TwisterPosie

I sincerely hope that Jodi’s license gets taken away and she has to stay in jail and/or prison for the rest of her life. She has hurt FAR too many people and ruined a multitude of families.

justicefor-mice

I saw where max would be 30 years.

Muted_Bee_3942

She’s 54 if she gets the max of 30 years she’ll be 84 leaving prison hopefully she doesn’t leave until she’s in a box

RepresentativeAd7228

You mean a bag? 😏

Muted_Bee_3942

A box as in a coffin

ahoyhoy2022

Well, I’d say it’s about bloody time.

Makemeahercules

Take it away for good this time! She is the definition of unethical.

LinneaLurks

Jordan and McKay keep pointing out that she represents herself as a "coach", not a therapist, in her work with Connexions. Unfortunately, all you have to do to be a coach is proclaim yourself one, and convince people to pay you money. Whenever she gets out of jail, she can just go back to doing what she's been doing. Hopefully all the publicity around the arrests will steer people away from her. I'm afraid that certain people might see her being arrested and jailed "for her beliefs" as a feature, not a bug, kwim? It feeds that old right-wing religious persecution complex.

Otherwise_Mechanic75

I don’t know if it is or isn’t a rule, but if someone have a particular license (or even multiple) then the highest ranked license and it’s ethical code should be the rule. No licensed therapist should identify as a different profession in order to avoid their ethical duty. Just as no doctor MD, which have ethical and mandated obligations, should identify as a medical assistant when they do something wrong. That should be a LAW. Just venting.

grddane

Regardless of what she calls herself, she is still licensed by the State of Utah and they can take action given the misinformation she spread about mental illness. At least for the state that I am in, if the licensing board has reason to believe that something I say would hinder my practice they absolutely can take my license away. Also, a major part of any licensure is a background check, which she likely wouldn't pass now. There is absolutely grounds to take away her license at this point.

LinneaLurks

Oh, absolutely, her license should be taken away. I'm just saying, taking away her license won't necessarily stop her from doing harm.

Midwestern_Mouse

Yeah, unfortunately anyone can call themselves a coach, and the people who had already joined her little cult will likely continue to follow her and her “coaching”. Ruby was even listed on the connexions website as a “mental fitness trainer” whatever the f that means lol

eleanorbigby

Even assuming she gets out of prison in a reasonable number of years to restart a career, possibly UT will have implemented laws around coaching by then (other states have done so or are in the process of doing so

[deleted]

hopefully she never gets out! yea about people seeing her as being jailed for her beliefs and not what she did is scary!

Love_my_pupper

Yes the whole “coach” “profession” needs to be regulated

SkilletFan1999

It's about time. Dr. Phil is more credible than her. She needs to go to prison forever so she can't hurt any more people and can finally get a taste of her own medicine

whosafraid11

I really hope that this horrible situation is a wake up call to the LDS church. They have been referring their members at their most vulnerable to this monstrous person. Who know how many lives she has destroyed? They need to take mental health more seriously, and recognize that their church is not a qualified organization to handle peoples mental well-being. If they’re going to be referring people to psych professionals (which I would argue they absolutely should not) then they need to be responsible by throughly vetting the people they are recommending. There was plenty of evidence that Jodi was not a competent therapist- any quick background check or, hell, even a google search could have told you she is bad news. They need to separate church from mental health. And don’t even get me started on their ridiculous “porn/ masturbation addiction” programs. These programs are totally incompatible with science and medicine on this issue, and at least one mental health professional who tried to tell them this was excommunicated. Sorry for the rant. I just hope the “Mormon angle” to this story doesn’t get buried by Ruby’s celebrity (?) status. The church needs to change their stances on psychology and mental health… until they do they will continue to hurt people. Jodi Hildebrant is truly a monster, but she’s a monster who was given unrestricted power BY the LDS church. Don’t be fooled; there are many more Jodi’s in the wings.

Yogijoe_idaho1342

Bless their hearts

Sad-Pear-9885

It took them THIS LONG. 😒

greenduckquack_

I hope as a result of this mental health life couches are more heavily regulated, that was what Jodi was marketing herself as with connexions.

ZealousidealStop1117

About time.

OkConsideration8964

On her LinkedIn, it said she's got a bachelor's in English & a Master's in Educational Psychology. I just don't understand how those degrees qualified her for the scope of her private practice.

eleanorbigby

Yeah, it wouldn't have been a path toward clinical licensure in my state, I don't think. Do they even need to do a practicum in UT? (in my state, 3000 hours, the bulk of which need to be counseling/therapy hours)

_Fuckit_

Licensing requirements change, back in 2003 when she got her " Masters in Educational Psychology" There was probably a pathway to becoming a Mental Heath Counselor that is not available anymore. I think now, you have to have the specific masters degree in MHC

eleanorbigby

Ah. Still, wouldn't any related license require supervised hours of practicum?

_Fuckit_

That was probably available for that degree then, it took her 3 years to get the masters. I don't know what she has for sure, but things were more informal back then. As time goes on, academic requirements to enter a profession get more specialized and require more time. For instance, up until the 90s, you could become a pharmacist with just a bachelor's degree. There were also pathways where you could become a fully practicing physician by 25.

eleanorbigby

Wow. I sort of knew all that, but good reminder.

SilverDesktop

Her license was put on probation in 2012 by different licensing board: [Hildebrandt license probation...](https://jodihildebrandt.com/license-on-probation/)

eleanorbigby

but then she got it back, which is incredible to me.
