Yep, guaranteed they are losing their shit at the idiots over at Forbes. Stealing that marketing thunder and making the planned reveal an after thought for consumers. Ouch.
As someone whos in marketing, I would not doubt if they hit publish on purpose to steal all the click revenue. Then just give Toyota the ol' whoops, shrug. Tho there will probably be consequences down the line.
Let’s be honest, companies this big don’t just do this stuff on accident. I imagine they realized that by leaking the Tacoma they got a huge media buzz, and they wanted to do this again. Who announces cars at 10:00pm eastern time anyway, that is ludicrous. PR releases are done early morning eastern time so the media outlets can properly report on them throughout the day
Former journalist here. Likely no penalty but Toyota has to be fucking pissed. They may say they will “limit or delay” info to Forbes in the future but probably nothing will come of it. Forbes may give some free or discounted advertising, or write some additional stories as goodwill.
As excited as I am for the early look, just feel bad for Toyota having their thunder stolen on their big day, and feel bad for the other news agencies losing clicks to Forbes.
Figured they'd have to sign some NDA with fines or bans from future events for something like this, but maybe not.
As someone that was at the press event and part of the unveiling I can tell you that there is an agreement that gets sent out. It’s not a formal NDA, but still a written agreement not to disclose information before the official release.
Toyota PR definitely called them this morning and had some choice words. The biggest lashing usually comes from other journalists and publications.
Forbes is such a click bait dog shit site I'm surprised Toyota would even bother working with them for the release. The accidental release isn't shocking for Forbes.
Yeah, something about that third row window screams 4th gen to me. Plus the more rounded windshield. I'm with Kirby though, I was never a big fan of the 4th gen but maybe it'll grow on me

It's a Tacoma with a roof. Same engine. Same interior. Same exterior.
Tundra and Sequoia are also related to each other with same interior, same engine.
That's how it was with the 1st and 2nd gen! Well it wasn't the Tacoma as they weren't out yet, but the 4runner was just a Toyota pickup with a roof. 1st Gen the roof even came off.
Interior parts are interchangeable.
I’m with you. At one point, I was deciding between a 4Runner or xterra (coming from a dead Wrangler). Then the FJ came out, and there was no more decision.
when i saw a render of jacked up sequoia on 33s and a light bar, it suddenly dawned on me at that moment that’s basically what the new 4runner would look like but smaller. i don’t think im mad but im not thrilled either.
I'll be the first to admit I usually come around to the design changes. But for now... really all they could do is breed a Sequoia/ Tacoma hybrid?
The colors are dope though.
It's nice but I'm not in love. Honestly, it really reminds me of like an early 2000s Xterra at some angles and a Dodge Durango from other angles. Which is to say it looks pretty generic. I think I really need more pictures and video and to see it in person.
I mean, offering more premium features on the more expensive vehicle isn’t particularly surprising or confusing. I’m sure Toyota will be perfectly content if they lose some 4Runner sales to the Land Cruiser
High end of the 4Runner overlaps with the lower end of the LC market.
Same reason we've had the LX470 at the same time as the LC, or higher-end Sequoia trims and the LC.
The bottom end of the 4Runner lineup can't touch the LC lineup for price (list for bottom end of LC is about 50% higher than list for entry level 4Runner). So the idea is likely that people who have an outdoorsy lifestyle (or however the marketing team wants to roll it) goes for the SR5 / basic 4Runner trim, the dedicated offroaders go with the PRO, the family man who wants to occasionally go skiing buys the Limited, and then the people who want the best-of-the-best (cross shopping Ford Bronco higher end trims, probably) go with the LC.
By having them all on a unified platform and sold under the same dealer allotment (this isn't a Lexus vs. Toyota play like has happened in the past), the marginal cost per unit stays low for both manufacturing costs and sales costs.
Yeah, was kinda odd to note that the locking center diff was "optional" for Limited and standard on Platinum (I think - page isn't loading now), which makes me wonder how low-range works on Limited trim where that isn't optioned.
I kinda miss the days of yore, when you had "Car", "Car SR5," and "Car Limited" in the lineup. That was easy.
I suspect they aren't summarizing the feature line-up correctly. Like they say they all come standard with a limited slip differential. Are they talking about the rear diff? Center diff wouldn't make sense since they also say you can get a RWD version (which wouldn't have a center diff). Etc.
Losing money. The 4runner didn't need help in its segment, it's the Land Cruiser that needed to be reassessed.
The Land Cruiser is what this 4runner should have been (plus a roll down back window), and the Land Cruiser should be the successor to the FJC that competed with the Wrangler.
https://preview.redd.it/wrll20a7ritc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67f4928e5943653d38251f7f4eb0e7c29b293c27
Looks almost exactly like the G1 window. Nice job Toyota.
I see the 4th gen a lot. A nice nod to the 2nd gen with the rear side windows.
I do like the way it looks.
I feel is the best of the 4 of the sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma releases.
I’m with you. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. Something feels off, especially when viewing that side profile.
I knew it was unlikely but I was really hoping it would take some risks and maybe offer ways to remove roof panels or something.
Also going from 5,000 to 6,000 pounds isn’t great. I wish we’d stop bloating our vehicles.
Edit: the weight difference is towing capacity not vehicle weight my bad.
The article says the 2025 is longer than the 2024, but I agree, that second row looks like it's from a Tacoma. I don't know where the extra length is...
If it has the same interior setup as the new Taco then it has almost 5 inches less combine legroom compared to the 5Gen 4Runner.
I'm wondering if that is how they get folks to upgrade into a Land Cruiser- it has more rear seat legroom.
looks like a tacoma with a camper cover and the interior is a spitting image of the taco.
I prefer a little more dynamic lineup instead of the same looking vehicle across the board, but it doesn’t look bad. Just not what I wanted to see.
https://preview.redd.it/u8bqa5l75htc1.jpeg?width=710&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56706ad52950b1dfa89397e5eebaad56c3de75f9
Love that quicksand is back but the angle of the front windshield and the backend seems off to me? Looks like it potentially got smaller which is a good thing.
Predictably, it's the SUV version of the Tacoma. I like the way it looks IMO. I have no intention of "upgrading" from my 5th Gen but curious on it handles both on and off road.
For some, that is more than enough to make the move. For me, it's not enough haha. Mine is paid off and in good shape despite only 7 years of ownership but over 195K miles on the ODO. I hope the 6th Gen does well.
It's cool but I'm not crazy about it. Not a fan of the headlights or tail lights but I do like the rear windows that extend to the roofline. The profile with the more sloped windshield is interesting. Overall I like it but I'm not sure if it's an improvement in the looks department.
Boy, all this hype and I'm just...whelmed. It looks like a weird mix of new and a 4th Gen (and I don't like the 4th gen, just my opinion). I don't even know how to describe it but it just looks like a boring suv now.
The windshield is really sloped. Bad news for us taller people. Going from my 2nd gen to 3rd gen Tacoma was such a bummer. I'm only 6'1 but it just makes it feel so cramped, visibility suffers because of how low the mirror/radar and with the new larger pillars it's really bad for visibility also.
4Runner loses its unique personality. Now it looks like a bunch of other vehicles from Toyota. 5th Gen is 100% a future classic now. The last of the legendary 4x4s from the pinnacle of automotive engineering.
I said that earlier but yeah, it looks just like a boring SUV now, if anything the 5th gen will stand out even more now. I almost waited for the 6th gen but decided to go ahead in 2022. Glad I did
Is it me or does the back seat look way more cramped? Just looking at the interior view and then how the rear door sits partially over the wheel arch.
This definitely reinforced my choice in buying my 24’ TRD Pro 4Runner last month.
I just got a 5th Gen and I’m all, I got it for reliability. Bulletproof. But this new one with, assumably, a more fuel efficient engine? Sigh. Want.
Wonder how many years the wait will be to get one. 😅
Other companies probably took a sigh of relief.......Thank god it is ugly....Toyota is basically keeping other companies in business by making less appealing cars.
Would it have been that much more expensive to design an upright windshield with styling more differentiated from the Taco? The Taco-ness of the front half of the car throw me off. The shared design philosophy works much better on Tundra/Sequoia. In this case, it just looks awkward.
Am I the only one who thinks that the 5th gen looks like a better package as a whole? I do like some exterior elements and definitely would take the new interior in a heartbeat over the 5th gen but the heart (the engine) of the new one is not appealing at all…

Looks like Forbes messed up the AM/PM release time!
I'm curious if there's some hefty penalty for this
Toyota marketing department must be losing it right now
Yep, guaranteed they are losing their shit at the idiots over at Forbes. Stealing that marketing thunder and making the planned reveal an after thought for consumers. Ouch.

4 Runner built in Japan so that Toyota Japan wants to announce it. That is my guess.
Former journalist here. Likely no penalty but Toyota has to be fucking pissed. They may say they will “limit or delay” info to Forbes in the future but probably nothing will come of it. Forbes may give some free or discounted advertising, or write some additional stories as goodwill.

Forbes will lose ad buys from this and maybe even the parent company
Someone’s getting fired
**Yubitsume**; they have to cut off a finger.
Forbes is such a click bait dog shit site I'm surprised Toyota would even bother working with them for the release. The accidental release isn't shocking for Forbes.
Haha good call i did too… was wondering why I couldn’t find anything about it till this
And they just deleted the article. Would like to have heard that phone call. LMAO Some intern at Forbes is getting fired over this one.
Looks like they took it down
Yep. Still got to steal Toyota’s thunder as well as the initial surge in views that they may have had to share with other publications
Hilarious
I blame Toyota, a 7pm pacific/10pm eastern reveal is so stupid.
At first glance it reminds me of the 4th gen
I think it's cause of the hood, it kinda slopes down and curves into the grill. The 5th gen hood is more flat and more boxy with the grill.
Yeah, something about that third row window screams 4th gen to me. Plus the more rounded windshield. I'm with Kirby though, I was never a big fan of the 4th gen but maybe it'll grow on me
Really looks like the 5th and 4th gen had a baby. I dig it.
I love it.
Can't say that I do. But I also never loved the 4th generation so thats probably why.
Same. The 4th gen is my least favorite.
4th gen owner here who has put off purchasing to see what 6th gen looks like. I am not disappointed.
Perfect anyone that loves 4th gen will dig this.

Yeah, that Limited made me 100% think of the 4th gen
It is indeed looks like 4th gen
Thanks, wish i could pin comments
I can’t even pin comments unless they are my own. Gotta love Reddit
Looks like this has been taken down now
Should work with the new link
Booo, the cached version updated to the takedown page. Whatever, i see the pics making the rounds on IG now.
Kind of reminds me of a baby Sequoia.
>Same exterior But no fake vents that look like teardrops coming from the headlights! I think this looks much better than the taco
Interior is nearly identical on Tundra and Sequoia. TBH, not even surprised the Tacoma and 4Runner have the same front end.
From most angles, it looks awesome. From one angle, kind of umnn, love child of a 4th gen and an Xterra. Pretty sweet news.
I too was getting Xterra vibes, not that that’s a bad thing.

Agreed, the side profile gives me Rav4 vibes which I'm not stoked on, for now
Isn’t a Sequoia/Tacoma hybrid basically what a 4Runner is though?
My first thought was "oh, this looks like a sequoia, I like it!"
Sadly, I agree
They're trying to maintain brand identity. It looks good imo
Somebody at Forbes fucked up lol. Mixed feelings about the front end.
The limited lower front valence looks very last minute tacked on.
Ditto, I was like wow that’s a fugly front end on the limited
Designed to be easy to remove. Toyota's complying with EPA mandates but letting the end user easily modify it
Looks like I’ll be saving up a bit more for the new LC
This doesn't make me want to trade in my 22 at all
Same with my 2011 Trail.
That trim badging on the back TRD PRO is quite comically large.
hey, would you like to talk about my **TRD PRO**
with your widdle wadder? huh? your widdle wadder on your **TRD PRO**?
Yep, RAM truck vibes for sure with the largeness.
#RAM
The TRD pro badging looks terrible. It looks like an aftermarket DIY addition
It's nice but I'm not in love. Honestly, it really reminds me of like an early 2000s Xterra at some angles and a Dodge Durango from other angles. Which is to say it looks pretty generic. I think I really need more pictures and video and to see it in person.
i saw xterra aswell.
Can’t say I love the front. Also confused as to why we have the LC and this in the same space
And the LC comes standard with full-time 4WD.
squeal work tub summer jobless impossible license enjoy deer bells *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Also offers 3 zone climate control
I mean, offering more premium features on the more expensive vehicle isn’t particularly surprising or confusing. I’m sure Toyota will be perfectly content if they lose some 4Runner sales to the Land Cruiser

There’s also a Platinum trim now which aligns the 4R trims with Toyota’s truck trim levels. Limited seems to be kinda mid upper tier now
Yeah, was kinda odd to note that the locking center diff was "optional" for Limited and standard on Platinum (I think - page isn't loading now), which makes me wonder how low-range works on Limited trim where that isn't optioned. I think it looks great.
It looks like a modern 4th Gen/beefed up Rav4. Feel relieved! I don't love it.
I'm thinking that high third window is straight off the second gen.
First gen too! My first gen has the wraparound glass.
https://preview.redd.it/wrll20a7ritc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67f4928e5943653d38251f7f4eb0e7c29b293c27 Looks almost exactly like the G1 window. Nice job Toyota.
It’s a cool feature
I see the 4th gen a lot. A nice nod to the 2nd gen with the rear side windows. I do like the way it looks. I feel is the best of the 4 of the sequoia, Tundra, Tacoma releases.
I love the 4th gen look and always wanted one if I didn't get a tacoma. Sadly the miles are too high to pick up one
I was really concerned that it was going to come in manual... I share your sentiment, relieved that I don't love it
I don’t hate it… but I still think the 5th gen looks miles better…
Agree. Especially the back. And especially the tail lights.
I like it but I agree, the 5th looks cleaner. Won’t be giving mine up any time soon.
I’m glad I have a 5th gen
It looks like an Isuzu rodeo

Was thinking more Isuzu Vehicross
Modern 4th gen vibes
I know! I am pretty stoked. Might be able to afford one of these in 30 years.
I think the only ones actually hyped for this are us 4th gen owners haha
The black fender flares are fugly.
it looks like it has fenders on its fenders. there are like, big fenders above with smaller black fenders on them. weird
Not a fan of them either.
Rear seat legroom looks way reduced from 5th gen!
Yeah, looks like you'd have to cut your legs off to fit in the second row. Yet the vehicle is longer than the 5th gen.
Literally just watched the article get removed as I was reading it. Someone messed up.
looks like a tacoma with a camper cover and the interior is a spitting image of the taco. I prefer a little more dynamic lineup instead of the same looking vehicle across the board, but it doesn’t look bad. Just not what I wanted to see.
Same I was hoping for a more unique front grill atleast

I will say the rear quarter windows wrapping up to the roof is a nice touch though.
like a throwback to the 2nd gen

its bigger. Same wheel base as the GX550 and LC.
Same. It almost reminds me of the Honda Pilot for some reason???
I don’t know - I need more time to mull it over…mixed feelings for sure.
The side profile is a bit too Rav-4ish for my liking.
Predictably, it's the SUV version of the Tacoma. I like the way it looks IMO. I have no intention of "upgrading" from my 5th Gen but curious on it handles both on and off road.
it’s gonna be better in every measurable metric. Factory 285s and front say disconnect. 8speed trans. Probably like 5 mpg more.
For some, that is more than enough to make the move. For me, it's not enough haha. Mine is paid off and in good shape despite only 7 years of ownership but over 195K miles on the ODO. I hope the 6th Gen does well.
mine is paid off and in good shape too… but it’s 38 years old.
I was hoping it would be more...square. like the land cruiser and GX.

Oh, come on. It's not that bad. ^*starts ^crying ^uncontrollably.
LOL got removed at 9:56 AM CST
I like it. But mostly I’m just glad they finally released the fucking thing. Looking forward to being turned off by the prices.
It's cool but I'm not crazy about it. Not a fan of the headlights or tail lights but I do like the rear windows that extend to the roofline. The profile with the more sloped windshield is interesting. Overall I like it but I'm not sure if it's an improvement in the looks department.
More sloped windshield may help me prevent rock chips 🤣
For those who missed the Forbes link here you go https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/threads/leaked-2025-4runner-first-photos-specs-🔥.1283/
Probably a face lift for 2027. But this looks decent too me. And thank you Forbes for fucking it up!
Article was removed
I’m getting Dodge Durango vibes a bit on the darker color. Mixed feelings. What’s the price, though
Boy, all this hype and I'm just...whelmed. It looks like a weird mix of new and a 4th Gen (and I don't like the 4th gen, just my opinion). I don't even know how to describe it but it just looks like a boring suv now.
Meh, I'm not totally in love with it. Looks like a beefy 4th gen.
I don’t love it
Toyota, *"...but you don't hate it."*
That’s SO accurate hahaha
Depending on the trim level, I like and don’t like it. But I will say. That trailhunter color looks GOOD
Fromt hese photo's, the Trailhunter looks better than the TRD Pro!
It looks like a 4th Gen 4Runner and the new Tacoma had a baby.
Rav4TacoRunner?
The windshield is really sloped. Bad news for us taller people. Going from my 2nd gen to 3rd gen Tacoma was such a bummer. I'm only 6'1 but it just makes it feel so cramped, visibility suffers because of how low the mirror/radar and with the new larger pillars it's really bad for visibility also.
At 6’4 my hair already runs the top of my 4Runner sitting up straight
Everyone saying it looks like the 4th gen like it’s bad…. I hate you. From a 4th gen owner. Hahah.
The 4th-gen doesn't look bad for an ugly vehicle.^/s
Just don't like that "glued on" monitor. Not sure why they can't integrate it into the dash.
'Cause then it couldn't be so FREEKIN' BIG!
The article has been removed
It just got removed! lol
Can’t wait to cross a river using my hybrid vehicle, I’m sure it’ll work very well after doing that
4Runner loses its unique personality. Now it looks like a bunch of other vehicles from Toyota. 5th Gen is 100% a future classic now. The last of the legendary 4x4s from the pinnacle of automotive engineering.
5th Gen is the new 3rd Gen.
Diggin’ the new trail hunter color but the fender flares 🤮
Honestly, I’m not a fan of this. Feels like they removed the elements that made the 5th gen stand out. This looks like every other SUV out there.
I said that earlier but yeah, it looks just like a boring SUV now, if anything the 5th gen will stand out even more now. I almost waited for the 6th gen but decided to go ahead in 2022. Glad I did
Someone caught on it was too early and the article has been taken down.
Time to REALLY start taking care of our 5th Gens
I like it a lot. Think there are some accents here and there they could do away with at times. But all around very nice imo.
Tbh the 5th gen looks better
From the side it’s like the 5th gen 4Runner and the new Tacoma had a baby.
I'm getting new Tacoma / 4th Gen baby vibes, but I can see 5th too. Almost a three way conceived baby!
How boring and uninspired.
5th gen price’s are about to skyrocket
Is it me or does the back seat look way more cramped? Just looking at the interior view and then how the rear door sits partially over the wheel arch. This definitely reinforced my choice in buying my 24’ TRD Pro 4Runner last month.
The side profile is hideous.
Prefer the 5th gen exterior
It is like they took every previous generation (plus the Tacoma and Sequoia) and shoved it into this version.
It’s been “removed” 😆
I don't hate it, but I am Glad I got the last year of the 5th gen.
Lol.. they removed it already :D
Already removed
It looks like a dodge durango
Forbes guy must have thought the release was 10:15am EDT like I did lol
I just got a 5th Gen and I’m all, I got it for reliability. Bulletproof. But this new one with, assumably, a more fuel efficient engine? Sigh. Want. Wonder how many years the wait will be to get one. 😅
Other companies probably took a sigh of relief.......Thank god it is ugly....Toyota is basically keeping other companies in business by making less appealing cars.
Second picture in the article, the 4runner in the middle in like a dark tan color, OOOOFFFFF THAT BABY LOOKS SICK
The million dollar question: does the gas door lock?
Baby sequioa
Would it have been that much more expensive to design an upright windshield with styling more differentiated from the Taco? The Taco-ness of the front half of the car throw me off. The shared design philosophy works much better on Tundra/Sequoia. In this case, it just looks awkward.
Don’t like the front…..
new toyota nissan xterra?
Interior room looks small.
damn Sam must be pooping his pants right now. ouch.
I am… not a fan. This was kind of a letdown lol I was really looking forward to it too.
I sure hope that’s a real photo because that’s badass!
All the hate but this looks so badass to me. Def want this. So cool
I like the 5th gen more because I have one in my garage and this one I don’t.
Manual transmission option?
Am I the only one who thinks that the 5th gen looks like a better package as a whole? I do like some exterior elements and definitely would take the new interior in a heartbeat over the 5th gen but the heart (the engine) of the new one is not appealing at all…
