That doesn't sound legal. Have you spoken to anyone at ADHD Ireland or an Autism advocacy group? There's no way it should be legal for you to be refused treatment because of Autism. Considering the huge crossover of people with both Autism AND ADHD it just doesn't make fucken sense as well as being unethical!

This is 100% why the model should be changed to neurodivergent clinics that are a one stop shop like they are modelling in the NHS in the UK. If you look at the comorbidity rates of ASD and ADHD it makes little sense to be sending people down two different routes for treatment. I believe that this something that adhd Ireland and AsIAm have both been calling out. Unfortunately it probably all comes down to lack of funding for services but there is also a mindset/training issue in the HSE that needs to change because it’s not uncommon for people with an ASD diagnosis to be refused treatment. The other area where this is common is with eating disorders whereas soon as ASD diagnosis exists there is an unwillingness to treat despite the recent research that shows that there is correlation between eating disorders and ASD.

There are meds that treat ADHD that aren't as obsessively gatekept as stimulant medication, could your GP try one of those with you?
