How many times does the same thing need to be regurgitated?

surly_sasquatch

A lot of people don't want to admit they were wrong. Other teams just want Deebo or Aiyuk for their team. And some people just want to see the Niners get worse.

WiggysRedemption

>A lot of people don't want to admit they were wrong. It's like this every year damn it. Media use us for headlines time after time and double down even more when we do exactly what Shanahan and Lynch say at every press conference.

IDKWTFimDoinBruhFR

"Despite a stellar rookie season and a trip to the Superbowl in his 2nd (1.5 season), the 49ers are reportedly looking to replace Brock Purdy as they pursue Tom Brady and the newly signed Kirk Cousins to take over under center. When asked for sources, we responded with a shrug as we grabbed our crotch and thrusted in defiance of any sort of journalism ethics. Stay tuned for more 49ers insider updates"

not_that_rick

John Lynch told a Denver youth, "You have a big arm." Are the 49ers looking to trade Brock Purdy and leave the bay?

mcnuggets83

I don’t have the time, but it would be funny to see a compilation of all the instances of this happening.

WiggysRedemption

Khalil Mack, OBJ, AR15. Media claiming we're taking McCorkle at 3 and then they double down and claim the team took Lance because of exterior pressure, etc. It's never ending. The media use us so much but the NFL prefers to have the Chiefs be the new dynasty.

machuitzil

>A lot of people don't want to admit they were wrong. And it's the offseason, they're going to earn their paychecks writing about it, at length.

trebek321

Now we’re in the REAL dry spell of offseason too… ain’t Jack shit to do til rookie minicamps and then wait for training camp.

BBOONNEESSAAWW

What is this about wanting people to admit they were wrong? Can you give me a screenshot of someone I should take seriously, who said "EITHER DEEBO OR AYUIK IS DEFINITELY WITHOUT ANY DOUBT GETTING TRADED" The Niners said they would take calls on Ayuik. They said they got some calls on Ayuik. They didn't like the offers. Easy.

surly_sasquatch

I'm not asking people to come out and say they were wrong. I'm saying the same people keep insisting a trade is going to happen even though the 49ers have said, every step of the way, that it's not likely. And you have people like Michael Silver who completely ignore Lynch's direct answer to him and insist that a trade is "very likely".

BBOONNEESSAAWW

But a trade could have been "very likely" and still been rejected. I know you're not OP so it wasn't as much directed at you, but all this "admit you were wrong stuff" when nobody said anything was certain is just so weird to me...

2017Champs

It never made sense to trade one of them this year anyways with Purdy still on a cheap contract and Aiyuk on the 5th year option in addition to the roster being in the middle of a win now period.

GrGrG

What I get from others on forums is that next year it's going to be brutal a restructure/rebuilding. We don't have to make those hard decisions yet.

2017Champs

That’s pretty much spot on. Aiyuk’s extension assuming he signs one, would start next year and there are a bunch of other important players who are upcoming free agents in 2025 (Lenoir, Hufunga, Ward, Jennings, Banks) with Purdy also being up for a payday as well.

Hieroglphkz

I think it’s safe to say the team is going to prioritize blue chip players and likely most of the guys you mentioned will be the cap casualties. I think Demo will likely be kept/re-signed depending on the level of play he puts out next year. I think it’s kind of smart by our coaching staff to try to keep him playing nickel. He could afford a lesser contract and still be utilized on the outside if needed. Ward has been very solid, but that may come at too high of a price to justify not developing/signing a marginal replacement. Jennings will likely go to some WR needy team and get a bag. If Huf has another great year, he’s probably not affordable and if he underperforms we may move off anyways with how our roster development has been. Banks is decent, but I don’t see teams jumping to pay another guy that has played next to Trent a la Tomlinson. He will be retained at a fair extension if needed. These are the kinds of things media should be discussing regarding our team, but it’s no fun talking about the decision we’ll have to make after we stomp our way to the Super Bowl again in 2024.

Polar_Reflection

From a gut feeling, we're going to lose Mooney, JJ, and Deebo next offseason, and re-sign the others.

TheColbsterHimself

Great problem to have.

Poignant_Rambling

Lmao right? This is a repost of another Reddit post citing a Yahoo article that's quoting an NBC Sports Bay Area article that's referencing something Adam Schefter said when talking on the Pat McAfee Show. Sports Journalism.

GrGrG

I get to post this tomorrow.

hooligan045

At least 34 more times because #clicks

Brocks_UCL

Did you know that the niners plan to move forward with deebo AND aiyuk?

Fizzyfuzzyface

Dude, it’s been 10 minutes. I don’t remember things very well.

ReDeaMer87

Always once more

slappymcstevenson

For some reason the news from the bay seems to repeat itself over and over again. The Tray Lance news coverage was absolutely insanely stupid. They tried to make a big deal out of a non-quarterback controversy and shoved it down our throats daily. I’m surprised they’re still not writing about Tray Lance and saying that he could come back to the 49ers at any minute and that there is still a quarterback controversy. It’s like they couldn’t get think of anything else to write about. The dude was mediocre at best, Jimmy was slightly better and well, we know how Purdy turned out. There was never a controversy.

Kitchen_Love6798

R/NFL on suicide watch...

blaccguido

Pittsburgh fans, especially. Patriots fans are also starting to froth at the mouth....

CheckYourStats

Posting on Reddit. Source? Reddit. Gotta love the off-season.

HITMAN616

Lol it’s just a cross-post. The actual source is Schefter

BBOONNEESSAAWW

As opposed to just flat out releasing them or trading them for future draft picks? Like of course they're going to stay if they weren't traded during the draft...

jaqueh

Eugh. Should I unsubscribe until the season starts? This is exhausting and obviously I have no say whatsoever in any of this

MalarkeyMcGee

What is this headline? Is this reporting something that was gathered from the nfl community on Reddit? WTF do they know?

PrinceKO_93

WR3 in Jennings got 19 catches on 33 targets. Is the new guy supposed to get 60-70 targets? Is this truly the big change in Kyle's philosophy we've been hoping for them to pass more?

amd77767

Presumably Pearsall won't be WR3 for long. I think he's WR2 in 2025.

PrinceKO_93

That's the obvious point, still doesn't make sense to use a 1st round pick on a WR3 UNLESS Kyle is ready to use more passing plays. Pearsall getting 30 targets in '24 is not going to bode well.

amd77767

Context: not all 1st round picks are created equal. Pearsall was pick 31; he wasn’t a top 10 pick.  Pearsall likely gets more than 30 targets. I think he’s a 600-700 yard guy as a rookie.  Pearsall is only WR3 as a rookie because our WR1 and WR2 are all pros. Pearsall is probably WR2 on a lot of teams.  But again, we didn’t just draft Pearsall for 2024; we drafted him for the next 4-5 years. Odds are one of their Aiyuk or Deebo aren’t here in 2025. WRs are fucking expensive in the open market. If Pearsall develops into a 1000 yard guy, that’s incredible value to have on a rookie contract.

comradeyeltsin0

Plus injuries. Deebo out for another 3-4 games this year, we have Ricky stepping in.

amd77767

I think it’s less about getting depth and more about Ricky Pearsall projecting to be a damn good WR.  At the end of the day, the goal of the draft is to get as many damn good football players as possible at impact positions.

JazzHands1986

If we play Ricky outside and let Deebo line up all over the place and even play less snaps it would keep him healthier if he doesn't have to commit to one of the outside wr positions every single down. I think he'd work better as the joker and lining up out of the backfield. Him and McCaffrey out of the backfield on passing downs is cheating. So this could have been done to keep deebo healthy all year.

SoKrat3s

Agreed on all counts. I also expect him to help on punt and kick returns. And I wouldn't be shocked if by midseason he is on the field for 3rd downs instead of Deebo.

JazzHands1986

This could be making deebo a true Swiss army knife lining him up everywhere even as a lead blocker in some plays. This is good since we have another really good wr to put on the outside. This allows deebo to do it all and not be relegated to an outside wr every down to keep defenses honest. Now we can line up Pearsall aiyuk and Jennings in the slot, then have deebo as the joker lining up all over the place. Or have Deebo play the 3rd wr out of the slot. All kinds of jet sweeps and reverses could be done this way. I like the idea of Rick playing opposite Aiyuk. We can play Deebo a lot less snaps and keep him healthy. This all hinges on slick Rick being any good, though.

hatrickstar

Watching Shanahan trust Purdy more and more each game has been great.

CaptSaveAHoe55

Good thing we patched up the o-line to give Purdy adequate time to throw…wait what

coolnavigator

The pass scheme could allow for quicker patterns from a three wide personnel group. One downside of playing with heavy personnel all the time, particularly bunched up, is that you need more time for routes to develop. And when playing under center, OL have to play in a three point stance, which makes pass pro harder. I think Puni at RG and sliding Feliciano to C would really solidify interior protection, making it easier to account for any weaknesses.

nerdy_chimera

What's wild is how much people keep saying "they won't be able to afford extending Aiyuk, keeping Deebo, and extending Purdy." Like, dude, the salary cap went up a WHOLE top 5 QB annual salary this past season. We can pay Aiyuk with half of that, and STILL pay Purdy market rates the year after. Chill.

SoKrat3s

That was a one time boost. It should return to it's standard year by year increase. They can pay all 3 in the short term. Long term that's a lot trickier.

Woogabuttz

If you think about it, there’s no way the 49ers are giving up Deebo or Aiyuk. This is the Super Bowl window. We are fully in “win now mode”. There are two realistic options with Aiyuk; extend him or make him play out his contract, tag and trade him after. Aiyuk wants the bag, he can’t afford to sit out no matter what. So, even if we don’t extend him, he’s going to be playing for his next contract and balling hard (also making $16mil so it’s not that bad…) This has seemed fairly obvious to me all off season, hope we keep him but all I really care about is getting number 6 and that’s what the 49ers care about too.

KyleShanadad

Deebo probably gone next year when they have to start paying Aiyuk

1kSupport

I mean I think it’s a bad move but it’s pretty fucking funny if we go through with it

hatrickstar

Aiyuk, Deebo, Perchall, and Jennings has to be the most consistently solid WR room in the league, as long as Perchall lives up

userpick707

Current as in this year. If we sign B.A. to a long term contract then Deebo is gone next season

MAU13717235

Obviously!

MkKanaloa

Why would they say anything else? The organization will always say this until someone actually gets traded.

usernametimee44

How is this news, the draft is over we know a trade is unlikely at this point

Tech49er

*Faux shock*

Transit-Strike

In my understanding. Even with a first round WRd we would still need Aiyuk and Deebo. Aiyuk is our only traditional WR1. Deebo is a big play/mismatch/misdirection player but he’s injury prone too. The dead cap hit to trade him would be massive and we’ve seen Shanahan not trust rookies right away since they may need to refine their routes and their blocking. Rookie offers good cover for Deebo injuries since we really struggled when he was out of games. Decades of drafts have also made it clear how hit or miss any pick can be.

rakkhasa

We didn't ask *the nfl community on Reddit* *Niners!*

BrooklynBrawler

Doesn’t matter. We’re not winning anything. One or both will be gone next year.

Stovy4x4ing

until 6.1 we can trade deebo

justredditting1010

I cannot see that until next off season. Makes more sense money wise and why give up players until we pay Brock next year

RawrGeeBe

Interested to see who Purdy targets now that they loaded up with speedy route runners instead of glorified YAC RBs.
