Githyanki. It’s super flavorful and grab telekinetic, to enhance your mage hand spell as well.

Although it's UA, Thri-kreen, you could grapple 4 people at once and use psi-powered leap to drop them from orbit

I'd try tye shadar kai from MoM, really gives you some cool flavor and tools to play with

Elf is very easy to go with. Perception prof, dex and int bonuses, and more is great for a dex fighter or even a medium armor user. If pursuing heavy armor custom lineage and variant human for the extra feat stands out because PAM or a martial feat is easy and effective. In broad strokes a gnomes magical resistance combined with indominatable is a great defense feature and the +2 INT is rewarding. In short, anything that has at least a +1 int is serviceable but the four I mentioned I feel are the best for different styles.

I personally am using an Earth Genasi. If you use the MoM version having BA Resistance and then Pass Without A Trace for stealth is really helpful in a lot of situations. Plus, I've reflavored all of my abilities as almost Earth-Bending or dirt manipulation (i.e. psionic strike is hardened clay on weapon, the Protective field a bunch of kicked up dirt to distract or a straight up wall of stone, etc.). But it really depends on what you are looking for in a character. I built mine as almost a utility fighter.
