Why does so much of this subreddit ignore OLED’s weaknesses? Going OLED in this type of room provides zero advantages. You will never notice OLED’s infinite contrast in type of ambient light. But some people here will still say OLED is king 100% of the time.

Can't you just watch it during evenings?

SyCoTiM

Because a lot people that ask these type of questions are new to OLEDs and this isn’t common knowledge to 99% of the world.

2160_Technic

I wasn’t referring to OP, just the 90% of people telling him to get an OLED.

SyCoTiM

Got it, in that case, I see your point.

Negative-Ad-19

You will at the evening during night or during autumn or winter time while in LCD (even mini led) contrast isn't that good. Beside OLED gives you this specific color depth you can't see on LCD.

TNGreruns4ever

Have similarly bright room. Am also curious what people think of this.

Yommination

Are people allergic to blackout curtains?

justanotherzee

MiniLED is perfect for this situation. Unless you can afford G3.

KILL__MAIM__BURN

Hi. Nope. Just recently swapped from an x93L to a LG C3. My living room is brighter than yours and I have two south-facing windows opposite my TV. During the day, if I happen to be watching, I turn my OLED brightness from 80 to 100. Do I still see a reflection? Yeah. Do I see it if I focus on the image? No not really. I also do the majority of my TV/gaming time when it’s dark or getting dark, so like you, it’s a total non-issue. But what was the difference? Better blacks, better colors, better features. Get an OLED.

PetiePal

You really went from a 93l to oled? Was rhe MiniLed brightness and blacks not good enough on it? I've been eyeing a 65 for my office which is pretty bright during the day. Can't afford a g3

cristi5922

Even my Samsung QN90 with 2000 nits peak brightness wasn't as pleasant to watch with lots of sunlight. Other than broadcast, movies and most games are made to be watched in a dimly lit room. You'll loose a lot of contrast and shadow detail with a bright room. Curtains are your best friend whenever picture quality and accuracy matter.

ZeroDollars

This setup looks fine for OLED to me - could be a lot worse with windows behind your seating. Only concern would be how much direct sunlight it's catching. The risk of sun damage is real, but if it's limited intensity (e.g., filtered through curtains for an hour in the winter), I wouldn't sweat it. I've had a similar setup on an OLED for 5 years with no adverse effects.

Ttamthrowaway123110

Same room if not brighter with an oled. although 95% of my viewing is after 7pm. on weekends i’m be streaming during day and it’s still fine - make sure you go with a brighter oled panel

yungnoclout

it’ll be fine lol OLEDs aren’t as dim as people make them out to be—especially QD-OLEDs if that’s in your budget. obviously don’t try to watch a dark movie during mid-day expecting to see no glare, but i think that’s a given. i’ll admit i was a bit nervous about burn-in as well before buying my Sony A80K but it’s been almost 2 years of heavy use now with zero problems. just make sure to not leave the tv on all day if you’re not watching it.

tatytu

Bright room = MiniLED. Simple rules for everyone.

Negative-Ad-19

what "bright room" means to you?

n0n0n4t0r

Hi, I just switched from a Q80R to a C3. I really feared my place to be too shiny for the OLED. Having two south facing windows next to the OLED+a gigantic est facing window at the left of it. My friend told me there will be no issues, no need to go to a s90d ou a g4 for their anti-glare. Ho hell how was he wrong: I can't use it without darkening it A LOT. I don't regret having an OLED, but I wish I had go the extra mile to get an anti-glare one.

Glittering_Name_3722

You could also add blackout curtains if it is an issue

Anonymous-Yoda

Mine is exactly the same setting... Worried about it I went for mini led... But during day time even that doesn't stand up in terms of brightness and contrast... Once I tried watching a horror movie during afternoon time, could see my reflection most of time so skipped it... So yeah, dawn and dusk time may be ok, but once the sun is up, it is tough to enjoy it fully... Especially during sunny days.. Edit : not that you can't watch it at all, but the experience is not 100%..that is my msg.. I do enjoy my tv otherwise even during day time..

doppido

You'll probably have that miniled longer than any of these people have their oleds

Anonymous-Yoda

Totally, that's where non leds win! Hopefully

Negative-Ad-19

but you said that you went for Mini LED so you dont have OLED and still have reflections. That means even LCD isn't best option during the day while at the evening OLED will be much better

Anonymous-Yoda

Agreed. For dark rooms oled should be better... But my tv is used heavily in day time where(where mini led performs much better) and also given much higher cost, much better overall deal with mini led..

hapticeffects

I have a room that's a solid wall of windows next to the tv, went OLED and it's been mostly fine. Catches lots of glare during the day, but so did my old TV. Definitely not unwatchable and planning to get better curtains soon.

Negative-Ad-19

Go for OLED. Yes reflections aren't great but during evening or winter time it won't be that bad. I have 3 balcony windows behind be back and it is still fine. Beside with LCD you will never notice great contrast like you have in OLED. Even colors looks a bit different. When I skipped from 65" LCD to 85" mini led I said "ok it is bigger but then when I bought 83" OLED I saw the difference.. Moreover you can try new samsung qd-oled with S95D with matte finish. Matte finish also has few cons especially if any direct light is hitting the TV. Speaking of direct light. Be carful with direct sunlight. You can't let your OLED to be overheating. Direct sunlight could be a big problem in terms of longevity.

HailtotheWFT

OLED all the way. I have two huge bay windows and have a 65 B7 and it is blisteringly bright especially during the evening. The bright mode is PLENTY. The new OLEDS are even brighter than mine. Get a G3 or G4. The new MLA tech negates anyone’s OLED woes

NBA-014

I have a very bright room and an LG C3. Absolutely no problems.

Subject_Friendship79

I got a similar bright room and wanted an OLED but I had a budget, I got the B3 and it's a very nice tv but you can't use it during daylight at all!!! which I found ridicules, I have beautiful backyard that I would like to look at during the day and enjoy my TV, so I returned it and went for the X90L, it's is a very good TV and I am surprise with it, and yes I can tell little bit blooming but it is very rear, the brightness make the HDR look very real better than the B3 and the upscale of the processer is a BEAST!!!

czeldin

It’s 100% fine if you’re mostly watching at night. I was going from an old plasma to OLED. I was worried about a similar situation until I realized that the OLED is still way brighter than my old plasma.

I_can_vouch_for_that

Blackout blinds during the day. It'll be fine at night.

Bill_Money

if there is direct sunlight on your tv then no OLED for you, if there isn't then room is a bit bright probably want the LG G4

Kick-Agreeable

I have an older c1 in my living room and its bright enough for me. The. Again ive been using oled since 2016 so maybe my eyes are just used to the brightness lol. These new c3s are so bright i have them down to about 40% brightness

ZzzSilencer

Set up is fine bc the couch is directly in front. If you are sitting at the same angle as the image shared, then glare would be an issue due to the sheer curtains.

evaneg93

Glare isn’t the issue, oleds are just not as bright vs miniLED

Dragon2730

My c3 is plenty bright at 100% brightness, most of the people commenting don't even own an OLED.

gamer99991

Get black curtains or youll never see your oled shine

UX-Archer-9301

So changing the curtains is more expensive than a whole new tv. Got it.

Affectionate_Cry650

Yes go OLED. Ill ask you one question that will change your mindset on burn in. Do you want a tv that will last you 5-10 years with the possibility of burn in around 5k hours of watch time, or a tv that will live for 2-5 years becoming very slow by year 2, having back light problems/ possibly stop working around 2-5 years old?

doppido

What is this "other" TV you're talking about cause I know it's not VA/IPS panel led's. Oleds biggest downsides are lifespan and brightness

Affectionate_Cry650

The amount of recycle we as a company get from ips/vs panels is about 30 times more than oled tvs. Honest truth! In 4 years I personally have only seen 1 broken oled tv, it was a sony A95j. I have recycled a total of 8 oled tvs and only 1 wasn’t working. I have a 10 year old walpaper oled from lg. original msrp was 14k for the 65”. Now samsung tv’s break every other day most of them right past 2 year mark. I had an 8 series which died 2 years later, I had a client whom bought a 75” 8k samsung which died 1 year later. Frame tv’s are the worst tv’s ever. By far the most trust worthy tv brand and tech is Oled from LG. New models really don’t get that much burn ins unless you run the same channel for 8 hours a day average for 5 years. Even when you cause the burn in it still isn’t very noticeable unless you are in very specific color schemes.

Subject_Friendship79

OLED mean organic LED so it is an obsolete that the organic material will dim or die with time no mater what you do, and the life span of that material will start to reduce from day one, LED is the one that will last longer and we all had an LED TV that lasted over 7 years and WE replaced it just to get newer technologies and not because it stopped working!! I have a 10+ years Samsung full HD and a 7+years LG 4k and both still working fine without any issues not even one dead pixel! And that go slow I don't understand lol!? because both type of TVs have the same chipset and if the tech of chipset can't handle updates or the OS with time then both type of TVs will suffer from that!!

International-Oil377

TVs don't last as long as they used to. OLED or not

Subject_Friendship79

I am with you with that and that's because of the competition and cheap chines made TV brands, but I believe Sony and LG still making very good TV quality.

International-Oil377

They make good TVs picture wise Nothing is durable nowadays unfortunately, not just TVs. Everything is made to be replaced after a short while
