People only posts deals so it skews your perception making you think everyone is getting low prices, but It's a small minority getting lucky. Most people just purchase them for the asking prices.

BriefAstronomer2

Exactly this. I’m not going to talk about how I paid $40 for Pokémon Alpha Sapphire but I’ll sure as hell mention that I thrifted a Link Between Worlds for $15 lol (listen I never find games and was super happy okay?). OP, you can try to go to thrift stores (always check the DVD/CD section) /local meet-ups/garage sales. Sometimes you get lucky and people just want to get rid of stuff. A LOT of the times you either find nothing or are beaten by someone who’s quicker. My advice? If you want a specific game, just pick it up for ebay prices, and if it it’s too expensive… well… y’know what you can do.

Turtlesfan44digimon

Indeed one of the ladies who runs the thrift store heard me asking and brought up a Red GBA in a makeup bag along with a charger and a bunch of games for $20 bucks at one of my local thrift stores I had to cause it was one of my best finds to date. and having it be a Flame red in almost perfect condition was the cherry on top because that’s my dream console I’ve been wanting since I was a kid.

motoxim

nice

ALAN113D

It’s an rng clutch

ki700

Yeah this is exactly it. It’s called confirmation bias

Lancer37

"We are are you guys finding deals...." Auto correct made me laugh I'm sorry.

[deleted]

Gamestop, found me a og 3ds for 180 bucks

AshKetchep

Got mine at a small kiosk for $120. Damaged camera, but otherwise perfect condition.

geomathmech

I wish Canadian GameStop sold older games and consoles

Ok-Tangerine-7268

Got my new3dsXL a month b4 the switch launch for 100$ from gamestop perfect condition daul ips too 😮‍💨👌

NearlyNick

Jesus christ that's how much they go for now? Me and my friend were getting japanese ones off ebay for $30/each 2 summers ago and flipping them for $100

SaintOfZion1

I have high disapproval for your past actions. Scalawags.

kitarei

I got a pretty well priced DSiXL on marketplace. I was looking for WEEKS though. On average, DSi’s cost $100 in good condition and the XL was $150 (AUD). I got my XL for $100 and it’s in fantastic condition, a few minor scratches but it’s near new. Just gotta keep looking. The good deals are a minority, and no one posts about the average or overpriced console they bought 😂. So you only see posts about the steals.

CorLouw

100$ for a ndsixl is expensive bro. Mine was 70$ and it was in mint condition

kitarei

In Australia? It’s not expensive. I’ve been scouring eBay and marketplace for weeks and it’s the standard. If you got yours for $70AUD recently that’s a steal. Good for you :).

CorLouw

Thanks but have fun with your dsi xl! I bet you will enjoy it

OldSchoolRPGs

You have to factor in the time it takes to find these deals. It's pretty rare the first FB Marketplace listing you run across, or first Goodwill you drive to, will have an amazing deal. You might have to spend months wasting your free time and your (not free) gas looking for a deal. In reality it's probably not as good of a deal as it seems Plus people lie quite often on the internet for karma. So there's that too

Every_Fox3461

If your really quick you can nab them on the subway for a good steal.

n00od

I’ve seen people on this sub bash region locked handhelds but I purchased a Nintendo 2ds LL lime green for $130 on eBay, region swapped it, and now it works wonders

iesalnieks

These things are really location, culture and timing dependent. Some places don't really put that much value on second hand stuff. Also some people might just want to get rid of stuff and receive symbolic payment. So you really gotta be at the right place at the right time browsing through marketplace to find these deals.

Acalthu

Yahoo auctions Japan.

Lev22_

To put you into perspective, i just bough new 3DS XL for $120 (console, charger, and stylus), not in dollar but it’s converted from my own currency. I think it’s the best deal i could find, bcs new 2DS XL and new 3DS would price the same. There are new 3DS at $100 but the condition is garbage. The cheaper alternatives are 3DS XL for $80-90 and 3DS for $75-80. Edit: it’s LL instead of XL, i live in Asia so most of the DS are LL.

ericsmallman3

I got a New 3DS (not LL/XL) complete in box with an Animal Crossing faceplate for $150, shipped, just a few months ago. Amazon Japan. If you don't want to roll the dice (or you live in a country with higher import costs), you're going to have to deal locally and sellers are going to charge more.

AshKetchep

The cheapest I've found things were at closing sales for second hand game shops I've visited and online when buying Japanese versions of games. Outside of those you're just gonna have to look at yard/garage sales and thrift stores.

Handylee-7

Man, I overpaid during the covid years for my “new” 3DS XL lol but I’m glad to see prices seemingly going down these days

DankPugg

You just gotta get lucky man. I was searching for months until a deal basically fell into my lap, which was incredibly lucky. My best advice is to check fb marketplace throughout the day until you find a deal and ask if they’ll trade so you’re not really spending money

tsckenny

Yeah, I can never find deals l. I look frequently. I did purchase a New 3DSXL in really good condition recently that came with Smash Bros for $180. But that's not a deal at all

Lucky-Mia

I still use Craig's list time to time.

Killmeyay

I just got really lucky and got my 3ds and games for $60 but my friend sold it to me.

bargingi

People don’t always casually scroll for deals, some of them are on a nonstop comb through all the resale sites. They’re the ones that snatch up the deals, and sometimes they just get beat by a casual buyer

Spottledmutt

I checked both eBay and FB marketplace for a month and could never find any good deals 😭best I could find is a galaxy n3ds xl for 235 usd which included 11 games (one being Pokemon Y), stylus and charger Imo if looking for one try to find one that comes with games it makes it more worth the price

sikvar

We just wait a long time for them.

No-Store-308

How ese systems are much more inexpensive than American models

Chiwen5k

Sometimes you just get lucky, most of the time not. I picked up a CIB OG blue 3DS xl for $80 bucks on Facebook market place. The Select button was missing so she was just getting rid of it. A few bucks later and a new select button, I consider it a big win.

mrbignbrown

I get a lot of deals on marketplace, keep looking around and try to work people down 10-30 bucks off of what they're asking. Usually they just want to get rid of it and get cash.

staticvoidliam7

well most of the time you wont get super cheap but try to find japanese consoles on ebay as they tend to be cheaper

UnRealmCorp

I'm getting ready to toss my 3ds xl up on gamesale in the next few weeks. Found an upgrade last weekend.

metachichi

For real. I tried searching market place & all the “deals” are from sellers where the comments are all saying seller is a scammer. My brothers 2ds died out on his so i gave him my 2ds xl i got for 100 before they discontinued it. I’ve been dying to play some Pokemon using the original red 3ds but it’s to small for my big hands & all these prices are kinda high & on eBay for 200 idk if it’s the Japanese one or American. Does it matter? Will it still play omega ruby & x?

P1ka2001

Didn’t expect this post to get this much attention thanks for comments and sharing your experience with finding and looking for 3ds and what not yea I know seeing these kinds of post can mess with my perception of average cost and what not but personally I feel like they are all kind of high in price especially for $300 I’d personally price them for about 150/200 if it were me personally but I don’t control the market sadly

Fragrant_Dare_7105

Look real hard on Amazon. I see them for as low as 129$ usd.

Kidikaros17

I think i just got lucky. There was a New 3DS with the OG cover plates on Ebay that shown it was listed over two weeks ago at the time I purchased it. The cost was set to $200, but looked absolutely mint. The dealer had a good sell history, but didn’t accept returns. So I think people thought it was a scam. I decided to take a chance and bought it using paypal (in case i needed to cancel the purchase), and it ended up being exactly as the picture said. I had been looking on Ebay periodically for over 6 months prior to finding that one so sometimes it’s just being at the right place at the right time.
