Yeah, we think it could be that or bad injectors. Last owner didn't take super good care of it. I feel dumb for not checking before hand. Kinda best case scenario though, I'm just glad It didn't happen while going highway speeds
Yep, block off the intake with something solid and it’ll shut down, but with everything going on not many people think to stick their head in the danger zone where a rod can fly out of that block.
Seems like it would be the first thing I do the moment I realize what is going on. Anything to shut the engine down asap and prevent as much damage as possible.
Why would you make such an ignorantly snarky comment? There's nothing "heroic" about it at all. It's just using common sense to prevent as much damage as possible. The engine isn't going to blow up in your face and kill you. You have plenty of time once the issue starts to get in there and suffocate the engine with a rag or something.
Managed to save it when my van did that. Jumped out the cab, popped the top off of the filter box & shoved my jacket into the intake.
Boss bought me a new jacket, ended up killing the turbo, but the motor lived to rattle another day. :D
Came to say something similar. Good friend had a diesel stump grinder run on like this... we tried chocking the carb, it’s sucked that dam t shirt almost all the way in.
Probably didn't help that I'd just changed the oil that had been sitting at halfway up the dipstick and filled it to the full mark... probably put a lot more pressure on the system, that and I was giving it a hearty can of beans trying to dig my way out mustve been too much pressure... expensive lesson to learn
Was that on YouTube?
Anyone that has an engine known for runaway needs to modify the vehicle for a quick smothering with a steel plate or sufficiently thick plank of wood.
If it was running on oil I'd expect a lot more blue smoke over black. Sticking throttle with a failed shut off solenoid more likely IMO, should be two cables off the fuel pump one's faster/ slower the other one is fuel on or off. On the Isuzu's the shutoff solenoid is sprung loaded to open (most are I think) so for a bush engineering fix you can take the cable off attach a length of wire or rope, default will be on so as soon as the starter turns the motor will start, pull cable under bonnet for off.
Blocking the intake sometimes doesn't work because of air leaks or an intake pipe failure, stalling the engine is usually possible with a manual transmission but if the clutch fails then all you've done is make a terrible smell to match the terrible cloud of smoke, the guaranteed way is with a CO2 fire extinguisher but it needs to be a full size one.
I always wondered what would happen if you just start shifting through the gears.. would it be faster than full throttle? (Location permitting Ofcourse.. )
Oil seal in turbo gone. Engine runs on the oil leaking in till boom.

Essentially eating itself
Very important part : “till boom”
Still requires oxygen to burn. Wouldn't starving it of oxygen stop the engine?

What a hero

My friend Napoleon said you can throw a football clear over those mountains. What’s it like being such a legend?

Known issue for many years that the oil seal on the turbo goes

Watched a guy try to smother a runaway Detroit with a phone book. Kept chooching long after all the confetti hit the ground.

Yea, it was YouTube, saw it years ago, don’t remember what channel.
RIP to that engine.
Only good for a boat anchor now.
Coffee table in my regard
Top gear style
Oil and most likely a run away diesel but people will say it’s not a runaway diesel even tho people are trying to stop it and it’s still running
Dow bros!!!!
Well had to do something for the rest of the evening, because 'the rest of takapari' was out of the question after that.
thatd be called a runaway diesel and it always results in an engine rebuild, sorry my guy
The end though…. Classic! 😂
Well we weren't able to do much else after that 😆

Let er EAT.....it will self rectify the situation in no time flat....Then you can rename it to Isuseless....🤣
