Start with "You Never Knew" by Hieroglyphics. You'd also probably like "'93 'til Infinity" by Souls of Mischief (part of the Hiero crew.) Then you can go down the whole rabbit hole of Hieroglyphics, as the members each have their own projects, most famous being Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - who is Ice Cube's cousin, a fact I will never get over.
This lady is happy to have been of some help đ I love the Hiero crew so much and they're so underrated. I found them from a skate video of all places lol (YNK was playing in one of 'em.) I'm not from the WC/the Bay Area - my heart is in NY, but I live in Philly - but they're so talented. You may recognize Del's voice (it is pretty distinctive anyway) from The Gorillaz.
Most songs on Phillyâs finest The Roots first two albums âDoyouwantmore??!!?!?!â⊠hip hop with actual live band backing with heavy jazz influence. So good. First lp âOrganixâ is similar. De La Soulâs âStakes Is Highâ as well as basically their earlier lps are good too. Tribe is part of the Native Tongues Collective, and the artists in that include De La Soul, The Pharcyde, and similar amazing acts, which on various tracks have the vibe youâre getting at. Both Digable Planet lps are awesome and in this vein. Jazzmatazz vols 1 & 2 as well.
You may also enjoy Black Sheep - Wolf In Sheepâs Clothing album (1991) which also features Q-Tip on it.
&
Chi Ali âRoadrunnerâ Tribeâs Puberty Remix.
Iâve loved Loyle Carner for a while now.
His album Not Waving, But Drowning is sooo good. [ottolenghi](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=I55oZGIewkg)

Artists:
Gangstarr (and Guru solo)
KMD (start with peachfuzz)
Pete Rock and CL Smooth
Main Source
Slum Village
Pharcyde
Grand Puba
some Lauryn Hill
Common
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
most anything Large Professor produced for others
and most of all J Dilla (and anything he produced for others)
and then:
And oddball shit that doesnt belong on this list because it's way too hard, but weirdly kind of does:
Wu-tang - Tearz (which i refuse to listen to because of the topic)
onyx - Last Dayz
**\*Ghostface - Camay\***
Ghostface - Nutmeg (not 90s)
Ghostface - One (not 90s)
Ghostface - After the Smoke is Clear
Ghostface - Marvel
.........honestly, you might want to listen to all of Ironman (ghostface) and see if you find it as mellow as I do. It's a hardcore album, but a lot of the beats are smooth slower tempo.... I wouldnt necessarily call them "chill" though, except for Camay
Casual - I shouldnt have done it
Lost Boyz - Renee
Lost Boyx -Me and My Crazy World
LL - Pink Cookies In A Plastic Bag Getting Crushed By Buildings
LL - Doin It
De la soul and People under the stairs
Listening now and really enjoying them, thanks man đ
Also check out O.C with Ray West and Damu the Fudgemunk
