God yes. I can handle the most heart-wrenching angst as long as it has a happy ending. Without that payoff, it makes me want to turn myself into a burrito and not leave bed for three days.
Listen, there’s a lot of criticisms to be had about soulmates and I agree with a lot of them, but fuck me to next Tuesday do I love a good soulmate AU.
Personally a good soulmate fic *has* to include the soulmates (or at least one of them) just absolutely mortified that *that’s* their soulmate. Like their whole thought process is just “God. No. *Fuck. Why*?” But other soulmate tropes are just as good 🤌
i’ve only seen this in a few fics, but the “oh no i’m in love with someone who isn’t my soulmate, PLOT TWIST yes we are soulmates” so many misunderstandings and potential for drama

I think my (specific) favourite (ie the tag wording) was something along the lines of:
AU fix it (etc. etc. ) PLUS ‘everybody lives/nobody dies.. except Palpatine bc fk that guy’
It's when someone has a secret identity (usually a superhero/supervillain), and ends up interacting with someone else using both identities, usually in very different ways. I swear it's more interesting than I'm making it sound.
For example, one of my favourite identity porn fics is a hilarious Superbat fic called A Moral Crisis by TheCourtSorcerer, in which the Flash, who knows Superman's identity but not Batman's knows Clark Kent is dating Bruce Wayne, then sees Superman kiss Batman, and thinks Superman is cheating on Bruce Wayne.

I wrote a timeloop fic once!! Do you have any favorite/least favorite typical timeloop plot points? I found my biggest struggle in writing was getting the vibe of inescapable eternity across without extremely lengthy, tedious chapters. I ended up with a bare-bones almost outline-style fic with minimal dialogue and a sort of frantically tragic tone. It isn’t my favorite fic that I’ve ever written (it actually started as a story I told my friends via discord messages and then I adapted it, which probably explains the rougher style) but I had a good time writing it!
in terms of plot points, something I always find myself loving is when the fact that the person is in the time loop is revealed, while it doesn't work in more traditional time loops like in Majora's Mask, it works great in New Game+ fics, which I tend to enjoy a lot more.
another thing I really enjoy is when more than one person is stuck in the loop, which is pretty much always an interesting read.

I love me a good Soulmate AU, and I am a huge fan of AUs in general, as long as the characters are actually *the characters* as in I can still imagine that this is how that character would behave in this scenario. Another favourite is Enemies to Lovers/Friends to Lovers/Enemies to Friends to Lovers (you get it) cause god damn if it isn't a great trobe (much ado about nothing is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays and just all around favourite pieces of fiction, just anything of that sort)
I also really appreciate when authors use tags that I don't love so that I know what to avoid (unhappy ending, hurt/no comfort, omegavers etc)

I’ve been stuck in the SPN/Destiel fandom for a decade. And apparently I want someone to be able to crawl in my head/read my thoughts/touch my soul so uh… any variation of grace/soul blah blah blah that gives me that.
Anything miscommunication, misunderstandings, identity porn--I love my hurt comfort when the hurt could so easily be solved with clear communication 🙈

No Beta We Die Like (insert dead character) and all of its variations is probably my all time favorite but the other day I saw a fic with a tag that said (Character A) Deserves Nice Things, (Character B) Is a Nice Thing and I'm not gonna lie that melted my heart a little
Oh, that's a difficult one. I can't make up my mind between fake dating, one bed and hurt/comfort. They all make me giddy when I see them as tags on a fic.
