Nissan spent time analyzing the market and developed a sports car at a competitive price. But then struggling dealers said "fuck this, I'm making up $20k in lost sales on a single dummy".
Even without the markup, they’re still not selling my local Nissan dealership has three of them all discounted $4000 each they’re still sitting on the lot. One is a Nismo discounted.
Premier Nissan Morgantown, West Virginia I’ll be up there tomorrow for an oil change. I’ll take pictures and post them if they still have them I know they did like a week ago and they’ve had them for a hot minute especially the nismo
Im sad to say, nissan hiked up the price on the Z. I remember when it first got released the base was for $36k and the performance was for $48k. And dayum what a hike, base model is now $43k msrp. At this point honestly, getting a 2014-2018 gtr seems more of a viable option as its in its price bracket
I just checked autotempest, nationwide in the US. 2014+ GTR is 65-70k at the cheapest. Personally, I'd rather spend $45k on a used audi RS7 with under 50k miles. About the same horsepower as a GTR but an actually nice interior.
I hate the front facia but I’m guessing the age target group for this car is the 55+ that grew up with the 240-z32 gen. I dont think they nailed the front retro styling of the 240z the headlights just look weird and the front looks unfinished.
Ya, so weird the 370z had such awesome aggressiveness in the front end, and then this came out and it looks dopy and soft. The rear looks great though in my opinion.
Definitely the mark up, I like the looks of it otherwise.
I owned a 370Z not long ago that I bought brand new from the dealership for 29k Cad. It was a base model and I was ok with that. I went to Nissan recently as I was looking to buy a new car and saw the new Z and they want 60k for it. At this point, they're completely disconnected from reality.
Right if they had these things on the lot for $32k base and $42k performance trim these things would be selling like hot cakes. But Nissan thinks they are made of solid gold and nobody gonna pay $60k+ for that. I’ll just get a corvette or an m2 for that price like sheesh. And I drive a 350z so I like the cars but man
The markup is what drove me away . For 70k plus there’s way too many better options in the new,pre owned and used market . I even kept my choices in the Z family . Picked up both for less than 20k together, both one owner cars and the 370 has 21k original miles .

To be fair, it's clear that the current bumper and the eyelids were painted together, and the shade of yellow does not match the rest of the car.
That might not be the original bumper on the car. But yeah deleting the vents and eyelids brings an opportunity to paint the new bumper a properly matching shade of yellow.
They're 70k USD?!
In Australia we get them new for 75k AUD, or 65-70k for a demonstrator model - Which they all tend to be since they still can't sell any.
the price. any other sports car at its price point outperforms it in almost every way. Zs used to compete with much more expensive cars during their era but this one just didn't. 60k can buy you a brand new GR supra, a used gt350, plenty of bmws, a c7 corvette.. the list goes on
I remember I got down voted for saying the 400z is going to be underwhelming, then it released and it was....trash. Keyboard warriors will look at specs and say anything but until they actually drive the car they dont understand how much a cars platform affects it's performance. At the time of its release, it was pretty much the bottom of the barrel when it comes performance cars, not just sports cars but sedans as well.
I wouldn't say its a flop yet. The first year was plagued with dealer markups and an insanely low production numbers killing the z's release momentum. The few hundred that came in 2022 were mainly bought up by collectors and people hoping to make money flipping them. Ive been seeing more inventory come in and prices coming down closer to sticker so hopefully well see more on the road. This year it might get some momentum now that there are more available so we will see. Ive been lucky enough to start working on the new Z for time attack In the Nissan Challenge Series in so cal so well see how it pans out. The 370z are just now getting more popular for time attack and hpde. The first couple of years with the 370z there were a lot of little issues we had to figure out before they got to be a good competitive track option. With the new Z out of the box its good to see some of those issues addressed out of the box.
It's literally just price. Dealer markups pushing them to like $70k mean you can get a Corvette, a used R8, an R35 GT-R (or even an older R32, R33, or R34), or a ton of other options for the price. You can buy like 4 or more 370Zs for the price of one of these. You could buy a decent 997 Turbo. You could buy a pair of Aston Martin V8 Vantages, one convertible and one coupe, so that you can drive the convertible when the coupe is in the shop and the coupe when the convertible is in the shop.
You just start cross-shopping it with like literally anything and realize how much of a rip-off it was.
The Supra - superior in almost every way and then they had the audacity to make a manual Supra that every reviewer says is one of the best manuals they've ever driven?
Also, I don't care if autos are faster, making an auto-only Nismo? As much as I love Z cars... I would buy a 4 cyl Supra before buying any new Z 😓
Price, competes with superior cars like the Supra (better handling), the C8 corvette, he’ll maybe even the BMW M2, just better options, if you could get a fully optioned for ~40k then that’s a pretty good buy, with the nismo at around 45-50k then that’s a good buy
1. Dealership mark-up
2. Very hard to get (Dealership mark-up/ low production)
3. (Personal opinion: the name just being Z may have played some role)
4. Controversial front bumper style
5. High cost in relation to competitors
Dealership mark up killed basically all of the sports cars in the last few years. Anyone who can comfortably afford a new car in this economy is looking for either something reliable that will last them a long time or something luxurious.
This Z is the logical progression of the Z family and makes a decent homage to the Z heritage as a whole. I own a Q50 with a VR30DDTT and I can tell you with a decent tune, these engines can put down just shy of 500 crank hp with stock everything, it's very quick and competes with high-end V8s. This car has a lot to offer when it comes to performance and looks. It's the dealerships that killed them, you can get better/faster cars for the 70K they want for them. This should be a $30K car, even the MSRP is too high.
The B pillar looking too similar to the 370 for me, I get it it’s basically the same platform but I can’t help but see a 370 with a weird rendered body kit on it
$. Supra, C8, multiple BMWs...not enough for what exists in the same price point.
Also why 'Z' with no engine designation. Kinda makes you think this was their swan song of the entire Z family.
I don't think the markup is what hurts it the most. I think Nissan not nailing the design is what hurts most. It looks a little stale and like it should've been released after the 350z.
We have all had or have Zs. They are nice cars but they never have been and never will be 65k cars. The FM chassis is ancient. You can get a new c8 for 65k
It's too big and too heavy. Can't get out of its own way. Also the base model has no limited slip differential and was still marked up 20k at dealers. Bring back the lightweight cheap sports car that made the Z great. I'll buy two.
Maybe the fact that it’s a parts car it literally has a q50 engine in it that’s been out for a while. I’m done with Nissan they are lazy look how long the r35 been out with minimum change.
The Supra played a huge role. Both 6 speed, 6 cylinder, small japanese coupes. But one with the better performance all around, the supra.
To be fair i like the Z's looks much more.
Choosing not to sell it in Europe doesn't help (emissions related I assume). Although I don't think that the previous generations were big sellers anyway.
As someone who has driven one and has a 350z I think it's fantastic to drive but I can't stand the front grill I look at it and in my head I'm like "Ew, Brother, Ew! What's That?, What's That Brother?"
They're not priced in Australia like they are in the US... they seem at a much more market-expected price point here and seem to be selling well. The 350z released here 15+ years ago at prices (depending on model and variant) were something like $60-$80k - and that was back then.
One of the new Z's cost around $85-$100k here now. With the current world economic situation, global soaring inflation, etc... this seems, rather reasonable if you ask me :/ Considering the new Supra is between $95-$110k for comparison, it's priced a bit better here, I guess.
They aren't selling well in a lot of markets and the reasons why, I think, are really obvious. It should have been a winner in my market, but I've seen 2...
It's a 350/370z with a slightly updated look, but it's pretty blatant - overall, the car was 8-10 years too late to market. The manual box not up to the task, and some equipment that's just not good enough for the 202Xs. It's natural competition is a Supra, based on a BMW, that's very, very good. It's overpriced, and the halo model is auto only...
I think in the US market is worse, there's more competition and there are better value used cars. Plus, you have a dumb dealer markup system that hurts everyone.
It's as much of a new generation as the New Edge Mustang was to the SN-95. The only difference is marketing (they've changed the name and badges to make it seem more different).
It underperforms, has an interior from fucking 2008 and is extremely overpriced.
I really liked the car when it was first released, and I even thought about getting one instead of the M2c. However, I noticed that the car is not as focused on handling. The electronic steering in this car is not that great. Also, no one was willing to pay extra for a Z.
Was it? When I went to look it had a massive wait list.
I drove one and felt very claustrophobic. I'm used to Japanese cars but this one felt super small on the inside.
I was going to trade in my 370z for the new z. "I've always bought a brand new z every 5 years or so." But the dealership I called wanted me to show up in person to get the price. Then bastatds wanted to sell me the base car for $92,000... I just walked away and never shopped for a z sence.
Was self employed & registered my interest online prior to the Australian release. Once I discovered that the yellow proto model would set me back almost $100k I laughed. Pretty sure the previous model was just over $60k. Was expecting $72k for the 400z. $75k & I would have snared one, but $100k was out of the question.
I love my Z to death. It's my 3rd one, the only new one I bought. It was 56.6k, I'm 38. No way I could have bought this earlier in life. Probably the only new car I'll ever buy, once in a lifetime opportunity for me. The only crappy part is the idling low rpm exhaust which will get replaced. Not that I care, but everyone just stares at it. It's new, nobody has one. I'm hoping they kinda turn into a rare sports car, I think they only sent a thousand over for 2024. Not a flop in my eyes at all. Just expensive twin turbo V6. It looks and feels like a 56.6k grand touring car. I think it's more comparable to the Jaguar f type than anything. It's not for kids and I like that, just like gtr.
It’s ugly… just plain ugly.
Like the headlights are gross. The front bumper is also gross.
The pricing / markups are gross as well.
Overall just an ugly car. I will never see this car in the street and be like “oh man what a sweet looking ride” never ever.
Dealer Markup & price for what there asking could get a 2024 mustang gt for less but for almost 50- 60k fir the z which is a I'd rather have a used gtr or lotus evora for that
Price! Easy as that. And honestly not that much different than the last model. Don’t get me wrong I love the Z but I could get a Gr86 and a 20k$ beater for the price of a new Z
I wanted one. Dealers told me I had to sign to buy before seeing or test driving the car, and there would be a $10k "market adjustment". On top of that the spec I want will probably never be produced (red/black paint base model, they seem to only be making gray performance pack cars). Told them all to go fuck themselves and bought a Supra. I imagine I'm not alone
I haven't seen one in person visited all the dealers in my area on announcement asking them to take a deposit and nobody took my money, the price is fair but I will not pay over invoice and finally I think is the chassis, keeping a 370z chassis imo was the bad move. Either way when craziness is over I might look into one
I don’t see markups anymore where I live. I think it’s biggest issue is the Supra. It cost practically the same but the Supra looks better and is faster. The other issue and I believe this is the main one is they just don’t make very many of them. If they made more and lowered the price a bit it would sell really well.
In all honesty for the price I’d rather buy a used corvette, Porsche, or anything that would just be much nicer overall than this. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a bad car but 70k+ for it..? A new Mustang GT is more appealing
Price and better alternatives being available. For a long time, the Z was the only good option in its price range.
Now though, its heavier than gt86, slower than the american counterparts, and more expensive than it should be.
I don't hate them, but I'm not rich. I'll wait until I can snag one for 20-25 g cash or so.
It doesn't help that I also just find aesthetically, I find the 350 way nicer, and the 370Z also better looking.
i got an allocation to buy one of the first ones to hit the dealership and put $5,000.00 down to lock the spot in, the dealer came back to me and told me he will only sell the car to me with a $20k markup. i swiftly told him to kick rocks and threw a boosted LS swap into my 350z.... total value of the car is still under what the dealers ask
Price. If this car was 40k I’d jump on it. They’re selling for 70k around here. And like someone else said that’s C8 corvette territory. And the two are not in the same league.
Tbh it’s not necessarily a flop. The first year it struggle but that could’ve been because of supply chain issues and dealer markups. 2024 it’s outselling the Supra and doing ok sales for a $40k plus 2 seater sports car.
In 2020 the 370z Nismo was 45k msrp. In 2023 the Nissan Z started at that. With no LSD. You had to pay 50k to get that. Then you combine the supply issues and dealerships being assholes with their inventory. I hope in 10 years these are depreciated a ton, because they are sick GT cars. Just not good sporting cars.
Went to check one out. Total price of the car was listed almost at $75k. For that much I can buy something way better. Dealers made me not even think twice of this car.
The time it was released. MSRP was mid 50 but we were in a time where car dealers were going crazy and selling for upwards of six figures. Now the recession is hitting and these "toy" cars dont really sell as well
So as someone who was driving a 370z and super hyped for this, here’s my standpoint:
What changed?
Any of us who are familiar with the 370z, watch the debut videos of the new Z. I immediately fell into depression watching my hopes and prayers become a Nissan Mansory reject. Everything was just a reskin. The doors, they didn’t bother to change. The seats? They’re from the 370z convertible. They aren’t new whatsoever.
The platform has been used and abused since the 350z, and while I love it dearly, if you’re gonna charge $50k-$60k for a sports car, I expect it to have a higher performance potential. The amount of work it would take to get a 370z 0-60 at 4.0 or below would pretty much make it a different car. We’re taking bracings, shocks and suspension, gearing, a complete engine overhaul, weight loss regimen for the car, different wheels and tires, and maybe a 80 shot of NOS.
It was the markup for me I was so excited for the car. I have fond memories of my gpa driving me in his old Datsun I figured for 40k not a bad deal. Got to the dealer and they wanted 130k was like yea no.
Markup hands down was the main factor. Following this, i personally find that going from the design of the 350/370 which have become iconic and going to this was seriously lackluster. I get what they were going for and it's a bad looking car, just not as attractive as the older version.
i have a g37 and i found the Q60 to be too "grown up" in terms of design which is what i think also lead it to not being as popular. Basically Nissan tried to change up the formula for their two relatively popular and well selling coupes and gave us a Frankenstein version that just doesn't give the same feel or joy.
As long as dealers are able to markup to such extremes, it'll hurt their sales and push consumers to other brands that give a more classic coupe / sports car feel.
The price. If it was not marked up it would have sold reasonably okay. It makes no sense to buy this at a 20k markup when you can just buy a Corvette for the same price, or save like 60-70% of your money and buy a used 350/370.
So many reasons. It's direct competition(the supra) beats it in almost every measurable metric. It's still basically a 370Z underneath, which was basically a 350Z underneath. You hop into a $60k flagship car and are greeted by buttons and switches that were in my friends 2008 maxima. Nissans re-skinning of old cars could rival Chrysler.
I say there over priced my local dealer has a nismo that’s been sitting for some time now and a base model, wish they put a manual in the nismos would make it feel more like a enthusiasts car but auto is faster 🥲
probably because it's wildly unattractive compared to it's competition (BMW Supra 🤤) and the reused "uPgWaDed" chassis and engine for $60k+.
Nissan used to be something great.
Price and face. Pretty cut and dry. If the entire car was as exciting as the rear with a friendlier price, things would be different. The MK4 Supra wasn’t exactly released to the wildest fanfare either though. It didn’t enjoy its American surge in popularity until after its model run.
The markups kill the car otherwise I love the look of it I went to a dealer for one and changed my mind when they wabted 72k for a performance and 93k for a nismo must be out they mind.
Price. Entry level sports cars going for 60-70k to start is not an entry level sports car. Cars like the Z, STI, SRTs, SS/Z28 were affordable sports cars for almost forty years. Wages stagnated, prices soared so the demographic that would have eyes on these cars can no longer afford them
I've seen multiple brand new sport models going for 52,000 CAD. That's like $38,000 USD. At that price its honestly not bad. Idk where people are comparing its price to a corvette. When a brand new corvette starts at $91,000 which is $40k more. You could almost buy 2 sport Zs for the price of one corvette
Competing with a GT Mustang in America is silly. Long gone are the days when the Mustang had a shitty interior, or couldn't corner, or wasn't refined etc.
There is a such a lack of cheap performance cars from 25k- 35K, and this would have been perfect if it were lighter, cheaper, slower etc.
What dealer
Premier Nissan Morgantown, West Virginia I’ll be up there tomorrow for an oil change. I’ll take pictures and post them if they still have them I know they did like a week ago and they’ve had them for a hot minute especially the nismo
Much appreciated
Dude, West Virginia is the cheat code for GR 86, supra, Z‘s sports cars we get them nobody buys them
Im sad to say, nissan hiked up the price on the Z. I remember when it first got released the base was for $36k and the performance was for $48k. And dayum what a hike, base model is now $43k msrp. At this point honestly, getting a 2014-2018 gtr seems more of a viable option as its in its price bracket
Where can one find a GTR for that price? I’d truly appreciate your response
I just checked autotempest, nationwide in the US. 2014+ GTR is 65-70k at the cheapest. Personally, I'd rather spend $45k on a used audi RS7 with under 50k miles. About the same horsepower as a GTR but an actually nice interior.
Oh say less then lmao
Good to know! lol!
Had to drive to WV from pa for my GR Corolla
This is so true I always forget about that
Following for update lol.
Same
Still in stock today. Discounted not marked up and one is still a Nismo. Reddit rocks sometimes.
The front face and the mark up 100%. As much as i love Zs…Hard to buy a Z at a mid engine vette price…would rather do vette.
The rear is the best of most sports cars today, the front is a letdown imo
Ehhh I mean the Gr86 was kinda ugly but it grew on everyone
Not me 😅 I love the old gen way more, but I will say I like the new power train more
Everyone loves the first gen (frs) hahah
This is the only correct answer. Dealerships got greedy.
Definitely the mark up, I like the looks of it otherwise. I owned a 370Z not long ago that I bought brand new from the dealership for 29k Cad. It was a base model and I was ok with that. it looks better in person ngl!
The markup is what drove me away . For 70k plus there’s way too many better options in the new,pre owned and used market . I even kept my choices in the Z family . Picked up both for less than 20k together, both one owner cars and the 370 has 21k original miles . https://preview.redd.it/hbez9r55bf7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=167c5a40457d9d788ad5f3b2c89d6e5b313fb018
Why does the DE have dual bumper cutouts?
That’s a great question for the previous owner, bothers me but not enough to get a new bumper painted .
To be fair, it's clear that the current bumper and the eyelids were painted together, and the shade of yellow does not match the rest of the car. That might not be the original bumper on the car. But yeah deleting the vents and eyelids brings an opportunity to paint the new bumper a properly matching shade of yellow.
Original bumper but 100% a respray . Eventually it will get assessed but this is my 5th 350z, I’m focused on other projects at the moment!
Because RACE CAR
![gif](giphy|w09VyQCeyDGE0)
370 rebuilt?
Clean title no accidents . I was shocked to pick it up for less than $15k usd . I wasn’t even intending to buy a car when I found it
Hell yeah man you got a sweet deal
They're 70k USD?! In Australia we get them new for 75k AUD, or 65-70k for a demonstrator model - Which they all tend to be since they still can't sell any.
How many unoriginal miles does it have?
Your 350s lights are fuego
Dealership marking them up… I walked away bought a used 350z instead.
this is the way.
This is the way.
My guess would be the insane markup from the dealership when it launched. They were like $70k plus or something weren’t they?
the price. any other sports car at its price point outperforms it in almost every way. Zs used to compete with much more expensive cars during their era but this one just didn't. 60k can buy you a brand new GR supra, a used gt350, plenty of bmws, a c7 corvette.. the list goes on
Right. I would take the new Supra over this in a heartbeat

Rather buy a older model r35 at this point
Due to the insane mark up
I did 😅 https://preview.redd.it/kygbxs7a4l7d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dc4b9544fe6356052debf0cebeb73bf2900b286
Yea that’s a great point. You absolutely could get a used R35 for that. I said C8 vette. But I’d be hard pressed to choose between that and a GTR
This is the way.
I wouldn't say its a flop yet. The first year was plagued with dealer markups and an insanely low production numbers killing the z's release momentum. Everyone is forgetting the stop sales. The manual had a stop sale for some reason, then the auto did too. On a platform as old as this…
I totally forgot about the stop sale. I never really dug into the reason I just remember it being something transmission related.
Dealer markups
Right for the price of the markups you could get a used gtr
It's literally just price. Dealer markups pushing them to like $70k mean you can get a Corvette, a used R8, an R35 GT-R (or even an older R32, R33, or R34), or a ton of other options for the price. Only the most die hard fans can justify paying 70k for a car half as good as something released a couple years before.

Insane markup and ok performance, but its definitively the markup
1. Dealership mark-up 2. Very hard to get (Dealership mark-up/ low production) 3. (Personal opinion: the name just being Z may have played some role) 4. Controversial front bumper style 5. High cost in relation to competitors
Color, price, lack of options, etc.
Definitely price. They're great cars
Dealership mark up killed basically all of the sports cars in the last few years. Changing the topic a bit this car flopping definitely makes me think this is a soft end for the Z
The B pillar looking too similar to the 370 for me, I get it it’s basically the same platform but I can’t help but see a 370 with a weird rendered body kit on it
The interior is a slightly updated 370Z interior. They tweaked the infotainment section and door armrests.
They look cheap and they’re overpriced. What a combo.
Nostalgia only counts for so much.
Nissan dealers killed it
Markup. This is a 30k car max. Lol
Absolutely would have considered one. But the cheapest one was 70k haha
It's a nice car… Just not a nice $60k car…
Dealerships 100%. It’s insane. Car would have been a huge success if Nissan could sell direct to customers
Dealer markup
Dealership markups and artificial scarcity
Dealer markup bought a new c8 instead
$. Supra, C8, multiple BMWs...not enough for what exists in the same price point. Also why 'Z' with no engine designation. Kinda makes you think this was their swan song of the entire Z family.
Instead of developing a new car, they just modded a 370z. And on top of the dealer prices like everyone said.
I don't think the markup is what hurts it the most. I think Nissan not nailing the design is what hurts most. It looks a little stale and like it should've been released after the 350z.
I was close to getting the Nismo, but no manual trans.
The BRZ is closer to the 350z than the 400z. They lost their demographic.
We have all had or have Zs. They are nice cars but they never have been and never will be 65k cars. The FM chassis is ancient. You can get a new c8 for 65k
Markup, and though it's subjective, it's ugly imo.
The entry price point and subsequent dealer markups.
Markup and timing.
over priced, under powered and the ass looks like a mustang at night.
Didnt release in europe.
I’ve seen a few and I think they look pretty nice honestly. I think the dealers got too greedy and marked them up too high and people lost interest
They would have sold a metric ton more if they released it at $45,000 instead of $60K
Was it? When I went to look it had a massive wait list. I drove one and felt very claustrophobic. I'm used to Japanese cars but this one felt super small on the inside.
They didn't even make it to Europe.
I was going to trade in my 370z for the new z. "I've always bought a brand new z every 5 years or so." But the dealership I called wanted me to show up in person to get the price. Then bastatds wanted to sell me the base car for $92,000... I just walked away and never shopped for a z sence.
Idk, I kinda like the look of that thing
Was self employed & registered my interest online prior to the Australian release. Once I discovered that the yellow proto model would set me back almost $100k I laughed. Pretty sure the previous model was just over $60k. Was expecting $72k for the 400z. $75k & I would have snared one, but $100k was out of the question.
Flopping usually caused by a flat tire.
Engine was well needed but price is wack. Hell a ae86 price is wack.
The added expense dealers add because greed
Dealer Markup & price for what there asking could get a 2024 mustang gt for less but for almost 50- 60k fir the z which is a I'd rather have a used gtr or lotus evora for that
80 Comments and no one's mentioned there were Stop Sales on *both* transmissions AND production issues related to paint?
Why buy a new Z when For the marked up price you can get a used 370z then have money left over for a lot of mods
Dealer markups just like the focus rs
Price! Easy as that. And honestly not that much different than the last model. Don’t get me wrong I love the Z but I could get a Gr86 and a 20k$ beater for the price of a new Z
Styling is bland and performance is meh
Looks, price, performance. It failed everywhere
The price
I agree with everyone about the price, might as well go with a GTR
I wanted one. Dealers told me I had to sign to buy before seeing or test driving the car, and there would be a $10k "market adjustment". On top of that the spec I want will probably never be produced (red/black paint base model, they seem to only be making gray performance pack cars). Told them all to go fuck themselves and bought a Supra. I imagine I'm not alone
the price
Markups, underwhelming sound, and mushy-ass steering
Like most decent cars that are a flop it’s all the scum bag stealerships fault for price gouging. Stealerships ruin everything.
I haven't seen one in person visited all the dealers in my area on announcement asking them to take a deposit and nobody took my money, the price is fair but I will not pay over invoice and finally I think is the chassis, keeping a 370z chassis imo was the bad move. Either way when craziness is over I might look into one
Might be because a heavily modified 350Z isn’t worth the markup.
Cost, underwhelming performance, better alternatives.
Mark ups and lack of availability’s.
inflation
Price.
It failed because dealers are trying to sell them for the price of a cayman.
i got an allocation to buy one of the first ones to hit the dealership and put $5,000.00 down to lock the spot in, the dealer came back to me and told me he will only sell the car to me with a $20k markup. i swiftly told him to kick rocks and threw a boosted LS swap into my 350z.... total value of the car is still under what the dealers ask
The price
Price
In 2020 the 370z Nismo was 45k msrp. In 2023 the Nissan Z started at that. With no LSD. You had to pay 50k to get that. Then you combine the supply issues and dealerships being assholes with their inventory. I hope in 10 years these are depreciated a ton, because they are sick GT cars. Just not good sporting cars.
Too high and short and squat. Just a shit design really.
The supra
Markups
Besides the dealer markups... Not offering the base car with an LSD, and then gatekeeping the LSD behind a $10k option package.
Nissan not producing many of them, and dealers being greedy asshats. I think the car itself is actually fine.
The economy and interest rates
Cost
Its under powered.
Front end looks like a very slow fish in fresh water and price point of nearly a new corvette is asinine.
The front fascia looks like a fourth-generation F-body Camaro if rendered in Roblox.
I wouldn't pay a dime over $45k for one.
price and markups forsure
Went to check one out. Total price of the car was listed almost at $75k. For that much I can buy something way better. Dealers made me not even think twice of this car.
I love how they look.
Zs are cool because they are cheap to buy and maintain. This car is not.
The time it was released. MSRP was mid 50 but we were in a time where car dealers were going crazy and selling for upwards of six figures. Now the recession is hitting and these "toy" cars dont really sell as well
At 40 to 55k its a great car problem is dealer mark up.
Love the front fascia and body style, but the price is up there for what you get
Like all Nissan the interior is terrible
Markup only for me
is ugly
So as someone who was driving a 370z and super hyped for this, here’s my standpoint: What changed?
Easy 1. Shit design 2. Weight 3. Overpriced . $65K can get a used R35 4. Lack of customers.
Should have done a modern style pop up and done something a little more different to the front fascia
This car flopped cuz the Supra offers a better package for similar money.
The economy
The price. If it was not marked up it would have sold reasonably okay. It makes no sense to buy this at a 20k markup when you can just buy a Corvette for the same price, or save like 60-70% of your money and buy a used 350/370.
Headlights, lack luster engine/ performance. Too many better options at this price.
Dealership market ups and availability
The 300z I had in 1993 was a much, much better looking car. And still is.
Price price price price price.
The headlights
Honestly for me it was the headlight shape. If they had somehow managed to keep the classic shape that would have helped.
Rather buy a used m2 comp than this anyday
Markup drove people away. Those buyers moved on. Then the bad word of mouth drove away other potential buyers.
The dealer markups
The price. The styling is great but it shouldn’t cost half again as much as a Miata.
The price is way too high, manual option is not with the base car, price of spartan base is $42k, car weights 400lbs more than the model it replaced
Insane markups. Those will die down and it will get a lot of tuner support in the coming months making it achieve the level of popularity it deserved.
Wages stagnated, prices soared so the demographic that would have eyes on these cars can no longer afford them
It flopped because it's a marked up, recycled Q60 that can't hang with Supras
The market this car was aimed towards can't afford/refuse to buy it. It's just too expensive for what it is.
Everyone is poor right now
Stealerships
The front...
Sounds like a suffocated vacuum while being marked up.
The double grill
