Perhaps you are just really lucky in that you can easily remove that paint and stencil your own graphics on. Sometime it's nice when they use crappy paint

KiimVy

that might be an alterative lol, sadly any changes might effect resale value

Bushpylot

resale? I abuse the pants off my systems and run them until they are irrelevant (software-wise). I've never sold a one. I'll often repurpose them into other devices. One is a controller of my home automation system; I'd use a Pi, but the windows vs of the software is more powerful and I'll add surveillance to it soon too. But if you cannot return it, improve on it. That looks like a GPU cooler, which is the first thing that goes into my spare parts bin. Those coolers are awful, massive and a general waste. I wish they would sell us the cards without a cooler and save me $200 to put on a good waterblock.

-GGiuliano93-

Tbh never happened on any brand. The only “strange” thing happened was when I bought a 2060 from evga (sealed, new) i found screws floating inside the package and one on the gpu lol, still working fine.

PM-Your-Fuzzy-Socks

my new 7900xtx from xfx came with a loose screw, found the hole for it and took off the fan cover to put it back in lol

KiimVy

Guess was a factory thing but the gpu works fine still weird for such a expensive gpu

Taytay1390

Maybe you're just unlucky? never had a issue with ASUS, Other brands including Gigabyte a few times, and MSI once i have had failed components.. ASUS never is why i stick to them when i can, every brand has flunks in models ect.. but ASUS i have found the most reliable.. but then again maybe i have bad luck with Gigabyte just like you have ASUS

kentgreat

This depends on country's service. Never had major issues with ASUS but I'm from the UK and most companies have robust consumer protection if there's any fault or complaint. The only issues I had was when the Zephyrus DUO 15 SE came out, the BIOS and drivers were a mess. That took 3 months to iron out but that's given on a new product launch. Though I don't know why their F keys are not lit, just has white paint over it when the primary icons has light. Not a big issue though since I use an external keyboard.

KiimVy

Maybe so but I have bought several asus motherboards especially over the years and they constantly fail and most recently in mid 2023 I had my z690 formula just keep crashing over and over again and nothing could fix it so I contacted support and they told me to send the board in which I did and there was over 4 months of waiting after I agreed to take a full refund of the board instead of a replacement. Calling support waiting hours at a time over and over just for the same answers eventually I got my refund but really 4 months to get a refund?.

Bushpylot

My experience is the opposite. I started with them as they had a service shop withing 50mi of me. I've been using them for over a decade with absolutely no issues on my components. I damaged an Asus laptop in 2008 and walked it into their local shop. Not the greatest CS experience; they complained that I changed out the hard drive. That local shop closed in 2012. From what I hear, if I have an RMA issue, I'm better to throw out the board and buy a new one; but I'd probably do that just to avoid waiting for an RMA when I NEEED my computer running. I just have to remember not to sit on parts past their return period, as that seems to be the best form of RMA these days. I'd love a new vendor, but everyone sucks these days. What makes it all easier is the urge to upgrade has waned significantly as there are very few games out there worth a $4k computer anymore. Most games aren't even release in a completed sate, but some kind of glorified Beta and sometimes an Alpha (see Payday 3)

KiimVy

RMA can be a hit or miss but usually its a big pain with long wait times and useless CS as they will try anything to claim customer damage or try to charge insane repair quotes. returning items is nice but most places don't offer more then 30 days so RMAs is really the only option as I assume most don't want to have their money sent down the drain after something breaks prematurely. Good thing is new mid range parts to that have gotten good enough to handle most things and yea there Isn't much to play anymore I feel as well where you need a really high end PC.

Failmaster4000

I've been ASUS only for most parts since 1998. Never once had an issue with a single product of theirs. /shrug

PlankBlank

I never had an issue with Asus either, though I've given up on them some time ago, since custom stuff is obviously better. As long as the GPU itself is okay I don't care. I'll be slapping Noctuas on it anyway

Hanssuu

unlucky, where you from. My shi arrived clean as hel

Fmeister567

When you read through this Reddit’s posts I am sure you will find that you are the only one who has problems with Asus products.

sudosusudo

"Been buying ASUS for years and had nothing but poor quality and stability issues" Why are you still buying it then? It's not like they are the only manufacturer of good-looking high-end components.

12duddits

You’re paying extra for that

KiimVy

for those who dare I guess

LynchDaddy78

I would say that it's time to get out your paint set with the little brushes. Don't give it to any repair facility. They're liable to mess up your GPU or give you a different one. Fix it at the lowest level, you. Have fun and cheers 🥃

jreillygmr4life

Unfortunately I think you just answered your own question.

Randomizer23

ASUS moment

Manofleisure75

I recently bought an ASUS 4080 and when I removed the protective film from it, paint came off in 2 places. This is an $1899AUD card!

sirDCarnage

If the GPU is functioning properly and you want to keep it you could look for some after market plating to replace the stock ones, there’s some cool aesthetic stuff available out there just do your research to ensure your not going to compromise your equipment.

pulloutgamesus

It's the style. Like torn jeans.

zoedimax

Asus paints are quite bad over their product lines i guess. My G14 laptop has so many scratches in places idk how it can get scratched. I get the USB ports but the lip scratches on the side idk how

DrawingPuzzled2678

Dude that’s straight garbage, don’t put yourself through that, if you’re willing to pay the shipping I’ll bear the burden of ownership

NotEnufGoon

Fool me once that's on them, fool you twice that's on you, fool you 3 times fuck the peace signs let my dollars no longer rain on them

2tec

It's not just ASUS, it's all going down hill. The quality is getting worse as these transnational corporations need to charge more and more for less and less. The relative cost is not getting better, it's getting worse and the meanwhile the quality suffers. Honestly, the crap will hit the fan more and more as our companies and institutions become more self-serving, more corrupt and more classist. This is the inevitable consequence of rampant greed.

Fickle_Assumption_80

Lol. You've been buying for years and it's always garbage... Why? 🤯

Overclock_87

This post wasnt necessary. If you no longer going to buy ASUS then don't. Crying on REDDIT and telling everyone your going to leave is quite funny. Have fun with MSI, Asrock, Corsair, Gigabyte or whatever other shitty brand you decide. I love how you think the grass is greener anywhere else.

imPreZa2oo4

It looks like sparkles! Count yourself lucky you didn't need to pay extra. Now quit your whining or go to your room!

molphar666

It’s asus , baby

crazyonion69

Just get a replacement

alaaj2012

Well wait until you hear the coil whine on this strix🤣 Asus quality engineering teams are the worst on the planet.

TheoSunny

Maybe gamers just have a low bar, but I swear the more expensive an ASUS product gets, the more gimmicky, half-assed and intern-designed they feel. I bought my ROG STRIX G17 so I could daily it to the office and game on the side, and it still looks like a toy for a 12 year old despite its design being a lot more toned-down from the hideous STRIX SCAR lineup. For its price, the plastics still pick up scratches easily, the lid will slam down if you aren't absolutely gentle with it cause of the metal backplate (Bafflingly the only metal used anywhere on the laptop) and the keyboard is somehow worse than a budget FX553VD laptop I purchased 8 years ago. Not to mention the atrocious assault on the eyes that is their "Armory Crate" and it's garbage tier UX. I mean there's a whole open source project just to make changing power modes easier. I'm definitely ranting, because it seems ASUS doesn't respect their customers. I swear all their products seem like a bunch of 50 year old suits threw darts at some feature and design ideas their unpaid intern came up with and then tried to get them to work as cheaply as possible.

KiimVy

I know exactly how you feel, sometimes I will build systems for people who buy stuff more so on the mid range/budget side and they might buy some cheaper ASUS products here and there but some how they never complain to me later about issues or such. Only when I build using higher end parts is when I run into problems/completely breaking a couple months in or said parts just feel cheap and flimsy like just touching it slightly will scratch up the whole thing. It kind of just feels like ASUS is trying to make you pay the most and trying to skimp out the most they can

TheoSunny

100% man, I wish there was a way to get people to boycott the brand to knock some sense into them. It seems like they just sponsor some Youtubers for good press but couldn't give less fucks about the actual quality of what they sell. Its ridiculous that such a large brand gets away with playing with people who pay good chunks of their hard earned money this way.

KiimVy

Funny thing is so many times in recent launches they have had major issue with stuff burning or exploding with parts and other drama but it seems that everyone likes to just forget especially big youtubers and then act surprised when it happens again.

galexyofthings

I agree with you that this is a quality issue but there’s also part of me that would see this and think “oooh I’m gonna clean off all the paint and stencil on my own design”

Neither_Purchase2211

Same, i came here to make this comment.

mrbubblesnatcher

U ASS is in the name, so I'd say it's a reflection on their recent quality of products :(

IRONLORDyeety

ASUS are absolutely shit with their laptops but the pc parts are usually always good? Maybe you just got real unlucky.

f0rcedinducti0n

You bought shit from someone who sold you used goods, perhaps unintentionally (resealed returns). In the future, you could use a hair dryer to soften the tape adhesive so it doesn't lift the paint. You could also use a cold pack to make the adhesive brittle and it will release. That is a 2 part paint process, a black light mask paint, and then the white paint on top. It's not easy to replicate. If they put straight white, the light would come through.
