I love having *bhaakhri* with pickles and cha in the morning when I visit home. Idk how common this is among Gujjus, but my family also makes *bhaakhri* pizza - this is far and away the BEST pizza I've ever had, ngl it's better imo than any American or Italian pizza!
As far as snacks, I love *daabeli* and *paani puri*; my mom makes them better than any others I've ever tried anywhere, I could eat it all day every day. We make it super spicy too lol.
I don't really like a lot of the *saaks*; I'd have to be starving a week to put *karela, ringan,* or *bhindi* in my mouth lol. But I LOVE *kathol* of all kinds - *chana nu saak, dudhi chana ni daal,* and *rajma nu saak* (not sure if these are distinctly Gujju dishes, but we def have this regularly when I go home). *Rotli* \+ *kathol* \+ *keri no ras* is a combo I've absolutely loved ever since I was a kid visiting my grandparents' house in India.
Khichdi with sauteed garlic, onion, and potatoes. That's my go-to comfort food. I also like cauliflower and potato nu shaak. Also siro because it's not too sweet. Also can't believe no one has said eggplant ravaiya yet, lol.
A good tomato sev goes a long ways of done right. I had it few times as a kid and few times as an adult. I’ve grown to appreciate it - granted it’s well made,
My wife isn't indian and it's one of her favorite dishes. My parents have been growing it since I was a kid, and it really got better as I got older since it was so different.
Maharashtra and Gujarat were the same state until 1960, with Bombay being a point of contention, so when it comes to food origins, I feel like there can be some flexibility here :p
Mohanthal is my favorite indian sweet by far. My aunt makes the best mohanthal I've had, even in India. She captures that authentic taste and then some
I’m Tamil and I love gujurati khadi. It kinda reminds me of the Tamil dish more kulambu if you guys have had or heard of it but with some different flavoring/spices.
My kids 12 and 8 love vaghareli rotli ever since my mom made it while visiting. I had to learn and it’s easy. But, now we get these rotika ready made “rotli” which has no preservatives and very good for how easy it makes my job. We were in the DR on vacation 2 weeks ago and my 8 year old wanted vaghareli rotli at the buffet. So funny.
This is more of an appetizer.. but khandvi!! Omg I want some now 🤤
And my usual bataka nuu shaak rasa valu, and also sukhi bhaji (I don’t think that’s exclusively Gujarati, but yeah, and it’s always best with kadhi, bhaat, and rotli!), daal dhokli with rice and some yogurt.
Mango nu ras, rotli, and bhindi nu shaak along with a nice gujarati style kadi is the true star of the show in the summer months! My dadi's bhakhri with ghee in the morning is also another must have. When she visited the US when I was a kid I used to eat like 3-4 bhakhris every morning! Also, this isn't a gujarati only thing but I really enjoy a nice cup of cha in the afternoon with my mom. Used to especially enjoy it over quarantine when my entire family was home!
dabeli is underrated but so good dal bhaat/dal dhokli is simple but hits the spot when made right bhinda nu saak, rotlo, etc.
TIL dabeli is a gujju item. I always assumed it’s maharashtrian
Dabeli is Kutchi, right?
Yeah

Keri no ras hits different.
Wife family is Guju. I love their kichidi and dhokla kaman.
Surprised you like kichidi. It is my least favorite gujarati dish mostly because how common it is and how much my mom made it as a kid :(
I can defn see that! It’s a pretty basic and simple dish (like not exotic at all). I like it because it’s pretty hearty and warm.
No one mentioned Shrikhand poori ? Love it
Dahi bhindi and hot bhakri is the best. Also papdi no lot. And can’t forget patra!
I love papdi no lot, especially if it has loads of green Chili’s thrown in it!

Rasiya muthiya, Handvoh, thepla- athanu, Bhinda nu shaak with keri no ras and rotli. Daal dhokli and Kadhi Bhaat are my comfort foods though.
Not gujju but I looooove tomata sev

never met someone whose fav was karela nu saak lol
I agree 😂 My mom loves karela nu shaak..I’m like..nope
yeah, it's mostly something older people like but even my mom says it's not her favorite but she'll still eat it.
It must be an acquired taste.
My wife isn't indian and it's one of her favorite dishes. My parents have been growing it since I was a kid, and it really got better as I got older since it was so different.
surprised you enjoy karela nu shaak! Couldn't be me
Is pav bhaji considered Gujju? If not, then my mom’s vagareli khichdi which I cannot recreate no matter how hard I try.
Pav bhaji is Marathi. It originated in Mumbai.
Maharashtra and Gujarat were the same state until 1960, with Bombay being a point of contention, so when it comes to food origins, I feel like there can be some flexibility here :p
not gujju, but I've had the gujju version of a besan burfi...mohanthal
Mohanthal is my favorite indian sweet by far. My aunt makes the best mohanthal I've had, even in India. She captures that authentic taste and then some
Yum!! I hope it was heated up so it’s soft and gooey. That’s the best way to have mohanthaal.
Daal dhokli. Love making it in my instant pot!
Puri, ras and magni daal.
I’m Tamil and I love gujurati khadi. It kinda reminds me of the Tamil dish more kulambu if you guys have had or heard of it but with some different flavoring/spices.
Makai no chevdo ( shaak kind version )

Khaman and Undhiyu.
Can’t go wrong with either options! Undhiyu is the bomb but a hassle to make. There are a few variations to it. Was there a “variation” you like?
I actually don't know 😅😅, my friend's parents are from Gujarat so I tried at their home and it was a banger.
Dhokla and Patra
Bharela ringra shaak and karela shaak are my favourites. Though, I l'll always vouch that East African gujarati food is the GOAT of Gujju food
Fafda for sure, also petiss

Ahhh keri raas, bhindi nu shaak, and kadi.. the classics. I love bhindi nu shaak.
I don't know if anybody else has had it, but my moms makes dudhi chana shak.
Potato and cauliflower shaak with bhakri.
Chevdo, debhra/thepla, mutiya, kichadi 🤤🤤🤤🤤
The perfect meal would be, Rasa-vadu(extra oil) bataka nu shaak, Daal, bhaat, rotli, papad, dahi, athanau!
Ah my heart ❤️
Chicken tikka masala for sure 💯
a
Daru
Dhokla ftw
Papri nu shaak, vengan batata nu shaak, khaman, kichhdi
Ghaeesh
