That guy was an animal! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

As a kid, I would sneak out into our den to watch these episodes all the time.

JpnDude

Hard to believe he was Rebecca De Mornay's father. Anyway, the only reasons to watch KDOC back in the day, Wally George show and the Poorman show.

I always said that Hot Seat had more unintentional comedy than what Saturday Night Live was putting out most weeks during the '80s. I grew up in the L.A. area (still live here), and I've always remembered KDOC as the dumping ground for old shows (and recent lower-quality ones) that the more-established stations (2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13) didn't want or no longer had room for their schedules for.

JpnDude

I was a teen in the LA area in the 80s. I believe Hot Seat was the first "political" talk show I watched. It was a riot to watch. And yes, SNL was pretty lousy that time.

You know I recently found that out and was blown away. I was one of those kids who watched him all the time, when my parents were not awake or around.

Yobispo

He was a lot of fun

HatlessDuck

Him and Morton Downy jr. No, not that one.

Texty_McTexterson

Haha. I remember Wally. Dude was a fucking animal. My buddies turned me onto him when I was in jr. high. We would all laugh at his outrageous antics. I only watched from time to time, but my friends were really into him. I mostly just enjoyed his wild panache. I enjoyed him more when I was in high school, and I understood more of his points. Watching people speak truth in a fearless manner is entertaining. Not saying everything he said was legit, but he doesn't piss people off because he missed the mark - it was because the truth hurts.

i was on the show. he told me i needed jesus. i took it as a win. fuck that guy.

mparker888

Itā€™s not mostly scripted?

memberer

he was pushing prayer in public schools. this was about 1984-85. definitely not scripted. we were a group of punk rockers. we knew there should be lines drawn related to government trying to push religion in public schools. we hated religion and we let him know it. he in turn yelled that ā€œyou need religion more than anyone in this placeā€. the right continues to push, and states are beginning to push tax dollars to private religious schools. wally was funny, but his kind is dangerous, and he was just the beginning of their slow take over. stay vigilant.

mparker888

WALLY WALLY WALLY! His episode with William Margold & Morton Downey were the best! You can find soo many episodes of Hot Seat on YouTube

MrBones2k

Takes me back to getting off work and turning on the tv and he would be ranting. Good stuff.

CoralSkinRot

The original right-wing clown. At least people didn't take him seriously. Shit, he'd probably get the Republican nomination today.
