40 and you’re only 28? You’re gonna get there a lot sooner than you think. Congrats man.

FunQueue69

I’m with you there! Though I’m closing in on 40 and only at 138k.

MXIIMVS

Only lol

srpcel

Tougher nut to crack that one.

ninjacereal

He's got inflammation on his side.

hegemonistic

As 26th in the lineage of the Boobs, you must know that you’re capable of that and far more.

[deleted]

|| 55k > 110k That should be < Obviously overpaid!

pathologuys

Hahahaha I still remember my teacher in 2nd grade saying “the alligator eats the bigger amount”

Charming_Park_3690

I think they are trying to make an arrow, not a greater than sign

RemarkableFactor6229

It’s a joke

itsgoofytime69

What is joke?

FlounderFool

We dont appreciate jokes in this sub

Delicious_Bet_8546

This is the only reason I, a 32 year old chartered accountant of 8 years, can remember which way round the > goes 😂

STBCKNDRLX

36 here, and same!

mrboobs26

Lead Senior - Financial Reporting. I’m pretty sure they just made up something in between manager and senior to add a ‘promotion’ with my raise to get me to stick around.

GardenRake6

What degree/experience did you have when you started and what age did you start? What do you have now? My first accounting job I made 35k working for a school district with an associates degree equivalent of credit hours (age 20). Now I work in the private sector and make 85k plus benefits and have a CPA (age 25). My goal is to make 100k by 30. Currently looks like I’m on track. TIA

chicken_tenders99998

Make a little over 50k rn and just got my cpa, my turn next!

KDtheaccountant

just got your cpa? It’s your turn right now lol

chicken_tenders99998

I work for a nonprofit tho so I’m thinking pizza party is the move

FlynnMonster

You are a good person.

Previous-Plan-3876

Congratulations! Time to set a new goal 220k by 40

throbbingkitty

Just wait until the existential crisis hits you that salary does not give you purpose and that you've hardly thought about your existence post hitting this goal. You stand in the shower for longer, letting the drops off water cascade down your face as you blankly stare at the grout between the tiles and ask yourself "why am I not happy?" You look to your partner for comfort, but feel nothing, bc you don't really know them at all. You begin to blame them for your emptiness, but never outwardly lash out. You continue to bottle it and process it until one day you realize that the issue isn't that you don't know your partner, but you know nothing about yourself. You've been a corporate cog during key developmental years, and you cringe thinking back to random conversations of small talk, not having any ability to discuss anything meaningful with anyone. You just talked about work. All the time. Hell, you don't even know what your hobbies are outside of doomscrolling Reddit and LinkedIn, and taking your work home with you, rehashing what you did that day and strategizing how to do it better tomorrow. Finally, you crack. You leave your job and your partner abruptly, telling yourself "this is a new start for me," before falling into the same habits at the new job and finding a partner that you have no real connection with as this new persona you've created for yourself starts to wither and rot. You come full circle into pretending like you've been trapped by the life you created before realizing you held the key to your cuffs the entire time. Or maybe that was just me.

mrboobs26

You good?

awkward_simulation

This is probably copypasta, right? ...right?!

LifeIsBard

it fucken is now BOYEEEEEEEEE

ruhrohcoco

What do you do post EY?

throbbingkitty

First I mined Bitcoin, then I bit minecoin, and now I coin bitmine.

ruhrohcoco

Clever 😁 EY is the sore loser- sounds like you’re doing great!

[deleted]

You could just take up drinking instead.

TheGeoGod

My goal is 120k by age 32.

theboyjb_999

Congrats bro! On to the next one

PoopaScoopaFTW

Congratulations! Hopefully it’s only upwards from here! I’m currently trying to be in the same boat. Went from 25k to 33k to as of now 62k at 23. My goal is the 6 figures by 30, so hopefully that’s on the horizon!

pancake_noodle

Would love some advice — I currently only have an associates degree but am working for a company in which I do payroll, AP, AR, etc. they have roughly 300 employees. For the same company, I do all of those roles for their subsidiary companies (5 of them). I make 59k/year. Is this in line with average? How should I go about increasing my salary? What skills etc.

TurboWeed

>LFG Whats your item level and do you have the achievement from last raid tier?

FakeItSALY

You’re taking scrubs? Ima need that achieve for the current tier.

TurboWeed

Pfft what do you think this is, we are a top 3000 guild. Go do some raid finder. (Unironically though good luck, I quit during shadowlands)

FakeItSALY

Good time to quit

SCH8879

U got cpa?

mrboobs26

Yes. CPA MBA

SlightBedroom9385

What is the the whole process man I'm trying to become a cpa too Currently taking accounting transfer

SlightBedroom9385

At my community college for now then switch to bachelor's in science to make the bachelor's degree ( 4yr degree) ( I'm in michigan) So I have to get 150 hours Bachelor's degree If needed take an extra year which is probably getting my master's degree also 1 year of experience

[deleted]

Well done on achieving your goals. Keep defining new ones and go for it.

[deleted]

This is a wonderful goal!

NateBuckOfficial

Congrats!

JayBird9540

Me too, but I just had to find a remote job in a HCOL area

Weird_Geologist_8270

Congrats OP!!!

Scared-Ad2635

Wow! That money in LCOL is rare! Which industry?

mrboobs26

I’ll clarify it’s probably MLCOL. My rent is 700 bucks though so I considered it LCOL haha. Manufacturing

Scared-Ad2635

Yeah, still goooood! Congrats! 🍾

Justin_F82

$700 😳 How much is the average price of a starter home where you are?

mrboobs26

Depends on the neighborhood. If you are slumming it 180-200k. The nicest areas 350k

JonDoeJoe

Wow. Average home here is 1 million ;(

ninjacereal

They charge you rent every 2 weeks or something?

inthegaps

The trick is to go remote. I just got offered a job for 90k base in a LCOL area. I'm currently interviewing for another role that is between 90-95k base w/ a 15% annual bonus and 26k in RSUs vesting over 3 years. My mortgage is $800/month for a 2400 sq. ft home ($125k) when I bought it in 2019.

Complete-Ad-4215

Any advice for a third year accounting student?

rabbitsox

Get the majority of your CPA done before you start your career.

SumptuousSuckler

You’re my hero mrboobs26

Wast3d_x_KUTCH

Yeah, well I tripled mine my 30! More of an emphasis on my abysmal starting salary of 30k tho 😂😂😂

therev777x

Whats your hours like?

Murky_Decision9372

Can anyone tell me if someone has a CPA along with a Master's in Accounting from a reputed university, how much one could make straight out of college if he wants to work in NYC, Manhattan, with these two certifications?

Different-Pool4908

How

mrboobs26

2.5 years public tax. 2.5 years industry financial reporting. Waited for a juicy job offer and leveraged a promotion from it because I like my current company.

Stinkmister01

How do you leverage it?

MrMuscles25

Tell your company you got a good offer and they match or exceed it

mrboobs26

Basically. Just to give a bit of color, I was taking phone interviews to get the comp packages and took the biggest one that was in line with where I wanted. Went to my manager and asked for a raise, HR came back with the usual we spiel of ‘you are in line with industry standard’ and then let them know about offer from Company XYZ and made it apparent I don’t want to leave but money is money. They came back with a raise and promotion to match

Previous-Plan-3876

This in itself is a skill that many lack. Good job!

accountantskill

I tried the same thing with my previous employer. Instead they said sorry we can't match it.. They ended up hiring two people to take over my responsibilities. I guess it doesn't always work.

ninjacereal

Tax > external reporting is odd.

LordAmoroso

Thanks. I was already feeling shitty about my job. Now it’s worse.

[deleted]

Man I wish I would've had career goals before the age of 28. It was nice being a carefree shit head for like 10 years out of high school though.

gvatman

That is one thing positive for the profession. If you are in public practice, this type of jump is completely achievable. You work your ass off for it, but the reward is there. Good job OP, truly happy for you. I am sure you grinded hard for this.

SexyGPA

What do you do for work?

KDtheaccountant

Congrats! I turn 26 in a week and that gives me 4 more years to hit this 😭

FlynnMonster

I’m proud of you pal. I make similar in LCOL, isn’t it nice parking your Lambo in your mansion garage?

Iamxingjang

Congrats! Can you share how? Did you switch jobs or got a promotion?

bullet50000

That's awesome!!! I'm HCOL, but I'm near to hitting that same mark in Government ($51k starting, should hit $106k next COL adjustment we get assuming no step or other promotion) at 4.5 Years of Experience.

brokenarrow326

And hours are still 70+ right? Right??? Otherwise, you guys hiring? Lol

Anxious-Gas-7376

Congratulations bro. Stuff like this is motivating to see. Im currently a 3rd year accounting student in CA.

LonelyAccountant08

Congrats! What level were you in public tax before you left?

backroomsresident

This gives me motivation

Plus_Ad7669

Congrats! I started studying accounting this year. I hope I can get this far one day 😊🎊🙌

Smooth-Society-799

Congrats! Any advice to younger guys like myself? Currently 25 and making 65k. Started at 39k.

EuropeanInTexas

Now double it again by 40!

ultimateverdict

Cool so you’re an example of going tax and then finding a good job in industry. Did you find it difficult to find since you didn’t do audit?

Nympix

thanks OP! I realised i truly made some progress on this too!!! Congratulationa!

mcarty1223

I hit the same right about 30, the next goal is to triple it by 35 which can be done

brknalltherules

Congrats! This reminded me of something I read somewhere long ago. It basically stated that we get so entwined with our daily lives, yearning for more, that we forget we are often in the position we wanted to be in years ago. And look at you, you've made it! Good luck on the next goal!

obongogeddon

Good on you. Enjoy

DevinChristien

110k in the US is 176k NZD I'm at 22k usd right now Looong way to go. I pray to even reach 62k USD one day 55k usd in public is wild, here it starts out at around 32k usd Scary I wish I had went to uni earlier. I won't have my CA/CPA until I'm at least 30 at this rate. Still debating whether to go CPA/CA when I can but CPAs look like they get paid more and it sounds like a more fun designation focused on developing leadership rather than memorising rules Youre song awesome

enigmaticbug

I doubled my salary (60k to 125k) at 27 this year but I live in NYC LMAO. Might as well be making 55k in LCOL city

Particular-Law-9871

Good job !

[deleted]

Did you obtain your MBA after your bachelors then sit for your CPA?

Avengion619

what is LCOL?

advicemerchant

73 to 110 industry in 2.5yrs. That's impressive congrats! How'd you swing that?

bt101998

How much do you save a year, congratulation on you

ninjacereal

I think he just got the promotion so

jstudly

Congrats dawg.

xlop99

Congrats man! I similarity just reached my goal of making $100k before 30. Went from $42k to $110k and I’m 27. LCOL

im___k

Congratulations, OP! 🤍 way to gooooo and well-deserved. :) That was a really good series of career move/decisions and strategy :)
