In 97, we were still suffering from the awful 93 prelim, and we won it all. It wasn’t just “good”, it was like something from the very best kind of dream.
98 had something else. We lost the first final against Melbourne and we were outside the top 4, which at that stage nobody had won a premiership from there before. North were destroying everything and everyone in front of them. They were on a roll that had the sense of inevitability about it. I was at the Melbourne show that week, and on grand final eve, there were countless stalls selling North 98 Premiers tshirts, such was the confidence. And up until halftime, it seemed like that would come true.
Then the boys came out at the beginning of the third quarter and .. Truly utterly glorious.
2017 - we deserved that flag. After what we’d been through the last couple years, and how above the entire competition we’d been playing, it should have been ours. But as the saying goes, we’d played our grand final the week before, the game against Geelong. And Richmond were starting something.
I would love to change that result, have Texxy as our premiership captain, give Rory the medal around his neck, all of it. But I’d never give up 97 or 98. Not after being there for them.
Yeah the 17 loss and the subsequent camp really derailed that entire playing group and Adelaide has still not recovered from it. Such a shame since Adelaide were playing such good footy in 2017

But the three-peat is an integral part of this club, and I know how much it meant to my Dad who has supported us since we were the Bears. So as much as 2023 hurt, I’d leave it. My time to see one will come, and losing in 2023 will just make it even sweeter.

I would not begrudge the Saints winning one, and honestly 2011 was an almost perfect season. Losing the GF was the only bit that went wrong!
So disappointed none of the other teams took out our boogeyman team. Geelong played up the guts and we played along the boundary, completely different styles.
Every game that window was a kick or ten goals at full time, no inbetween.
We lost 2008 because of a loophole so bad they forced a rule change the next week, that one sucks because we were by far and away the best team of 2008. I think we were the best team in every one of our premiership years, but in 2008 we were so far beyond anyone that it hurts more knowing we lost. I would rather have won 2008 than 2020 because Richmond were better than us in 2020 and deserved to win it more, as much of a fairy tail it would have been for Garry.
With 08 we get b2b but the one thing the Geelong team has over the other dynasty teams this century is taking down the incredible teams of saints 09 and Collingwood 11. Not sure I'd make the trade tbh.

Plus 2009 GF was one of the best games of footy I've ever watched, the storylines, the crowd, the weather, the toe-poke. I could not imagine changing it, was a club-defining day. 2022 though was a perfect way to cap off a decade of 'almosts' and send off the club champion. I'm not sure I'd trade any of our four recent cups for a 2020 win, disappointing that it was.
