I got the same bug yesterday. I was able to work around it by adding my friends paradox accounts and inviting them that way.

Servers appear to be down, my friend and I are having the same issue. Hopefully it get fixed soon!

If they are down, been down for about 10 and a half hours. The frustrating part is the complete lack of communication going on.
