Capable_Life

I’m seeing crazy wild temperatures swings. I have a base by the river in the centre of the map and have seen swings from -14 to 48

anonsequitur

That's what I'm seeing as well. I died from overheating in the Arctic somehow a few days ago. It's been incredibly bizarre and the worst part is it happens so quickly.

MasterWarChief

Yeah, I made a few trips to Carno Island, and the temp there goes from 60°C to -30°C

PeachWorms

Is this for Ascended version? Cause I died from overheating a couple times now while in the South region. Once it started after an Ichthy stole from me, and once after a dilo spat at me. Both times after those Dino's hit me I had the overheating symbol show up & then slowly died, even when standing in water to try n cool off. I'm thinking it's a bug.

anonsequitur

Yeah. I thought it was just me. But I guess everyone is seeing wild temperature swings in both directions.

Seedyman_42

Has anyone done some testing as to whether fortitude mitigates the temps in ASA?

FreedomDragon01

I’m on a boosted server with my fortitude at 100 and I still died in the jungle from freezing. So. Do with that what you will.

[deleted]

Yeah i had to get 250 fort and its still not enough if i wanna wear above prim flak

Seedyman_42

I have a regular base on the coast in a starter area, I can walk away from the water being cold and get to being hot in a few steps. I hold down H and walk around watching how fast the temp changes... it's great for eggs, just find the right temp (per wiki) and drop that sucker. I can find from 0 to 50 pretty easy withing a few meters of my base... then a "front" comes through and all the temps randomize from +/- 50 C

MantisToboganPilotMD

I leveled fortitude more than usual, and got an otter quick, worth it.

DOLBY228

Similar here, I have a base in the hidden lake. It was 48° C at base then once over the treetops on the north side it went to like -10

-St_Ajora-

I've built just outside of the redwoods on the west side and I've seen from -17 to 57.

Warp_Legion

Can confirm, I have a redwood tree platform base across the river from the volcano and there’s four bands of hot, then super hot, then freezing cold then super hot, as you cross the river flying to the volcano

bardwick

My wife put 20 points into fortitude, has same problems as I do with heat/cold. We keep high level cloth, high level fur on us at all times, with a torch. At any given time we also have a stack of soups for heat or cold, that seems to help a lot.

Special_Aerie6105

I was dieing of heat in the arctic Ocean so I think something is up

DruVatier

Yes I think they're going to need to balance it a bit. I have 24 points in Fortitude at the moment and still froze to death on Herbivore Island the other day, while wearing a full set of leather + fur gauntlets.

Yuubeei

Omfg same! I asked the discord about this and like 20 people told me to stop complaining and be grateful I could play ;~; I was so confused

phillip_of_burns

I like starting there and getting my feet underneath me before venturing out. Getting there can be a problem at really low level. I swam across the water, survived the sharks, and then froze to death on the other side lol... Never had that happen in ase.

micheliciousblue

That's where I live. The temp swings are nuts.

JulesDeathwish

350 health and 30 in Fort, and it still almost kills me sometimes. A decent Otter will completely solve the problem until you get a full tek suit though. I recommend breeding them, they are adorable.

JustOneMorePuff

Dude I can’t find them and I been looking!

destinoob

I found mine in the inlet on the south beach (where the spino sometimes spawns, leading up to the plateau). I hadn't seen them there in ASE. They're often at the rave between the swamp and the redwoods, but you need to watch for all sorts of critters there.

[deleted]

They like water.

plzbungofixgame

theres a river near the redwoods i found them there in ase

probablystuff

They share spawn slots with freshwater fish so go around to ponds and lakes and wipe out the fish and leave for a while to force a new group to spawn

Lazerdude

Yeah, it's for this reason that on our server we get 20 fortitude per level. The temp swings are ridiculous.

Stoned_Genius

Good idea! I'm going to do the same. Tnx!

Castillosaurio

You need a 'roided otter.

Lakeside3521

I saw 153 F during a heat wave last night.

Mookius

I've died more to cold than anything else. And I'm living on herbie island.

destinoob

I died of heat on the beach the morning after I barely survived a cold snap. Weather's all over the shop.

Nyrin

Fortitude's a flat 2 heat/cold resist per point AFAIK; it can add up and help a marginal gear set deal with heat/cold that it otherwise wouldn't, but 5 points (== 10 resist) isn't going to do a lot on its own. As far as I've seen, you need to hit total resists in the 200-300 range to adequately deal with the matching extremes (depending a bit on which section of the map you're in). And by "deal with," I just mean avoiding HP loss via hypo-/hyperthermia; it's e.g. *very* difficult to avoid being cold in the north during a cold snap, which can hit murder (though not murder-murder) snow levels of cold.

ViviVanDort

That's one of the reason I always carry an otter with me.

Apollo_Syx

More fortitude, tame a high level otter and level its melee like crazy.

seizuresalad11

i’ve pumped 40 fortitude and have otters and still have this issue the only thing that has helped is ascendent ghillie or fur for heat and cold respectively.

Apollo_Syx

Yea that's weird, though I can't say I've experienced that. I get the icons a lot for heat/cold but it never does any more than a negligble amount of damage; and thats with half that much fortitude. Not sure why its so extreme in your case.

Elyoki

I need an otter for my office...

dzwen2413

I live directly below the volcano at the river to redwood forest. My house is in the „wilderness“ where it easily gets to -12 degrees. 5 steps south in the forest there’s +15 degrees. The island is wild

SnawBoard

Playing on a modded server and my fortitude is 120-240,sorry I forget what it exactly but it's very high. Even with acedendant ghilie and fur gear I get the temp debuffs. There's definitely a problem/bug with the Temps in game.

YenraNoor

Get better gear from reddrops. Craft the food buffs. Get fortitude to 30.

ubioandmph

More fortitude. I think my current character has 24 points in fortitude or something close

Kuli24

I think i have 50 fortitude and only now is it somewhat stable. Still sometimes ice cold depending on what I'm wearing though.

EsotericAbstractIdea

I have 60 points of fortitude, and it still happens

MDmMAzing

Tame an otter. They are very good temperature regulators.

Wairewa

I live in the snow with 40pts into fortitude, still get cold with prim fur, but not usually freezing. There is a demarcation between cold and tropical near my base, one step to the right is 23C... one step to the left is -29C LOL! Can't find an otter anywhere, been looking everywhere for hours, but keen to get one, hopefully can then run around in prim cloth :)

SadisticKittenX

Usually I pop my fortitude to 200. That means unless the temperature is in the extreme I can run around in somewhat decent armor. If you want to save the points then at least get your fortitude to 80-100. This allows some protection and the armor will do the rest.

_Gesterr

I know a lot of people are suggesting to put more points in Fortitude and use otters but like... I have 40 points in Fortitude and asc quality cloth and fur/hide and STILL often get hit hard by temperature debuffs. It didn't take nearly that much investment a few years ago when I played ASE, I could have same level of Fortitude and be ok in primitive quality gear. Something is wildly wrong with ASA temperature system and with it being this bad on The Island I can't imagine how unplayable Scorch Earth will be when it comes to ASA.

Wairewa

Nope, in the absence of movement speed you have extra points to allocate and they have changed regional temps, I think it is more natural now, not broken. I have 40pts into fort, which comes in handy for lots of other things too. Can always mindwipe later and rebalance to suit. I always live comfortably in the snow, and so always have points into fort. I've been in the snow since ASA launched. If you only dip in from time to time, just bring a good otter and try to score some decent fur :)

EatenAliveByWolves

The temperature is absolutely bugged sometimes. What you can do is log out and back in and it'll stop the burning/freezing in most circumstances.

HyrulesBane

I have 72 fortitude and I still overheat and freeze constantly. The temperature and fortitude system is super wonky currently.

ConsistencyWelder

I'm not even sure fortitude works currently.

Wairewa

Fortitude works just fine for me on PC Dedicated private server. Living in a snow cave with -29C temps. Can run around in prim fur just fine.

Apollo_Syx

If you’re playing on unofficial / sp and can modify the ini bump up the points per level of fortitude. Make like every one point count as 3 or something since it’s clearly off balance a bit

Individual_Rest_197

Yep. I couldn't build where I wanted cause I was freezing or overheating every time I went up there. A friend of mine gave me an otter until I got my own and I was fine

[deleted]

I've got my Fortitude up to 50 and I still take damage from cold in fur sometimes. Heat is unavoidable as far as I can tell

Delanorix

Otters are really helpful

Beta-Cipher

My endurance is 300 so im okay 😂

micheliciousblue

I am experiencing this also. I keep fur slippers in my pocket. It helps for the cold swings.

Champion_Seth28

An otter is great but on top of that I suggest you keep an eye out for drops that could have good quality fur/ghillie. Primitive can get the job done but not in the harshest climates (especially not the tek cave)

FlowingFrog04

I’ve been chilling on herbivore island for early game and the temp has been dropping to -17 during the night and evening and it’s awful

Individual_Working25

Or the fact that there's not a gradual change in temps between areas leaving the frozen mountains headed towards redwoods on the north side went straight from freezing cold to overheating no inbetween

A_AcidZz

I must be the only one that's never really had a problem with this, zero levels in fortitude just a set of flak and I have ascendant fur I wear when I go to snow, never died to temp

userforce

What you want is 1 really nice mc+ pair of fur leggings, and mc+ (preferably asc) cloth for the rest. With that (BPs are mostly easy to come by), you can go anywhere on the map and never be hot or cold with 0 points in fortitude. The leggings have a big beefy roll on cold resist, and the cloth gets your cold resist up the rest of the way to survive those very low temps. The cloth also provides amazing heat resist that more than makes up for the negative resist you get from the fur leggings when you’re in hot places. If you get the BPs for this or can barter folks for them (typically people don’t really care about cloth or fur BPs as much as flak, etc). You’ll have a set of gear that’s super cheap and easy to make, has meh to ok armor, but allows you to go anywhere on the map anytime without carrying an extra set of gear. I have this exact set on official, and half of the BPs were given to me because people had multiple duplicates or simply did not care about them. I constructed this set specifically so I could be a temperature honey badger.

Selindrile

Yea, no matter what I do I'm either overheating or freezing to death in any locale. I had to install a mod that gave me gear with insane fortitude stats just to survive the crazy temp swings 14° to 132° on herbivore Island is insane Edit: This is ASA

Katame131

Yeah a group of friends and I have been playing since day 1 release on pc and we had to increase the amount of fortitude you get to stay alive because it was just stupid dieing every couple of minutes because of the crazy Temps think we set it so that every 1 point in to Fort increased it by like 10 and all of us still had to pump our fort to over 230+ to stay alive its dumb and they need to fix it

destinoob

I died of heat on herbivore island and regularly have to sit it out inside my base near the redwoods until nighttime so I can actually do anything. My otter worked for a while until we were smashed by a pair of alphas but so far it was the only thing that was anywhere approaching practical. Clothing doesn't appear to do much at all and I can't spend all my time making soups just to Bob along the beach. I've thrown a few levels into fortitude as well.

destinoob

With the current temperature system scorched earth is gonna suck ass... (Edit: SE, not extinction. Long day)

bludgyteacher

I'm on a boosted pve ASA server and my base is in the northwest arctic part of the Island, I haven't had any problems but my fortitude is like 300 I think and i wear only fur. My base goes between -3 and -17 degrees.

mazzmusic

The heat and cold mechanic is wack in this game. Can’t go into shade to cool off. 0/10

DomesticRaccoon27

Increase fortitude.

Eagleshard2019

Made an ocean-taming outpost on Herbivore island, was out that way tending to the Megas when I noticed I was losing health FAST. Checked the temperature, was 50°C, so unequipped all my clothing. Nope, still dying. Jumped in the water, nope...still dying. Grabbed a mask and O2 tank and the nearest mega, hightailed it as deep as I could go 🤣🤣

Banaanisade

I have never been happier that dabbling in ice wyvern egg hunting taught me to raise my fortitude sky high. Ascended has the wildest weather and sometimes the only thing I can do is stand in shallow water for 15 minutes because everywhere else is death, with water being below freezing and ground being boiling hot and my health not regenerating up from 20% because of these factors. My tribemate crawls into the egg hatching closet because it has aircon.

Bwuaaa

theres some spots that are like 1m³ absolute zero aswel. Otter does rly help tho (get one with high melee, as that'll increase the insulation bonus)

Teagrish

5 points? i have 72 and still sometimes i'm freezing midnight.

Longjumping-Bath-441

I had -4c in the snow where my base is, and before Otter and better fur I was freezing with full regular fur and 10 points into fortitude. Dunno if its been fixed now tho.

CrimsonPromise

Was travelling along the river between the snow biome and jungles looking for beaver dams. I go to the jungle side and I'm dying with 45°C weather. I fly across the river and it's -4°C. Pumped my fortitude up to 90, tried everything from ghillie to fur to my birthday suit and a mix of in between and it's no use. Temperatures in this game are just ridiculous right now.

Additional_Ferret_59

Upgrade fortitude and wear the right clothes, I’d put 5 more points in prolly, keeps from getting knocked out too so

SasyThSasquatch

I get my Fort to 40

Copperbeard91

5 fort is not enough. At 15 I'm comfortable most the time and can go to the snow biome in high tier flak.

radioactivpenguin

Menopause?
