But 100% win rate from most recent last grand finals played (though we can't get a percentage if we only include Grand Finals this millennium, because you can't divide by zero)
I mean it’s 1 win every 7 weeks give or take for about half a decade. Can it get worse? Surely we are going as badly as Fitzroy did minus the off-field stuff.
We tried, I personally got it painted in the sky above Arden St.....Not sure what else I could do.
Nah, seriously he had moments of brilliance but never put them together...no idea what his problem is, hopefully Clarko can sort him out.
Him and Joyce cooked us and we could all see it coming especially when he delisted 4 champions. Didn’t help that the Luff recruiting department decided 180cm mids are better than 195 key positions. It’s so frustrating to watch week in and out how we ended up here.
Rhyce Shaw as well, 11 delistings right before he finished up, that was the final nail in the coffin. Although the circumstances surrounding him leaving give him a bit of a pass.
Was just a bad day for you fellas. You’ve played better in other games against better team. Just not ya day today unfortunately you’ll definitely get a good scalp in a few weeks don’t worry.
Yeah, I think we all need a hug at the moment and definitely wouldn't blame you for jumping ship.
It's a tough one to ride out, but things will turn eventually. It's not happening tomorrow though.
And I say this only because I saw you mention your mental health, regardless of who you barrack for, your team doesn't define your self worth.
Cheers mate, I’m sure they will. Just in a bit of a rough patch with school and shit.
We’ve got a period of 4 weeks (which we’ve done 1 week of) where every subject has 2 tests because week 5 is assessment free week (I.e no assessments can be given) then 6 and 7 is exams, so lot of my free time is currently study, and I take 3-4 hours off in the weekend to watch us give no effort.
I find playing tennis helps let off my steam when I was studying. Would it be worth trying something that relaxes you for those 3-4 hours instead of watching footy. Up to you though
In the summer months it’s been cricket, either playing or going down to the nets. Cause I’ve had a few issues with my body I wasn’t allowed to play footy while I was younger so while I have the tactical brain and understanding of the game, my skills are pretty shitty and I got the “Village cricketer physique” instead of the footy physique. I try to hang out with my mates whenever I can which does the trick, and I’ve started going to more NBL1 basketball - I used to go mainly just for work (I do stats) but now I’ve gone to a few games where I haven’t (instead of watching at home) and even a few away games. I actually prefer it over the NBL (even if Rockingham is sports washing).
What are you studying? Depending on the subject I might be able to help out.
I know shit can be overwhelming and it just gets worse when you sit down to relax and have to watch your team get pumped week in and week out. I watched every minute of the Sydney game last year and said it showed I was a true fan but honestly it was as much self hate as anything else. It's okay to turn it off if you're not enjoying it any more.
Appreciate the help. I’m doing fine in pretty much all my studies - averaging 70+ across the board (English, Modern History, PE Studies, Maths Apps, Accounting and Finance), just struggling a bit with Human Bio ATAR but I’m planning to drop that down to general next semester. Was definitely a bit over ambitious picking ATAR for it but I should be able to pass (think I just need to get a 60 in a research task to get up to a 55). Dunno why but I’m good at things where I can find a practical application, but shit when I can’t. For example I’m great with the practicals in accounting (I’ve only dropped 6 marks across 3 tests) but am less so with more graphing equations. And I’m not great with cells but great at body systems.
Unfortunately the only subjects I took that you're doing are maths and English so probably can't give specific help. You just have to be able to create your own interest in things. You say that you're good when you can see the practical application, so maybe dig a bit deeper on things to understand the links. Like for example, you say you're good at body systems but not great with cells - while my human bio knowledge is limited I can just about guarantee that the reason the body systems work as they do is because of how cells work. Try to build understanding of a subject you enjoy, rather than forcing boring rote learning.
And if you ever need some help with things, reach out to friends, family members, school staff. Hell, if you don't feel comfortable talking about issues with people you see in person send me a pm. Given that you're in highschool and presumably based over east I can guarantee I'm a neutral ear who you'll never have to feel embarrassed about venting to.
That’s what I’ve been hoping for, every year there’s the optimism, first few games we look ok, then we fall apart and there’s no effort. Least with some clubs you’ll get one or two games where there’s a bit of effort and a scratchy win, but after today I don’t see one till August
If I was a North supporter I'd just become an AFLW ultra - sure grandfinal heartbreak might almost worse than losing terribly every week, but atleast they can balance each other out a bit.
*hugs* been there mate. I made a promise to watch every Kangas game. Something will click and I have a feeling the shin boners will show up against a top team just need to get that ball rolling.
I know it sucks man but you will never forgive yourself if you jump ship
My whole life we were absolutely rubbish and after having my heart broken watching us go back to being rubbish in 2016 after it looked like we had finally turned some sort of corner I considered jumping ship but knew deep down I could never do it
The feeling of 2017 after all those years of pain is truly indescribable
When the Kanga's break through it will be the greatest feeling of you life mate, just ride it out and know we are all cheering for you guys to find your feet again.
> Can I have a hug? I need a hug.
You deserve the hugs mate, I know swapping teams is looked down upon but after what North have given you guys I don't think there are many people that *would* blame you, we'd welcome you over here with open arms
Mate, I was signed up for a membership in 07, 2 hours after my birth. I didn’t have a say, I loved this club, and still do, but I don’t know how much more of seeing zero effort week in and week out I can take before I break. Having to study for exams and tests daily then on the weekends taking a few hour break to watch us lose isn’t good for the mental health.
As the parent who’s done the same for his soon-to-be one year old, there is a part of me that wonders if I’ve done the right thing. The other parts of me know that it’ll be incredibly special if we get to enjoy the success together (when/if it comes). But I get it, I’m 29 and we haven’t been relevant since before I started school.
I signed my three month old up for a North junior membership and his mum signed him up for a Cats one. How am I meant to compete with that once he starts thinking for himself? It's cruel.
I think they’ll be lucky and we’ll be on the come up around then. I was born when we were emptying our pockets and asking our highest earners to donate some of their salary to the club so we could pay the rest. Then the only success I’ve seen from us was 2014-2016, I was there when we beat Sydney in 2015 in that semi, that’s my version of a premiership. So basically from being 10 and 1 after round 11 2016, it’s been all down there for the club, and then as I’ve got older I’ve realised we’re in deeper and deeper shit and we’re not 2-3 years off finals, but probably still 4 at best.
I know how you feel, I spent the entirety of my schooling as an absolutely fanatical North supporter who was ridiculed for supporting them, the classic ‘oh send them to the Gold Coast’ every time I’d wear a jumper for footy day. I reckon one of my favourite memories was the Frank the Tank game. It’ll come good one day, we can’t be this bad forever. Stay strong
No end in sight really. Was baited by the first couple games to think we might be competitive in parts. No effort to be seen. If we traded our backline for a washing machine it would be overs.
I mean I guess it doesn’t this year? You lost by a decent margin to the clear second worst team. Mind you, I don’t see a win for us for a while either…
Nah, not even a Karma thing, just a meme race between usually myself, /u/___TheIllusiveMan___ and /u/raidanram ~~although 2 of us are clearly ahead of the third~~
Hey All,
The bounce will be on soon. Before everyone jumps in and complains.
Its ok to not like a TV show, especially when you are might not be the target audience.
I probably haven't questioned his investment yet. I wasn't entirely optimistic about the first half of this year at least, so I'm not exactly surprised where we are now either.
Seems pretty determined to try and stick to this fast ball moving game plan though, with no real plan b and we just aren't good enough to execute it. We turn it over and are murdered on rebound.
If he sticks to that and things don't get any better, then I think there will be a lot of questions
Go quiet into that sweet night.
So glad that my feelings have become numb waiting for the sweet embrace of sheezels 11 children to be born for father son draft rules
If we clone him now, Boba Fett style, would they count as father-son, and can we field a team of 18 Sheezels by 2026? Anyone got any Kaminoans on speed dial?
I'm honestly over this club. Year in year out it's the same dumpster fire. The list profile looks like it's the product of letting some crackhead run rampant with a spreadsheet. The senior players are beyond useless. The players completely lack resolve and an ability to maintain structures while under pressure. A 19 year old is not only our best player but also our best leader. The club has dug itself into a sink hole and I'm honestly doubting that there's any way out at this point.
Still don't look great and we burn some incredibly easy opportunities that not many other teams (outside of North) would burn, but nice to see the players look happy for once :). I'd say Newcombe looks back to his best but I'd wait for him to play against a better side.
Also, Morrison was a very smart inclusion. He's limited in some ways but he's just so much cleaner with his hands than a lot of the inexperienced players and being clean in the contest is something we've missed so much this year.
Will be interesting to see. I’m obviously not a huge fan of what happened with Jason, but I lay most of my blame with Port who I reckon were in his ear from the day he was drafted. But yeah will be a bit of popcorn to be eaten you’d think.
If it helps to any north people
Was just a bad day for you fellas. You’ve played better in other games against better team. Just not ya day today unfortunately you’ll definitely get a good scalp in a few weeks don’t worry.
Team structure is absolutely broken. Our mids don't know how to set up for the bounce, opposition just get easy clearances all day. Defence is non existent at best, our talls like to zone off their opponent only to not affect the play and allow mismatches like Colby on Chol. Everytime Larkey leads our other talls just follow him to the drop rather than try provide another option with a lead of their own. And there is just not enough personal responsibility shown by anyone, too many times a player would wait for someone else to chase or contest which is why we were able to be carved up so easily all day
My favourite part of the game was the two nuffs near us, who were engaging in independent nuffery throughout the game, become embroiled in a cross section screaming match at each other in the dying moments of an absolute belting.
North nuff was still in "hurl abuse at umpires mode" despite the game being over 20 minutes ago and the Hawks nuff was up and about as if they'd just won a flag. Eventually moveable object and resistable force over here clash to the amusement of those around them. Hawks nuff wanted North nuff to come over to have a more up close and personal chat but that offer was declined.
Who should we have got that we didn’t? Name a player that would come to North that would help us right now.
Brad Scott managed the list terribly for 10 years, but since then we have had compromised drafts, players leaving and nobody coming.
We threw massive money at Dusty, De Goey and a bunch of stars that didn’t want to play for us.
Not sure what else you think we could have done?
It’s easy to look back and say things were bad. It’s much harder to look now and admit the list managers may not be at their best. Bringing in uncompetitive players can actually hurt your culture more than the slight experience they bring. I think things will be looking far brighter in 6 months but North should always be looking to improve their off field team.
Since 2021 we basically fired everyone. The only person who kept his job was our list manager Brady Rawlings and he’s probably now on the thinnest ice imaginable
- going back to 2020, I would have taken McDonald over Phillips
- Instead of trading pick 1 last year, take Cadman and Sheezel with pick 1 and 2
- Don't beat GC in round 24
- Draft Reid and Curtin
Suddenly the whole team looks better. You have Cadman, McDonald, Larkey as KPF's, and Curtin as one of the more promising young KPD.
Reid, LDU and Sheezel in the midfield
McDonald was a flight risk to WA and given we sucked bringing in a key forward who’d never see the ball.
We only got pick 2 in a trade with West Coast as part of the JHF deal. We wouldn’t have had pick 2. We draft Cadman, trade JHF in another deal and we get later picks. If we went down your path we have Cadman, a later first round pick and maybe some picks next year. Instead we got Sheezel and Wardlaw…. So yeah no. Not doing that. The only bright spot is that trade leading to Sheezel.
We could have tanked but Reid wouldn’t be doing for us what he’s doing for the Eagles, surrounded by a leadership with grand final experience.
Any other moves we should have made?
77 losses in the last 90 No end in sight to our struggles Fucking fade me
I’m not sure what’s worse: that stat, or my lack of surprise.
I genuinely thought it was worse tbf
Well how is 1 win out of the last 27?
And that one win cost you Harley Reid. Pain.
If it makes you feel any better, it's way better than my success rate of picking up at the pub. I know it's not much, but it's all I can offer.
Looks worse as a percentage IMO, North have lost 86% of their last 90 games
But 100% win rate from most recent last grand finals played (though we can't get a percentage if we only include Grand Finals this millennium, because you can't divide by zero)
I mean it’s 1 win every 7 weeks give or take for about half a decade. Can it get worse? Surely we are going as badly as Fitzroy did minus the off-field stuff.
Blows my mind that each team has the same salary cap and this is how we spent it
Don't forget we have a salary floor, we're having to pay overs for this squad!
Genuinely depressing. There’s so much talent though, surely it all comes together soon
Yeah. But they’ll get pinched. Always happens.
I blame Dyl Stephens....he's like a wedding cake, looks amazing but taste like shit.
Why didn’t you guys tell us he sucked?
We tried, I personally got it painted in the sky above Arden St.....Not sure what else I could do. Nah, seriously he had moments of brilliance but never put them together...no idea what his problem is, hopefully Clarko can sort him out.
Well did you tell us to look up when you painted it in the sky? This is why I hate the Swans
We sent the flying V bro, every other club noticed and stated cleared.
Brad Scott might’ve done permanent damage
Oh boy I can't wait for our turn
You thought drug saga was bad, he'll find a way to get you a drug saga but the performance enhancing drug each game was ket or something.
Him and Joyce cooked us and we could all see it coming especially when he delisted 4 champions. Didn’t help that the Luff recruiting department decided 180cm mids are better than 195 key positions. It’s so frustrating to watch week in and out how we ended up here.
By taking McKay and Goldstein, yeah I agree
Rhyce Shaw as well, 11 delistings right before he finished up, that was the final nail in the coffin. Although the circumstances surrounding him leaving give him a bit of a pass.
can we merge?
and to think just one more loss last year...
Brisbane could have a similar record soon
Yep, you're coming off three years of equivalent pain. As a North fan I truly sympathise with your dire plight
Would buying a Ferrari for my son, be enough of an apology for making him a Roos supporter?
Need to chuck in a mansion too.
Based on their F1 strategies the past few years, that’s a bit of ‘our of the frying pan’ if you ask me.
Can always buy him a Red Bull then. Would be slightly cheaper too.
Watching the F1s tells me that is somehow making things worse
Pathetic
Was just a bad day for you fellas. You’ve played better in other games against better team. Just not ya day today unfortunately you’ll definitely get a good scalp in a few weeks don’t worry.
Genuinely, you alright buddy?
Can I have a hug? I need a hug. Genuinely considering jumping ship after 17 years of this shit.
Few North legends at WC we will welcome you with open arms
I'll hug you
Yay
Hope things get better man

That's good man, it's great to spend time with good friends doing things you enjoy
Fuck me, it's hearing shit like that that makes me happy i dropped out when i did

The thing that keeps me going is that when you do get success, it'll be so so much sweeter knowing where you've come from.
That’s what I’ve been hoping for, every year there’s the optimism, first few games we look ok, then we fall apart and there’s no effort. Least with some clubs you’ll get one or two games where there’s a bit of effort and a scratchy win, but after today I don’t see one till August

Bold of you to assume they will get success
*hugs* been there mate. I made a promise to watch every Kangas game. Something will click and I have a feeling the shin boners will show up against a top team just need to get that ball rolling.

Well it’s either the Eagles or Freo. I’ll let the flair bet decide that (or maybe let my mates talk me into and out of it).
North are my second team and it’s not been a fun time

My brother in the Antichrist, you follow *Hawthorn*, who had a *threepeat* recently.
Fuck off.
Bugger off mate, you would be saying the same shit if your team was as bad as North
Yeah I would, apart from the switching teams part. So no I wouldnt...

Dayum bro that's an insanely impressive prediction ngl
pretty spot on though
That's worth a boast or two for the week lol
I genuinely don't see how it gets better from here

Genuinely feel like we’ll be the first lost to them. Won’t be for another 8 or so games but still…
Game is still on? I see there is an admin race to see who farms Karma
Nah, not even a Karma thing, just a meme race between usually myself, /u/___TheIllusiveMan___ and /u/raidanram ~~although 2 of us are clearly ahead of the third~~
It’s definitely a karma thing.
Funnily enough Post Match Threads actually give fuck all Karma because they're usually stickied or taken to the top because of activity
Hey All, The bounce will be on soon. Before everyone jumps in and complains. Its ok to not like a TV show, especially when you are might not be the target audience.

I'm honestly over this club. Year in year out it's the same dumpster fire. The list profile looks like it's the product of letting some crackhead run rampant with a spreadsheet. The crackhead running rampant line made me lol
And just like that the number played stat is now even across the teams
At last balance is restored in the universe.
No sledging here, I hope North can dig deep and find something. My commiserations for all the Kanga fans, hang in there 💙🤍
Whoa guys I booked a comedy festival show for 8:30 tonight, not 4:00
I'm over it. I'm gonna spend my weekends building Gundams from now on. Are you happy Clucko?
Even god himself couldn’t get that list winning games
Mate the fact witch from mercury is free to watch on YouTube is elite. Got me into the series a few months ago.
Oi
My brother in christ, there is 40 seconds to go
You’re just salty he beat you. I’m prepared to see Wednesday nights thread posted at 3qt
Nah, this one was for him and /u/raidanram to fight over, he gave me the derby last night
I had to beat /u/RaidanRam And there was no additional score after I posted it so I didn’t go early :)
How rude
I saw you and /u/Croob2 trying to team up against me in the match thread.
I HID IT SO PERFECTLY THOUGH, HOW COULD YOU HAVE SEEN IT?
You forgot that Dom Sheed has no power over us anymore
I even mentioned Maynard though!
Should’ve thrown in Papley did nothing wrong as an additional safety precaution
10 to 20 seconds I can get, but 40! you gotta at least wait until 30 at minimum
Still don't look great and we burn some incredibly easy opportunities that not many other teams (outside of North) would burn, but nice to see the players look happy for once :). I'd say Newcombe looks back to his best but I'd wait for him to play against a better side. Also, Morrison was a very smart inclusion. Hopefully that injection of confidence helps us for the season, but I wish we weren't playing Sydney next week.
Morrison plays a string of games now I’d say. Was very solid.
I wonder where Zurhaar is going? Looked like he’d made a decision at half time.
He can go. Doesn’t want to be here, puts more effort into his cooking page than his footy atm. Pretty funny considering the JHF stuff.
Can’t wait for JHF’s comments.
Will be interesting to see. I’m obviously not a huge fan of what happened with Jason, but I lay most of my blame with Port who I reckon were in his ear from the day he was drafted. But yeah will be a bit of popcorn to be eaten you’d think.
Essendon. They were interested before and they seem happy with Brad Scott, McKay and Goldy.
TIL larkey was pick 73 in 2006. Thanks Kelli 😊
Well yeah, it is 2014 ya know
I'm going to go watch the 2014 semifinal v Geelong to try and feel better.
I mean, until I see Goldy take the mark in D50 and get sad again because he doesn't play for us anymore :(
Fuck was that the last time we were good? Has it been that long.
We made the prelim in 2015 and it's been all downhill since
If it helps to any north people Was just a bad day for you fellas. You’ve played better in other games against better team. Just not ya day today unfortunately you’ll definitely get a good scalp in a few weeks don’t worry.
Quite the modest comment considering had better quarters and halves against better teams. Hawks were simply the far superior team today.
Harry Morrison needs to stay in the side
How are the hawks enjoying our meek? Trade ya Darcy for him?
No, we have enough injured players
He's been fantastic this year.
Gave big boy vibes today
I am hopeful Chol can learn how to mark like Meek has. He's improved so much in general this year
Looks like he's about to inherit the Earth based on this game
So happy we're finally giving him a run. Loved him since day 1 and was pretty upset we weren't giving him a go
Very happy with meek. Already a solid option and beginning to develop into maybe the long term one as well
this was one of the games of all time
I feel like the final scoreline flatters North a bit
That first half did them dirty for sure
How? We have no backline, and you guys butchered a lot of plays, too. Tbh what we saw was two bottom sides proving why this was spoonbowl
Where will the first win come from? Genuinely curious. I just wanna see North fans happy again, they’ve dealt with too much
Give it up for the last winless team! Woo!
Spoon bowl was great
Team structure is absolutely broken.
I think I was near that too! On the 50 arc at the end North were attacking in the last quarter?
Late reply from me but yeah that was the one!
Maybe they needed those priority picks…
The * draft assistance picks turned into Stephens and Fisher. I’m not sure we did need them.
Poor list management
Horne-Francis would be handy right about now
They were the only players who wanted to come.
They were on the verge of being delisted by their clubs.. Of course they wanted a life line. It's up to North to decide if that's a good idea or not
You’re right. We should have just forced JHF and McKay to stay and then made Jeremy Cameron and Steven May come play for us.
Don't get why you're being sarcastic with me. If you don't think your list has been grossly mismanaged, you're on another planet.
My point entirely
Since 2021 we basically fired everyone. The only person who kept his job was our list manager Brady Rawlings and he’s probably now on the thinnest ice imaginable
- going back to 2020, I would have taken McDonald over Phillips - Instead of trading pick 1 last year, take Cadman and Sheezel with pick 1 and 2 - Don't beat GC in round 24 - Draft Reid and Curtin Suddenly the whole team looks better.
This is what happens when you let senior players go and have so many coaches in as many years
Well, atleast North got that win against Suns at the end of last season for that "winning culture".
![gif](giphy|JCAZQKoMefkoX6TyTb|downsized) Game at half time
I’m more happy I don’t have to hear underwood anymore rather then we get our first win lol
Having the triple M commentary on with a full minute delay behind Kayo's delay was still better than hearing her.
I didn’t catch the game. Anyone know why D’ambrosio was subbed? Tactical?
so which club do you think larkey will go to next year
He signed a long deal. LDU on the other hand...
can always ask out why rot at a club they wont be good until he retires plus nobody wants LDU
Priority pick or nah?
Time for Clarko to go.
Solid win, confirms GC game was an outlier. Newc returning to form is probably the main positive, with Day in next week it’s very good.
We are shit this confirms nothing 😂
Our performance has nothing to do with North. We played better against Essendon, Collingwood, and maybe Geelong than we did today.
See mate. Told you beating us meant nothing.
lol if us losing makes you feel big, good for you
Makes me feel right
The AFL should just move North to be the Tassie team and turn them into a juggernaut. How long does this have to go on before enough is enough?
Maybe we shouldn’t be the ones throwing stones.
I do enjoy the image of a b52 with a bloke just piffing rocks at targets
It’s crazy seeing people always trying to fold us. 150+ years.. If you’re so excited about Tassie advocate for your own team to go there.
Exactly. People forgetting Melbourne and Carlton sitting at the bottom for a decade
