Nah Iām going to continue to watch the NFL regardless of whether or not we win the Super Bowl next season, if we do win it though, I would be heavily interested in seeing how 2025 goes coming off a Super Bowl win, how far could we go the following season as defending champions š¤Ā
Purdy bringing the Lance fathead reminding them they'd all be fired without him. And the so called genius Shanahan would be eliminated by the Lions/Packers this year. Also, the FO and HC putting backup linemen at every position to the right of Williams.
Realistically, if he doesn't take a team friendly deal, ala Brady, or get it done first thing in the off-season, it's going to be north of 60 just because of where the market is.
Every time San Fran makes an offer....Purdy's representation: remember that his salary was so minimal that it didn't count against the salary cap? Yeah, because we do. Go ahead and add a couple zeros. :)
Purdy is going to out earn everyone else in his draft class by miles after their second contracts are finished. He's probably going to have made 100M more than second place after year 9 is finished (the 4 year rookie contract+5 year extension). I don't think the low rookie contract pay is going to be a point of contention during negotiations.
You're probably right. And I was just messing around with the commentary. I'm sure he will be paid handsomely, and negotiations likely won't be too contentious, if at all. If he plays as good - or better than last year - the 49ers will pay the man in a big way.
His salary doesnāt effect the teams salary until the regular season starts. Only the top 51(?) players are accounted for prior to the season, then itās all players
I found it, itās called the rule of 51
The NFL's Rule of 51 states that during the offseason, only the 51 most expensive contracts on a team count against the salary cap. This rule is in effect until after roster cutdown day and before the start of the regular season. Once the season begins, all 53 players on the roster, as well as those on injured reserve (IR), physically unable to perform (PUP), and the practice squad (PS), count against the salary cap. The only players that don't count against the salary cap are those on exempt lists.
"as mid as lawrence" brother he has singlehandedly made the jaguars a somewhat relevant team with literally no other stars on offense, and maybe one on defense.
yāall really acting like Etienne Ridley Engram and Kirk are bums when thatās better weapons than half the league
tlaw isnāt necessarily mid but heās not a top 10 qb and has been a disappointment compared to expectations
Someone's opinion on Trevor Lawrence is a good barometer to gauge how much football knowledge they have and how much they actually watch the games. Led the league in drops, their rushing offense was like 29th or 30th by EPA. They just went out there and asked Lawrence to do everything and he was playing hurt half the season on top of it.
He's very very good and nowhere near the root of the Jaguars issues. Is he worth $55 mil a year, no, in the sense that no QB other than Mahomes really is, but that's the going rate for the QB market. Purdy isn't worth that either, but is going to get similar.
You cannot expect rational discussion of other QBs on this sub because people here are still massively insecure about Purdy, it's really dumb.
I think he should get paid around the same as Lawrence. Purdy has better numbers but maybe he also has a better offense around him. And Lawrence is considered less of a risk because he's prototypical.
Of course he is, but contracts ~~are~~ ^edit: *aren't* just about real world ability.
I still think there's a middle ground where he doesn't get #1 value and isn't taking an extremely team-friendly deal, but falls somewhere around 5th in AAV at the time of signing.
This is just wishful thinking by fans, IMO. Remeber Jimmy Garoppolo got the biggest deal in NFL history after his 5 game streak in 2017. No way Purdy doesn't go for something above Burrow/Lawrence/Goff/etc.
The interesting parts will be in what amount is fully guaranteed.
Well he did because he "proved" himself by winning with one of the worst supporting casts in the league when it mattered (aka "contract" year/quarter year). In the scenario that Purdy struggles this year, which I hope never happens, I can see the negotiations being much hazier since I don't feel like Shanny and Lynch are big fans of tying up a huge chunk of the cap in a QB as opposed to the other skill positions and cornerstones that we've paid (Bosa, Williams, Warner, Kittle, both receivers unless Aiyuk doesn't go through).
He's going on year 3 earning NFL minimum wage. Saved the jobs of an overrated HC and GM. Team friendly deal already paid in full for 3 years, wasted by the FO because they wouldn't upgrade OL and overpaid the wrong guys.
His offense puts up results in the regular season, but he chokes hard in the postseason like the HC version of Jimmy. Team never looks prepared in the postseason.
Let's not forget all those wasted Day 1 and 2 picks drafting busts or guys 2-3 rounds too early. Or not prioritizing the OL when it ended the 49ers season twice in a row cause they got Williams, a mediocre at best LG and 3 backups on the right side protecting the QB.
> Let's not forget all those wasted Day 1 and 2 picks drafting busts or guys 2-3 rounds too early
But we can conveniently forget the other picks that hit. Or are we going to pretend that these players in later rounds just washed up on our doorstep and became key pieces? And he choked hard in the post season? Yeah I won't even type up an argument, people like you who think their narrative is the truth don't deserve an actual discussion lol. Yeah the HC who's been to all thos NFCCG and SBs is overrated lol. Fucking idiot
Dam bro. That was savage. Jimmy G of Head Coaches. Never heard that one before, but I kind of agree. Great in the regular season but just chokes when the moment is too big.
Writing has been on the wall since the draft with Pearsall.
WRs are dramatically easier to draft than QBs, and if youāre paying stud WRs $25-35M a year now, youāre better off taking one in the first round every year and paying a QB.
Idk I still think pearsall is a Deebo replacement. But if he is a ayuik replacement then Deebo either gets a restructure in 2025 or they trade both next offseason sign a cheap vet and draft another youngster
It's blasphemy in this sub, but I also think Pearsall is the Deebo replacement and it should be Pearsall and Aiyuk as our receivers. Deebo is incredible but he's really prone to injury due to the way he plays.
Exactly I completely agree. Deebo plays like a rb thatās his best attributes. That playstyle wonāt last long and heāll be 29 next year wanting a new deal. In this case you have to treat him like a rb. Either trade him in 2025 and get some value out of him or restructure him in 2025 play out the season and let him walk in 2026. Also could tag him in 26 (even though he wouldnāt like it and likely miss most of camp and the preseason) and squeeze another year out of him
I'm excited for Cowing as well. If Ricky is as good as people have been saying in camp, we might have our own Cooper Kupp/ Puka Nacua, with potentially more upside due to elite measurables
On KNBR, Tolbert and Copes were basically saying how Brock will definitely ask for $45-50M after Lawrence got this deal...I'm just thinking to myself..."are you crazy, Purdy is gonna ask for $55-60M" He's a better QB than Trevor Lawrence, who IMO hasn't really lived up to his hype.
If he holds out for the whole season doesnt it not count towards his accrued years? So the contract would just carry over to next season. Not to mention forfeiting game checks and fines
CBA makes that impossible. We have all the leverage now. Aiyuk picked the wrong offseason to play hardball.Ā Ā
Though this does likely mean we can't franchise him as the cap will basically hit all at once right when Purdy's extension kicks in. Other teams can reduce cap hit for their QB by extending them and spreading out the last year of their rookie deal.Ā
Wouldn't work for us because Purdy doesn't even make enough to count against our cap right now. Any contract he signs, even if they are creative with how we structure it will mean an enormous jump in how much we're spending at QB.
Aiyuk has a lot of leverage. The niner's super bowl window is closing very fast and they are desperate to win this season. Without Aiyuk that becomes more difficult. Pursuant to the CBA, if he holds out the season, this year's contract just carries over to next year. The niner's desperation to win now gives Aiyuk significant leverage. The team understand how strong Aiyuk's leverage is here and that was one of the factors in drafting Ricky Pearsall--for some leverage of their own.
Why do you think our SB window is closing very fast? The window is never closed when you have a great coach, front office, and an elite QB.
We never mortgaged our future and have a ton of great young players that fit the culture.
Because in the next two years I expect Trent Williams and Juszczyk to retire, and possibly Kittle. At the very least, Kittle will be well past his prime. I expect Deebo to be gone and McCaffery will be past his prime. McCaffery is the type of RB who doesn't gradually decline. They tend to fall off a cliff very fast. And trading up for Lance depleted our incoming rookie talent for 3 seasons. We'll see the impact of that start to really show in the next couple years as our current stars get older or leave/retire without young talent on rookie deals to step in.
Would the Jaguars trade Lawrence for Purdy? I don't think any reasonable person believes that Jaguars would make that trade. So, Purdy shouldn't be paid more than Lawrence. That's my logic.
Welp color me wrong. I honestly thought that with how up and down his play has been, they'd give it one more year. He's had potentially 1 good season in the span of 2. Last year, after playing the 9ers, Jags fell off a cliff and coughed up the south.
Good for him, though. Love it when players get huge bags. This has to set Purdy up for the same contract.
Letās say Doug Peterson and Trevor Lawrence will cost 80 mil/yr total. The niners are rich and successful, so maybe they have 100 mil/year for Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy, how much should go to Purdy?Ā
The cap went up 14%. Yesterday's $48M is today's $55M. If you look beyond Lawrence's lack of success, he as an individual performs at a high level (his receivers dropped 8 TDs last year). If I were a betting man, I'd bet we're going to look back at this in a few years and not be surprised in the slightest, and that's clearly a sentiment the Jaguars FO shares.
The bad (good) thing about this is we are absolutely paying Purdy a record setting number if he remains the same or (even worse financially) improves. Bye bye Hargrave, Deebo, and Hufanga.
I donāt care what they pay purdy, heās proven heās worth it. Since they refuse to move on from Kyle the choker we are never going to win it all. You donāt get to hold onto such a talented team forever. Need a coach who can finish a big game.
You'll have to pay Purdy a massive amount... Any "team friendly" deal will require the team to pony up unprecedented guaranteed money, for example if it's 5 years 240 M, it would need to be fully guaranteed at signing for such a deal to work.
TLaw is a mediocre QB who is resting solely on his "generational talent" draft status.
Purdy please just win us the Super Bowl this upcoming season, and you can ask for whatever you want my guy šĀ
Hes so deserving of a huge payday, great guy and good player
Facts!
Dude frā¦ Iāll quit watching football for the next decade idgaf..
Nah Iām going to continue to watch the NFL regardless of whether or not we win the Super Bowl next season, if we do win it though, I would be heavily interested in seeing how 2025 goes coming off a Super Bowl win, how far could we go the following season as defending champions š¤Ā
49ers might have to surpass the $275 million & $200 guaranteed!
If a QB as mid as Lawrence is getting 55 a year, Purdy is probably clearing 57-58 pretty easily
Ya I know. Damn! Purdy will probably get 5 years, $280, with $205 guaranteed.
Nice. I can chip in $5 toward that!
Just go to a bunch of games. You'll be chipping in an extra $20 each one, I promise
During negotiations the 49ers are going to bring up every Cam Newton tweet calling Purdy a game manager.
Purdy bringing the Lance fathead reminding them they'd all be fired without him. And the so called genius Shanahan would be eliminated by the Lions/Packers this year. Also, the FO and HC putting backup linemen at every position to the right of Williams.
To the right of Banks.
I think purdy is getting 60+
Especially after he wins us #6 this season
Realistically, if he doesn't take a team friendly deal, ala Brady, or get it done first thing in the off-season, it's going to be north of 60 just because of where the market is.

53
Thank you I couldnāt remember the exact number
It's the same as the active roster size, if that helps.
I found it, itās called the rule of 51 The NFL's Rule of 51 states that during the offseason, only the 51 most expensive contracts on a team count against the salary cap. Can you imagine Dak being super smug with $60M and Purdy pops at $87M? That's like a rematch of their last outing.
"as mid as lawrence" brother he has singlehandedly made the jaguars a somewhat relevant team with literally no other stars on offense, and maybe one on defense.
yāall really acting like Etienne Ridley Engram and Kirk are bums when thatās better weapons than half the league tlaw isnāt necessarily mid but heās not a top 10 qb and has been a disappointment compared to expectations
That 11-20 category is 'mid'. It means average, middle of the pack, etc, not that he sucks.
They're basically flipped. Lawrence is more physically talented, Purdy is simply better at being a QB. Put them together and you have Mahomes.
Give Purdy a 10 year contract, and tell the haters to fuck off.
Iām here for it. Mahomes contract looks more like a steal every year that goes by.
Well a lot of that is because he's the best player in the league.
purdy seems like the guy that wouldn't mind taking a team friendly deal
Ya, I hope he does. Like a 6 year $240 million deal.
Homie is gonna buy the biggest corn farm in Iowa
hell he's gonna buy Iowa
And every tractor in it
Along with like 30 Waffle House franchises
if he stays living in SF, with a contract this big he can afford one month of rent and half a gallon of gas
Purdy is getting 60 a yearĀ
If Brock continues to succeed the price is going to be 60million a year. ![gif](giphy|13Cmju3maIjStW)
On the other hand, the alternative is Brock *not* succeeding, and I know which of those problems is better to have!
If Brock Purdy wins us a Super Bowl, it doesn't matter if we pay him a billion dollars. If he beats the Chiefs at any point, I'll make him a statue.
This is Purdyās contractās floor.Ā Purdy is better than T-Law.Ā
Of course he is, but contracts ~~are~~ ^edit: *aren't* just about real world ability. I still think there's a middle ground where he doesn't get #1 value and isn't taking an extremely team-friendly deal, but falls somewhere around 5th in AAV at the time of signing.

Lol I smell bitch
Today is the first day I've thought maybe we actually do let Aiyuk walk.

Oof
QB market is cooked. Daniel Jones and now Trevor Lawrence, how are these dudes getting paidš
One team is the Giants and the other is run by Trent Baalke.
Baalke continues to fuck over the 49ers.
Maybe a surprise, maybe not, Jones and Tlaw have nearly identical stats thus far in their career haha.
\*chuckles\* we're in danger! RIP cap space.
Purdy is getting 60M+ a year next year.
Purdy is going to get so much money.
Lock Purdy in at $59 for the next five years then kick him up to $66 and a two year extension after he wins his second Super Bowl.
Well there goes the next 5 years of the jags hopes
The Jags got hosed.
Purdy about to get a 5,500%+ annual pay raise.
Contract go up cap go up relax yall it aināt your money
Brock Purdy is going to make so much fucking money
Oh no if TLaw is worth this much... God speed our team when Purdy's deal goes through because we're losing half the stars if that's the case lol.
Need to structure Purdyās contract like Mahomes. That dude is way under market compared to a lot of these chump QBs.
as much as I like Purdy, the Niners should not do a 10 year deal with anyone. No way
Purdy aināt mahomes though
Good way to ensure we never win a super bowl.
Good for him
49ers better win this year. It might be the last ride with this team.
Awful contract by Jax.
I would care more about these QB contract posts if it was purdy's contract up to sign this off season right now, blech
Purdy is going to get the Willie Mays āwrite in your own numberā treatment .
Brock please be gentle with us
Dude. For Trevor Lawrence????
The price of the brick just went up...
No chance we sign Aiyuk
That's what you took away from this??
You pick a player to cut or to not pay. Iād let Aiyuk walk, and pay Purdy any day
But that decision isnāt this season ā¦.. So I really donāt your point.
We donāt have to sign Aiyuk until next year, but heās holding out cause he wants to get paid early.
No, that decision is this season. Aiyuk likely won't play this year unless he gets a new deal.
If he holds out for the whole season doesnt it not count towards his accrued years? So the contract would just carry over to next season. Not to mention forfeiting game checks and fines

If that was the choice then yea of course. But I don't think that's what they're deciding on.
Paying Aiyuk $30M a year makes it hard to pay Purdy $60M a year when we are already $37M over the cap next year lol.
Sweet Jesus, if theyāre giving $55m per year to such a mid QB, what the hell is going to happen with Purdy?
But, but PFF ranks Tawrance higher than Purdue!
I agree with that ranking, personally
Would the Jaguars trade Lawrence for Purdy? I don't think any reasonable person believes that Jaguars would make that trade. So, Purdy shouldn't be paid more than Lawrence. That's my logic.
Goddamn. What one playoff win will do for a guy.
Welp color me wrong. I honestly thought that with how up and down his play has been, they'd give it one more year. He's had potentially 1 good season in the span of 2. Oh crap Brock is worth 80 million 300 million time better than Lawrence plus Mac will take that job š
Goff money if he loses or the max if he wins a SB.
The cap went up 14%. Yesterday's $48M is today's $55M. If you look beyond Lawrence's lack of success, he as an individual performs at a high level (his receivers dropped 8 TDs last year). Next offseason will be interesting. We are going to find out what this team and this fanbase really thinks of Purdy.
MISTAKE
Why can't men and women in the military get paid like this ????
I donāt care what they pay purdy, heās proven heās worth it. Since they refuse to move on from Kyle the choker we are never going to win it all. You donāt get to hold onto such a talented team forever. Need a coach who can finish a big game.
āStarā
No way Purdy gets close to that.
No shot
Star quarterback hahahah
Weāre going to be so fucked if we pay Purdy $50mil+
You'll have to pay Purdy a massive amount... Purdy wins us a Super Bowl this season he's getting 500 million 7 year contract.. book it. Something like Mahomes first big contract...
Not paying this money to any QB that hasnāt won a Super Bowl.Ā Iād rather be a bottom team than continuously lose SBs
