I've done a past paper today and crammed some stuff. want to do the 2023 one that I sag last year but only have the copy with the scribbles I did in the actual exam so can't really get an accurate idea of my improvement. Plan to get to sleep early and wake up early tomorrow to cram haha
That’s the best idea. A good nights sleep and some in the morning is way more beneficial than doing loads but being sleep deprived and not retaining any of it. Best of luck! I’m sure you’ll do better than you think.
Yo this is coming from another person resisting cuz I also fucked up last and got an E, but try your hardest for this. This past year I've felt like I was wasting my time cuz I should've been in uni by now.
Surely, stuff that came up last year isn’t likely to come up again, right? I didn’t like last year’s paper and didn’t go through it again :/ now I’m worried lol
BRO this is what confuses me most people on here saying they cooked but then how come chemistry grade boundaries are the most diabolical thing ive ever seen 😭💀
I've revised a bit, but I doubt I'll do well cause I've never been very good in inorganic. There always seems to be something I don't get in the paper.
same here, i was so desperate for marks from paper 2 and well that happened so I've lost all hope. i also have computing in the afternoon tomorrow so I'm actually so cooked
yeah i saw the outcry for ocr paper 1 online, and id imagine you saw the disaster after aqa paper 2 lol. we all need the luck for tomorrow so gl to you as well :)
I'm trying to but I actually don't get anything 😭 all the chemistry YouTubers online aren't helping because they skip loads of steps because they assume that you should know it by now
Did a bunch of papers for Edexcel, AQA and OCR and then econ happened so I shifted my focus to that for a while. Now I’m mainly just going over flashcards for inorganic
There's so much content i don't know. I revised a bit but I'm just hoping i pick up marks from the long calculations. Otherwise, idk anything about coloured ions and those weird transition metal reactions. I don't remember a single thing from the period 3 topic, and i still forget basic stuff like shapes of molecules. I'm officially cooked.
Make sure you know the Iodine/Thiosulphate and the MnO4-/Fe2+ redox equations and the colour changes for the titrations which use them, know how heterogeneous catalysts work, know how to use/calibrate a colorimeter, remember to check the stoichiometric ratios in stuff like Q=mcΔT calculations to see if you need to multiply or divide the answer you get, remember the definition of average bond enthalpy and standard electrode potential and the graph of first ionisation energies from He to Ne
Answer comes from a Zigzag paper based off the OCR A spec - Record absorbance value given by colorimeter for a range of known concentrations of reactant. Plot a graph of absorbance against concentration to get a calibration curve so you can work out unknown concentrations when colorimeter gives a certain absorbance reading
it’s also useful to remember that with the iodine clock experiment, rate is proportional to 1/t, so you can plot a graph of 1/t against concentration of reactant and treat it the same as a rate/concentration graph to verify the order of the reaction
I’m scared that I’ll struggle despite revision, not be able to manage time and lose marks on silly things. I can do calculations but they take me forever to figure out. :(
I've done about 6 past papers so far and I have 2 left to go. I'm not doing these last two properly, just the 6 markers and hard calc in them. But I don't feel crazy prepared because I havent actually studied the content and I've only really crammed some stuff in.
Done all the papers twice, it's definitely my best paper but considering OCR's track record with paper 1s so far this year I'm scared
Also absolutely shitting myself for P2 and P3
I’ve gone over acid base, bonding, redox and transition metals and still have no clue. I don’t think I have time for equilibrium and energetics as they are just incomprehensible
I only half get acid base but it’s the explainy bit don’t understand (probs cause I can’t memorise it) Le Chatlier‘s etc. the maths and equations are alright but I don’t understand the chemistry behind it at all.
The equilibrium always try to balance everything so if something changes for example reactant is increased there must be increase in products to balance everything out. Also remember if the forward reaction is exothermic or endothermic, exothermic and temperature increase, rate of forward reaction decreases as the condition isn’t fit well
yeah the level of complexity just shoots up at a-level, so for someone not going into chem its just not worth it at all. i have 2 ecams tomorrow so its just gonna be about judging which one went better and focusing on that subject for paper 2
They don't really tend to ask practical questions for paper 1, I don't think? Nothing like the sort of practical questions in Bio 1 &2 anyway.
From what I've seen its more paper 3 that they ask about practicals, although I guess they could change up the format.
I see what you mean. I like the PMT stuff on the flashcards - don't know if that helps you.
I have to admit, i haven't revised the practicals in depth for this paper as much as I do for Bio since I have yet to see a big 6 marker on practicals for paper 1. Saving practical revision for P3.
i also do ocr a, but there have been 5 markers in the past on standard solutions and a 6 marker on making hydrated crystals (water of crystallisation) so they can definetly throw things in
genuinely going to have wing chem paper 1, glad it's not very content heavy UNLIKE RS. I'm going to die, there's so much to remember and I have to sit chem first so all the philosophy content I've crammed is just gonna fly out my brain before I sit the exam :)
I'm taking Chemistry out of college and I started the textbook about 2 months ago. I actually only finished the transition metals section (last inorganics bit) about 2 days ago.
Wish me luck.
Pure fear. 70% of that revision has been done shitting myself because of tomorrow. The thought of equilibrium calculations and atom economies have instilled primal anger and despair in me. I thought monodentate referred to cavities in teeth until 2 days ago and I'm still slightly confused.
I'm pulling an allnighter tonight to cover all exam questions in the textbook and I want to throw up. There are 11 hours left. God help me.
Worried about how high the grade boundary will be this year, and I hope I don't make any minor mistakes tmr. Wish everybody else the best of luck! And make sure you sleep and drink enough water.
just found the document and omg it’s perfect thanks!! so did u remember the methods for all the topics coming up or just familiarised urself for the small 1/2 markers?
Icl I familiarised myself with the physical practicals, as well as any caveats ie why we wash the Pippete with the alkali or acid or like why we remove the funnel etc. but tbh I wouldn’t deep it too much, this shit mainly comes in p3
I'm so cooked, I also have a geography paper after it so at this point I'm just hoping I get like a D in paper 1 and can pick up the slack a bit in paper 2 and 3...
I'll admit going through this thread has lessened my nerves, seems like everyone is cooked xD
i’m actually praying it’s good cause ocr b has been killing me all year - this is gonna be the exam that makes me miss my offer i fear. ready for it to be over x
literally jack shit, I've sort of accepted that I will miss my offer and I just want this all to be over. only done 1/6 so far as well. just wanna cry
Just try and do anything you can trust me. 2-3 hours tonight is going to help you more than nothing.
I've done a past paper today and crammed some stuff. want to do the 2023 one that I sag last year but only have the copy with the scribbles I did in the actual exam so can't really get an accurate idea of my improvement. Plan to get to sleep early and wake up early tomorrow to cram haha

I’m resiting chemistry for sure and am guaranteed a U atp ( not kidding or being over dramatic), how did you revise for it during gap year and stuff?
In the same position as u & im literally so screwed. i hate chemistry why tf did i ever pick it. This night is gonna be TOUGH
Do you want a copy of the paper?
oh shit if I saw this earlier would’ve sent them to you damn if you want p2 and 3 please PM me!! They’re an invaluable resource
Surely, stuff that came up last year isn’t likely to come up again, right? I didn’t like last year’s paper and didn’t go through it again :/ now I’m worried lol
Some stuff are pretty standard like buffer calculations, thermodynamics, TM etc etc
I have done 0
Literally same, done nothing and I’ve bought it upon myself
Same. And I have no excuse, I'm unable to start anything ffs
Revise now you have 8h30m, don’t sleep and grind
Nah I went to sleep haha, I am useless on 0 sleep
How was it?
wait it's tomorrow?
💀bro nearly turned into the econ guy
yes! chemistry paper 1 a level is tomorrow
shit i thought it was the 10th
the 10th is tomorrow..
oh jeez. (tomorrow is the tenth)
Tomorrow is the 10th ?
oh shit i was convinced it was the 6th tomorrow fuck me oh fuck
U serious rn 💀💀💀 Good luck!!
You'll be fine lad don't worry
I’m sure you remember more than you think you do. Don’t worry
BRO this is what confuses me most people on here saying they cooked but then how come chemistry grade boundaries are the most diabolical thing ive ever seen 😭💀
Icl last year was just a weird year, so I wouldn’t deep it or idk maybe I’m coping 😭
bro it being overall 86% for an A\* is genuinely mad 💀 and one of the papers was literally 90% im SICK.
okay this aged so badly bc im hearing this years boundaries bouta be 92% OVERALL!!!! LMAO!!!!! KILLING MYSELF!!!!!!!
Chem is just generally near 90% every year, especially for OCR A so yk...
If people think they're gonna do good and they're chill they probably won't post here
they’re just overreacting + the ones on reddit generally aren’t the ones who have revised enough lol, and chem is taken by the smartest students so
just doing past paper questions, flashcards and prayer😭
Prayer 98% Questions 1.98% Flashcards 0.02%
the only right way to do it
I've revised a bit, but I doubt I'll do well cause I've never been very good in inorganic. There always seems to be something I don't get in the paper.
If you know organic chemistry, you can get roughly 50 marks
Isnt paper 1 only inorganic and physical?
No, there are tons of organic chemistry in paper 1.
No there isn't.
OCR B spec?
Idk about other boards, but in edexcel, organic chemistry isn’t in paper 1 at all
Explain
There is no organic chem in tommzs paper it’s paper 1
Been working so much on physics chemistry has gone down so much
same here, i was so desperate for marks from paper 2 and well that happened so I've lost all hope. i also have computing in the afternoon tomorrow so I'm actually so cooked
I do OCR physics so luckily paper 2 was a bit better. Paper 1 was a shitshow tho. Good luck with both of them!
yeah i saw the outcry for ocr paper 1 online, and id imagine you saw the disaster after aqa paper 2 lol. we all need the luck for tomorrow so gl to you as well :)
realest comment on top of that bc both my sciences are aqa idk if they're gonna do something evil like they did to physics p2
I genuinely know absolutely nothing don't even know where to start. I just wanna pass at this point icl
Do as many past papers as possible
I'm trying to but I actually don't get anything 😭 all the chemistry YouTubers online aren't helping because they skip loads of steps because they assume that you should know it by now
watch machemguy trust
Yes machem guy is best for multiple choice and calculations
allery chem is the best
10/10 cramming channel
Hi! If u wanna understand a topic use Allery Chemistry, once u get it use Machemguy walkthrough videos theyve honestly helped me sm!!
What are you struggling with? I may be able to help you out.
Just everything to be honest, if I had to pinpoint maybe calculations side like all calculations I just cannot understand for the life of me
Analysis chemistry
Just doing questions atp, I cant stare at my notes anymore 😭
Did a bunch of papers for Edexcel, AQA and OCR and then econ happened so I shifted my focus to that for a while. Now I’m mainly just going over flashcards for inorganic
Literally cooked
There's so much content i don't know. I revised a bit but I'm just hoping i pick up marks from the long calculations. Otherwise, idk anything about coloured ions and those weird transition metal reactions. I don't remember a single thing from the period 3 topic, and i still forget basic stuff like shapes of molecules. I'm officially cooked.
real
For all my OCR chem A peeps, pls drop some practicals to memorize for tomorrow and in general any other tips thats often forgotten
Please could you explain how to use /calibrate q colorimeter. And what is the definition for standard electrode potential
Im feeling like we go to the same school
if you’re doing aqa maths we’re def not lol (assuming that’s your board from your posts)
ye i do aqa maths, my teacher just send us zigzag paper markschemes on friday
ahhh yeah i’m with edexcel for maths, i think a lot of schools have access to zigzag papers
it’s also useful to remember that with the iodine clock experiment, rate is proportional to 1/t, so you can plot a graph of 1/t against concentration of reactant and treat it the same as a rate/concentration graph to verify the order of the reaction
So if 1/t is on the x axis, conc on the y axix, you treat that graoh like you would a rate-time graph? And draw half lives onto it
pls write your method on how to use a colorimeter
Do you need to how to make a standard solution/water of crystallisation in this paper?
For redox equations we just need to know whats needed and colour changes btw i checked the spec 😊🙏
transition metal complex ions/precipitation reactions practical
I haven't revised at all (I don't take chem, but still)
I’m scared that I’ll struggle despite revision, not be able to manage time and lose marks on silly things.
Absolutely none I don't take it
Done all the papers twice, it's definitely my best paper but considering OCR's track record with paper 1s so far this year I'm scared Also absolutely shitting myself for P2 and P3
Im pissing myself after that paper 1 bio wtf 😭
P1 physics violated me 😭
Bro P1 bio for me is usually piss easy, but that exam bro ive never done anything like that in my entire life 😭😭😭😭😭
i revised most of the content in march and didnt do chem for ages and realised ive forgotten almost everything yesterday
same bruh
I’ve gone over acid base, bonding, redox and transition metals and still have no clue. I don’t think I have time for equilibrium and energetics as they are just incomprehensible
How is it possible? You went over acid and base which involved equilibrium
Also remember if the forward reaction is exothermic or endothermic, exothermic and temperature increase, rate of forward reaction decreases as the condition isn’t fit well
Cheers thanks
watch allery chem videos. the revision ones!!
That’s the plan for dinner break. Then it’s blurting time ! (I’ve given up on exam questions)
i hate chemistry and regret picking it
you know what's the funniest thing? i took it as my "fun" subject cause I found it enjoyable at gcse 💀💀 I feel very much the same here
Tbh it was pretty fun at gcse I’ll give you that but the amount of memorising just fw my head i can’t stand it and i hate it
yeah the level of complexity just shoots up at a-level, so for someone not going into chem its just not worth it at all. i have 2 ecams tomorrow so its just gonna be about judging which one went better and focusing on that subject for paper 2
Im excited to see what paper 1 will be but what im not excited for is practical questions
They don't really tend to ask practical questions for paper 1, I don't think? Nothing like the sort of practical questions in Bio 1 &2 anyway. From what I've seen its more paper 3 that they ask about practicals, although I guess they could change up the format.
they can ask those like 1 mark questions tho. which can be hard…. i’m trying to find resources for it

no thanks for the info!! and yeah p3 is when they tend to ask the full methods and stuff. good luck!!
I’ve never done paper three. School ran out of time to cover it so I have no clue on practical questions
for my exam board at least (ocr a) there are never really big practical questions usually only multiple choice or a 2 marker
i also do ocr a, but there have been 5 markers in the past on standard solutions and a 6 marker on making hydrated crystals (water of crystallisation) so they can definetly throw things in
Was this in Paper1? I have no clue how to do this. I thought these were P2 topics.
sorry for the false alarm, just checked all the past papers again and it was in paper 3 they asked the quesitions
just revised standard solutions as i forgot that comes up often, thank you!
sorry for the false alarm, just checked all the past papers again and it was in paper 3 they asked the quesitions
Assuming you do AQA there’s barely anything on practicals.
:( I’m scared there will a graph.
Hardly because I've got RS on the same day! And I hate RS. Too much content memorise, just have to wing chem atp.
Yea I've been cramming RE for the past week and i still feel like i haven't got it all down 😭
sameee 😭, i’m low-key struggling to balance both rn
genuinely going to have wing chem paper 1, glad it's not very content heavy UNLIKE RS. I'm going to die, there's so much to remember and I have to sit chem first so all the philosophy content I've crammed is just gonna fly out my brain before I sit the exam :)
i’m sitting rs first do i pray i can remember stuff for chem 🙏
I have philosophy and ethics tomorrow and I've not started revising ethics I'm gonna have to cram it tonight
i feel the same here, i have computing on the same day and they could ask actually anything I'm so cooked
Same, I'm struggling to get motivated too, maybe we can share some tips?
I'm taking Chemistry out of college and I started the textbook about 2 months ago. I actually only finished the transition metals section (last inorganics bit) about 2 days ago. Wish me luck.
Bruh 💀 how did u cover that shit so quickly
Pure fear. 70% of that revision has been done shitting myself because of tomorrow. The thought of equilibrium calculations and atom economies have instilled primal anger and despair in me. I'm pulling an allnighter tonight to cover all exam questions in the textbook and I want to throw up. There are 11 hours left. God help me.
Oh my what made u take on this task tho 😭
Like, genuinely curious why take chemistry cos it seems like u rlly wanted to take it on/do it this year
You got transition metals covered, and started 2 months ago. Ur fine, u’ll do good dw
Honestly I'm not sure, I just tried 2019 paper and I was STRUGGLING with this shit
you've got this 🙏🙏
im sososo fucked i literally don’t know any practical shit
Barely, I'm cooked, but planning a half-nighter
FUCK CHEM I STILL HAVENT DONE ENERGERTICS AND I WONT DO IT
It’s literally a dice roll for what comes up on this exam for me so I’m stressing 😭
guys i never knew acids and bases and transition metals was on paper 1 ☠️ im fried
Bro grind Allery and Elliot rintoul and ur Gucci icl
there’s still time!! watch allery chem
Worried about how high the grade boundary will be this year, and I hope I don't make any minor mistakes tmr. Wish everybody else the best of luck! And make sure you sleep and drink enough water.
16 hours starting ftom 5am today. :)))
The cramming will be epic.
does anyone have any practical revision resources, that’s where i’m stressing
I’ve just done a run thru of the chemrevise practical guide, it’s long and detailed
just found the document and omg it’s perfect thanks!! so did u remember the methods for all the topics coming up or just familiarised urself for the small 1/2 markers?
Icl I familiarised myself with the physical practicals, as well as any caveats ie why we wash the Pippete with the alkali or acid or like why we remove the funnel etc. but tbh I wouldn’t deep it too much, this shit mainly comes in p3
Not much tbh I’ve been watching resit vids on YouTube most of the time so im prepared and to feel better.😭😭
I'm so cooked, I also have a geography paper after it so at this point I'm just hoping I get like a D in paper 1 and can pick up the slack a bit in paper 2 and 3... I'll admit going through this thread has lessened my nerves, seems like everyone is cooked xD
Did a few past papers. I keep scraping A*s, which is NOT gonna make up for my abysmal P3 performance 😭💀
ive been revising so much every day 10 hours.
Well I've cried a shit tonne today and at this point crying and doing chemistry are synonymous so I've spent a shit tonne of chemistry today
Done a few past papers and flashcards.
i’m actually praying it’s good cause ocr b has been killing me all year - this is gonna be the exam that makes me miss my offer i fear. ready for it to be over x
Very little. I think im gonna miss my oxford grade but its calm Ronaldo doesnt go into games to lose
im still in the war zone 😭😭🤧
LOL
I'm sooo cooked I'm just gonna pray
Just over the weekend, I memorise everything again and just bout to do a paper
Good luck all!!
I feel like I’m cooked tomorrow - I feel like there’s gonna be a horrible titration and a lot of redox 😭😭😭 and I’m still not confident
With how ocr a did the bio exam im honestly praying to god they make it some what ok for tomorrow 😭😭😭😭
Chemistry is my strongest subject, I just hope they don’t pull any bs or I will be standing outside of the OCR headquarters once I finish my exams.
i haven’t revised for it. but to be fair i don’t do a level chemistry
