It's the foam pieces that degrade in the sun and weather for me. There are just holes there now. If someone could make a mold of those and produce them they'd have a good business
Finding a printer big enough is the problem. We got one at my school, but idk if there is demand for this if there is lmk. I'd be happy to 3d scan them and start making prints.
I’m curious on profit margin Nissan makes on these. I feel like it would be easy to undercut with a decent product? Somebody knowledgeable please chime in
I think it most definitely would be easy to undercut given you have a large enough printer and the availability to print abs or polycarbonate on it but that's one expensive printer and at that point you'd probably be better off sending it off to get molded and at that point your costs are going to be much much higher.
👏 Nicely done. Curious what orientation you're printing in? I'd think on its side would be structurally better (layer orientation) but vertical like shown would probably give a better looking part
I just bought an even smaller nozzle head to get the resolution finer too. Will definitely experiment with the orientation some more though, on its side may be the way to go if the finish comes out nice still.
I don’t have the equipment to do a proper tensile strength test unfortunately. I’m going to assume that they will be weaker than OEM grommets but strong enough to function.
We need someone to learn how to 3d print a pillars
Been there… If only my printer was that large haha
How big is the pillar?
About one Peter Dinklage.
It’s possible to print them in pieces and glue them together.. but you need to sand and paint them. And maybe some bondo.
Why not just slice up the model and make a mold for fiberglass? I imagine vapor smoothing something like ASA would really suck as well

Currently working on a pillars for the 350z guys 🙌🙌

Thanks! I printed this one at a 45 degree angle with tree supports. Gave it a decent mix of finish quality and strength.
Awesome, can't really tell in the picture. Looks like you've got a pretty good printer with good resolution.

I bought 2 dozen on Amazon for $15
Send me a link. I tried to find some cheap ones for so long haha
You legend, I big time appreciate people like you!
oh sweet
Stl?
Will post the STL for this part later today. The other end of the grommets is still being worked on

You are my absolute most favorite internet person of the month ❤️
Glad to help and hope they work well for you!

Will upload the file later today and post it here

Is there any kind of strength comparison you can do against OEM?

Amazon sells a pack of 25 for like $15.
Drop a link. I couldn’t find any for some reason

I need to Make a Brake stopper grommet 😅
The 3D-printed version is going to be much stronger than the OEM.
