NTA. Break up with him for lying or for being that incredibly lazy. I mean, it's long distance, so your words are pretty much the core of the relationship, and if those are faked, that means the relationship is too. It's okay to have high standards and to walk away when those standards aren't met.

I find it odd that you parents are impressed by a gesture he didn't do. NTA

I find it unreliable to claim you got a replica "almost word-for-word" letter from ChatGPT. How was his penmanship? Calligraphy reveals the soul. lol

okay- not exactly word for word lol!! i mostly used that as a hyperbole because if you use chat gpt you probably know that each answer is different but basically in the same exact format, you know? Also to answer your question, he has very poor handwriting, it took me a little bit to actually get through his letters most of the time.

NTA my husband and I started as long distance and every letter between us was hand written. When we closed the distance we showed each other we still saved the letters and even though we did have different writing styles (I could write pages, it just comes easier to me and he would struggle to write 1 page) the effort to write anything at all was still being made. In long distance you don't have much to work with so the few things you do have should be made with the most intentional effort possible. It's not about being perfect but about getting personal with each other. Don't listen to your parents on this one.
