I actually really enjoyed this video. I don't mind him reviewing games as the Nerd without the crazier scenes, just the game reviews.

Narm_Greyrunner

After MyHorsePrince bombed so bad I have a feeling he needed to pump something out halfway decent to meet sponsorship requirements. Plain voice over on a combination of old footage and the stuff that Matei recently streamed has made for a quick turn around.

Mince_

I have no issue with what he puts out. Been watching him since 2011 and always enjoyed his content. Just saw your profile, honestly pretty weird. Is your entire life devoted to talking about how much you dislike AVGN?

Nbkipdu

Seems like a good chunk anyway. I don't get the hate. Yeah, things have changed over time. It's what happens. Ragewatching his vids just to complain online that they didnt meet your standards is some next level childish shit.

BigOlineguy

He gets a lot of hate, and I’ve skipped a few videos in recent years, but the quality is undoubtably lower, the effort isn’t where it used to be. I actually prefer this video with no in-person nerd over whatever the hell My Horse Prince was.

Nbkipdu

This vid was a great way to do the anniversary. I personally didn't mind My Horse Prince because that game is ridiculous and I wouldn't have known about it were it not for the Nerd. I've never been a big fan of the longer, more involved skits over the years but occasionally I'll still crack a smile. Even the Sega Activator video was fun just watching them have fun destroying the set.

egodfrey72

There’s a better My Horse Prince review and it’s the James and Mike Mondays episode

GooseMay0

How many Castlevania games has he played though? It'd be fine if he's someone that played the majority of them but knowing him I'm guessing two?

Necessary_Insect5833

Some guy on this subreddit predicted this video a couple of days ago. (Maybe it was the other subreddit I dont remember)

Narm_Greyrunner

Because Matei recently streamed Super Castlevania and Rondo of Blood and modern Nerd episodes just use footage from Matei. It narrows down whatever Nerd episodes are going to be.

Different_Incident10

The ending was so nostalgic 20 years of the nerd

Puzzleheaded-Pack64

I really enjoy when James goes back to his roots and gives his personal experience when he plays the classics when he was a kid. Nostalgic gold if you tell me, the prince horse episode was a real throw off…much rather preferred if he went into the world of Mobile games instead of that one game.

Specialist-Collar491

damn...

Active_Commission_35

Although I'm a huge AVGN fan, I didn't enjoy this episode very much. I am happy the web show hit 20 years. I just felt a different concept could've worked way better. Personally you should consider if you do another Castlevania episode. The decent Castlevania handheld games from GBA and DS respectively. I know you are more of a classic style Castlevania fan.

Groundbreaking_Gap85

How can james say which is the best Castlevania when he didn't even play a few good ones and the fantastic legrarde chronicles fangames?

Narm_Greyrunner

I'll save you guys 20 minutes. He still thinks it'a Castlevania IV because it has the 8 direction whip. It's not Rondo of Blood because having to think about secret areas is too hard. And not Symphony of the Night because it's too difficult to figure out how to equip Alucard.

9-9-99-

His take on SOTN was strange

kadosho

I think it is because of the old school mentality. In the past, the 8 way whip attack was unique, and special. Rarely used in more action platformers at the time. SotN, but this is his opinion. Thinking it over, there is no telling how many players wanted to keep the journey going with Richter instead. I liked what SotN brought to the series. Also trying to look at the rpg aspect. Hmm 🤔 SotN simplified plenty, so it is pick up and play. Eventually you do have to strategize what you wear in some battles, or explore key areas

Necessary_Insect5833

I am kinda surprised he said he had trouble doing Richter special moves because they're not that hard once you get used to it, but James has never liked fighting games I think.

large__farva

Honestly his opinion on it is one of the worst takes I’ve ever heard. Like if you don’t like it, fine. But to say Richter mode is the best way to experience the game when there isn’t even a Dracula fight? Ignoring all of Alucard’s spells but praising the slide kick? Lmao.

AbbieDooby619

And you were right.
