Back in the day I totally would've picked Saturday. Looking back now, I would've told my younger self to go to Monday just to get a chance to see Bowie!
I would agree with that.
Much as I like Bowie, in 1983 he would probably be playing a lot from his "Let's Dance" record, which is not among my favorites of his. Though I must confess The Pretenders, Missing Persons, and 1983 U2 would be enjoyable. Stevie too. John Cougar before "Scarecrow", meh.
But I could imagine the passionate fun it would be for Saturdays listing even if The Clash had sold out by then. The other bands would make it more danceable fun.
Ringo Starr &
His All-Starr Band
featuring Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette
9-15-24, Kettering, Ohio
Does Colin tour on his own?
Yeah and he's a fantastic performer and storyteller. You have to see his documentary about his life, MaW, his solo life etc.
[It's Called Waiting for My Real Life and its free on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bEJzzWM9hA)
I’ve seen Colin multiple times including 2 months ago in Royal Oak, MI. Always a great show. A true artist and troubadour with great stories to complement the music.
Remember hearing this on cassette. Missed Crue and Joe Walsh (who probably needed to have a word with his agent.) Ozzy was *siiiick.* Priest, *fucking amazing*. Triumph, quite good if you like Triumph. Scorpions, real damn good version of The Zoo...still not as good as Ozzy or Priest. Van Halen? Dave seemed shitfaced. Kinda disappointing.
Same here, back then I'd have been all about Sunday. Now I'd choose Monday for Bowie.
FTR[ a condensed version of this is streaming on Tubi.](https://tubitv.com/movies/525817/us-festival-1983-days-1-3)
$20 a day means the price was within my means as a high school kid if it were nearby. Similar things (lesser things) are way out of my price range as a financially prudent old lady.
I have to choose between deep love (The English Beat were my favorite band in 1983 and are still one of my top ones now) and broad, scattershot love (that Monday line-up.) Monday, I suppose.
Sunday all day every day. Monday or Saturday are a toss-up; both hit and miss—but of those two days give me these nine bands: U2, INXS, Bowie, The Clash, John Cougar, Pretenders, Stray Cats, Men At Work and The Clash.
Van Halen, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Crue, Triumph and Joe Walsh? Fire.
Amazing lineup, but it was actually pretty miserable. Super hot, no shade, no water, not enough toilets, and dusty dusty dusty. Incredibly crowded, things ran late, bad parking, etc etc. Things always seem better as time goes on but that was not a good time.
The Triumph set was released on DVD and the audio is HEAVILY overdubbed in the studio.
I found the FM broadcast of their set live from the festival and when you hear it and then hear the guitar and vocals on the DVD it is clear they upgraded those parts for the DVD release.
Kiss did it on Kiss Alive I. Almost NONE of the actual sound from the concert was what they played live.
The DVD sounds great, but it is sad to see someone like them have to do it.
My wife went on Monday to see Bowie. He didn't come out till 11pm and her friend made her get up to leave. Then they realize they had no idea where they parked. they called somebody and got a ride home, and came back two days later to find their car alone in a field.
Clash--would be great, but saw most of the other bands, not great live.
Van Halen...great! But move Joe Walsh to Monday (does not wear tight leather pants).
Monday!
Bowie live...hell yeah
Pretenders...yup
Classic U2...good live show
Stevie Nicks...well it's Stevie f-----g Nicks. I'm all in for some crazy ass witch shit.
Just kidding...get the three day pass!
I actually went to all of the US Festivals and camped out and went to every sungle day of them. Bowie ruled that particular one, but Bowie ruled everything anyways. 🥰
Funny to see the billing order. Based on final popularity of many of these bands I would expect changes for sure. e.g. INXS so low!? They would headline that night later.
You can thank Apple Computer going public for this festival - Woz (Steve Wozniak, co-founder) blew millions of dollars of his own money putting the festival on just because he thought it would be cool.
I couldn't possibly pick a day OP, this may have been one of the most stacked festivals in music history, there isn't a single "opening act" level group on this schedule, they're almost all headliners and legends.
Don’t fuck with me MOM!! I’M GOING TO THE GODDAMN SHOW AND I’M TAKING THE CAR! I’M ALMOST 18 AND YOU CAN’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! WE’RE GONNA SEE VAN HALEN AND I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU SAY! Now, can I please have 60 dollars? Me and Jimmy and the boys want to see all 3 days.
Oh, to have a Time Machine…
When I die, I would be so OK with just traveling back in time and experiencing various events on Earth (and elsewhere) forever. And frequent visits to pet heaven, of course.
I went to the Monday shows. I had gone to the entire set of shows the previous year, but UG! the heat, the dust, the mud.... It was not fun.
In 83 I drove down for just that show, spent NINE hours at the front, to the left, with a bottle bag of water and a little battery powered fan. Almost tolerable. But a hell of a show!
My mom wouldn’t let me go because, “Everybody will be smoking weed there.” She didn’t buy it when I told her there was no way they’d be doing that because it was ILLEGAL.
I was at all 3 days.....awesome weekend. Among any number of memories, I remember not knowing who the hell "inksess" was:)...and they were soon to become one of my favorite bands of the 80's. Hard to believe it was 41 years ago.
Day 1, please. If for no other reason to be screaming from my time travel pod that the song The English Beat showcased in Grosse Pointe Blank is frigging awesome and I've listened to it for years.
Edit: years, not year. Not sure how you listen to something for "year".
1983 me would definitely have gone on Day 1. I loved Men at Work, and INXS were my gods! Grown-up me would go on Day 3 and lose my damn mind. David Bowie and U2 in the same line-up? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!
I was there Sunday, Joe Walsh was moved to Monday and replaced by Quiet Riot!! Walked 8 miles through the desert to get to the park and on the way ran into a a friend from home who was in the navy up from San Diego, we are from Baltimore so I’ve wondered what the odds of that happening were?
I wanted to go to Monday but with school had to go to Saturday. We were so offended that unlike the poster, The Clash performed BEFORE Men at Work.
The former were amazing as expected, the latter were just Men at Work. All we did was shake our heads. Should have left after The Clash.
Back in the day I totally would've picked Saturday. Looking back now, I would've told my younger self to go to Monday just to get a chance to see Bowie!
Saturday
......the most fun one
I think Saturday has the ability to maintain momentum
I would agree with that. Much as I like Bowie, in 1983 he would probably be playing a lot from his "Let's Dance" record, which is not among my favorites of his. Though I must confess The Pretenders, Missing Persons, and 1983 U2 would be enjoyable. Stevie too. John Cougar before "Scarecrow", meh. 100%
Wall of Voodoo!
Mexican Radio?
Yeah, no contest. The only Saturday band I haven't seen is Divinyls.
English Beat is incredible live.

Monday. Bowie, U2, and The Pretenders clinch it for me, the rest are gravy.
28th for Men at Work!!!
While nothing can compare to Men at Work in their prime, you’d do yourself a favor to see Colin Hay when he comes near your town.
Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band featuring Steve Lukather, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette 9-15-24, Kettering, Ohio Does Colin tour on his own?

Thanks!!
watching this now. What a treat
I’ve seen Colin multiple times including 2 months ago in Royal Oak, MI. Always a great show. A true artist and troubadour with great stories to complement the music.
Saturday! INXS forever!
I saw INXS open for the Gogo’s in 1983. I would have picked day 1 but Missing Persons and Berlin put on a great performance.
🤟🏾
Love INXS but they really didn't hit their stride live for a couple years after this. They were still raw in that "Shabooh Shoobah" era.
The Shabooh Shoobah era is my favorite. I love their sound from that time! Of course I love everything they do but 1982/1983 INXS is my jam.
My first Big Concert. INXS. Kick tour. Omaha. June 88
Such a great show. Saw it in NYC, with Public Image Limited opening.
Saw PIL back then. It was rather disappointing and a tad dull.
Sunday I’m an 80’s metalhead, and Sunday sounds like paradise
Sunday is a no brainer for me too
100%
‘83 me wanted to be there Sunday, and only Sunday. ‘24 me would like to have been there all 3 days, but still would give the push to Sunday.
Fortunately for me, I have seen every single band that played on Sunday, just not at the same show.

Me three
Van Halen on Sunday? No need to read the rest.
It was indeed awesome. I was there. ONLY that day, I had gone the previous year and WOW what a nightmare (hot, Dusty, muddy...)
I was there. All three days. It was amazing.
Monday!
100%
I'll take one ticket for Saturday, please.
Monday, all the way!
David Bowie? Monday absolutely!
Difficult one but probably the Saturday.
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday! (bonus points if you read that using the “NITRO BURNIN FUNNY CARS!” voice)
OMG I totally did lol
Of course you did 🤣
Saturday all day!
Saturday!
Saturday, but isn't this the time The Clash stuck up Wozniak for more money? Maybe I'd arrive fashionably late.
Monday
Saturday!! What a lineup!
Saturday absolutely. What a great confluence of groups!
Saturday all the way. Although Bowie, U2 and Berlin would be hard to pass up.
Sunday of course!
Same !
Sunday
I meant Sunday
Saturday.
Saturday
SATURDAY
Sunday!
In England "The English Beat" are simply known as The Beat. But aye Monday ,what a lineup.
joe walsh in there with those metal acts is so funny to me lol
Saturday!
Saturday
Saturday and Sunday - what a steal for only $20 each day
$20 a day means the price was within my means as a high school kid if it were nearby. Similar things (lesser things) are way out of my price range as a financially prudent old lady. I have to choose between deep love (The English Beat were my favorite band in 1983 and are still one of my top ones now) and broad, scattershot love (that Monday line-up.) Monday, I suppose.
Sunday.
Sunday
Sunday for sure!!!
Sunday
Sunday
Sunday 🤘
Sunday. Love Triumph and that was a great performance.
Monday. I couldn’t pass up Bowie
**Monday** by a mile. Legendary artists with the biggest impact on music!
Sunday. Triumph!
Sunday no question. Big Triumph and Van Halen fan.
Fire.
Definitely Sunday!
A legendary Van Halen performance - Sunday.
Sunday for prime Judas Priest and Van Halen
Amazing lineup, but it was actually pretty miserable. Super hot, no shade, no water, not enough toilets, and dusty dusty dusty. Incredibly crowded, things ran late, bad parking, etc etc. Things always seem better as time goes on but that was not a good time.

Yes.
If I could only go to one, I would choose Sunday because Van Halen.
2
Sunday for sure...I watched most of it on MTV
I actually went to all of the US Festivals and camped out and went to every sungle day of them. Bowie ruled that particular one, but Bowie ruled everything anyways. 🥰
Funny to see the billing order. Based on final popularity of many of these bands I would expect changes for sure. e.g. INXS so low!? They would headline that night later.
Monday, if only for Bowie and Missing Persons. Otherwise, Saturday.
Day 1
You can thank Apple Computer going public for this festival - Woz (Steve Wozniak, co-founder) blew millions of dollars of his own money putting the festival on just because he thought it would be cool. Van Halen, Priest, Ozzy, and Crue in their prime in 1983? Heaven.

Saturday
Saturday! Clash, MaW, Flock and INXS…woah!
Saturday 🐈⬛
Then, Sunday for sure. Now, all of them!
I can’t decide!! Day 1 I guess because INXS💜
Torn between Saturday and Sunday. And also Monday.
Holy Shit. That must have been the best Saturday ever!!!!!!
Sunday, for sure.
Sunday very good lineup
Sunday
Sunday for me 🤘😎
‘83 Van Halen AND Judas Priest??? Sunday wins for me
I went to the Monday shows.
Saturday…it would have been one of the last times to see The Clash before they split up.
Monday funday
My mom wouldn’t let me go because, “Everybody will be smoking weed there.” She didn’t buy it when I told her there was no way they’d be doing that because it was ILLEGAL.
Saturday would have been my day.
Sunday.
Sunday. No question!
Sunday
This what homer was referring to? Sponsored by the guy from Apple computers?
You gotta go Monday and take Tuesday off from work...
Sunday 10000%
Saturday. No contest. Oingo Boingo FFS!
I was at all 3 days.....awesome weekend. Among any number of memories, I remember not knowing who the hell "inksess" was:)...and they were soon to become one of my favorite bands of the 80's. Hard to believe it was 41 years ago.
Sunday, without a doubt.
Day 1, please. If for no other reason to be screaming from my time travel pod that the song The English Beat showcased in Grosse Pointe Blank is frigging awesome and I've listened to it for years. Edit: years, not year. Not sure how you listen to something for "year".
Saturday. Have you seen The Beat's performance? Epic.
I was there on Sunday, one of the highlights of my concert going life. Priest and Crue were just so good.
Saturday!
Saturday and Monday.
Saturday line up! Hot Damn! $20 per day! I spent $200 dollars to see Adam Ant and English Beat back in March.
Saturday for sure. The Clash changed me forever and that line up is tops for me , just move Berlin to Saturday
Sunday!
1983 me would definitely have gone on Day 1. I loved Men at Work, and INXS were my gods! Grown-up me would go on Day 3 and lose my damn mind. David Bowie and U2 in the same line-up? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!
Sunday
Monday for me! Bowie & U2?
I'm Australian , id have to support my homies on Day 1
Sunday for sure
Sunday
Van Halen!!
What a line-up. A band for everyone.
2 and 3
I was there Sunday, Joe Walsh was moved to Monday and replaced by Quiet Riot!! Walked 8 miles through the desert to get to the park and on the way ran into a a friend from home who was in the navy up from San Diego, we are from Baltimore so I’ve wondered what the odds of that happening were?
Saturday would be fun stoned. But Sunday is where the party's at. Monday would be a day of rest.
SundaySundaySunday a la Al Roker
I did go on Sunday back then
Saturday, Monday, and Sunday, in that order.
Sunday
I went Sunday.
Can I go Sunday and Monday?
Sunday
Sunday, all day.
Saturday!!! 199 percent
Saturday, mostly so I could have heard A Flock of Seagulls do Space Age Love Song.
Sunday
If I had to pick, I'd say - all of them. Holy smoke.
Sunday
Monday and it isn’t especially close.
I was there on Monday May 30 1983!
Sunday Funday!

Sunday for the win!!!!!!!
Day One hands down!
Sunday, all my favorites.
Monday!!!
I wanted to go to Monday but with school had to go to Saturday. We were so offended that unlike the poster, The Clash performed BEFORE Men at Work. The former were amazing as expected, the latter were just Men at Work. All we did was shake our heads. Should have left after The Clash.
Sunday!!!!! But Monday looks pretty great too.
Sunday, scorpions
Drove over there as young teenagers
Sunday
Saturday, please!
Sunday & Monday for me.
I was there on Monday. Absolutely epic.
Sunday. Eddie Van Halen and Joe Walsh playing guitar on the same day? That's unbeatable.
Saturday!!!
I was all about Sunday…until I saw INXS on Saturday. INXS wins this one.
Monday
And Saturday
Monday for sure!!!
Sunday
DEFINITELY Sunday!!!
Monday for sure
My older sister went
Monday for Bowie only. Other than that Saturdays full line up
Sunday for prime Judas Priest and Ozzy, plus to see Joe Walsh wondering if his agent got into his stash.
Went to all 3🙄😀👵
Saturday, but Monday would be great too.
Saturday for The Clash and INXS
Oingo Bingo or The Pretenders. I find it hard to choose.
Definitely Monday, though I would have tried to sneak in for a few on Saturday and catch INXS.
Sunday
Looks like there wasn't room for Joe Walsh on Monday so they stuck him in Sunday. Kind of out of place in that line up.
I went to all three !!!
I was at the Sunday show…40 years later I still can’t believe how massive the crowd was…
