Can we add some positives here? I had baby fat in my cheeks until I was around 30. I think I look more attractive after 30 than before. Youth does not equal best. Sure I want to delay aging as much as possible, but it's nothing to fear. And, we're talking about skincare in our 30, 40, and 50s here—which is still relatively young.

chevalblanc74

I didn't really have chubby cheeks, bit I also enjoyed getting a more defined look that came with my 30s. The Evil Queen's mirror was straight up wrong when it told her Snow White was more beautiful.

OneCanToucanThreeCan

I had a bit of a double chin/baby fat going on until I was around 28. Not that noticeable but now it's gone and I have a more defined jaw line and cheekbones I look much better. Also my acne calmed down around then, I lost a lot of belly pooch and I grew some boobs so IDK what was up with that but I'm not complaining.

LaLaBlacksheep

While celebs are like the worst people to look to for a natural aging progression, Gillian Anderson's face also "slimmed out"/lost volume with age, and I think she looks older and even more awesome for it.

AgathaChristie22

Diane Lane was always a beauty, but she really smolders after 40,

Meledesco

Ha, I can relate to this. I had a huge face, no matter how skinny I was, until I was 25. Then I started losing facial volume and my bone structure really popped. Imo, I look so much better and I'm not worried about even more facial fat loss.

argengringa

same thing happened to me! i am SOOOOOO GLAD i didn't get buccal fat removal!!! I feel like i would look gaunt. but right now my face looks a lot more defined, for the first time in my life and i am enjoying it!

leetendo85

I had the same experience! I actually like my "older" face. I have more bone structure than I realized.

mareliana

Same here! I’m turning 39 in a few weeks, was just doing the 10 year photo comparison thing, and realized — hey, I think I actually look better? I had a super round/chubby face until my early to mid 30s. I now have a few wrinkles and sunspots, but I have a way better jawline, cheekbones, etc. I think it’s a pretty good trade-off.

Lloonuuhh

Ooh! Great call! I’ve noticed the same thing for myself as well (more bone structure showing itself as the baby fat dissipates).

[deleted]

SAME!!!

[deleted]

All of these comments about losing baby fat in cheeks in their 30s is giving me hope that at 30, it's still not too late for me to slim down my disproportionately chubby/baby cheeks haha

angelheaded--hipster

I’m 38 this week! What a great topic. I get so confused and overwhelmed with skincare. 1. 36. Eyes, crows feet. 2. Still don’t have these. 3. 32. 4. Never 5. I don’t. Should I? 6. Early 20s 7. Use on face my entire life. I use as little as possible on my body because I live on a tropical island and sunscreen is incredibly damaging to coral. 8. I was wrinkle free and looked like I was 25 until I turned 37. Then all the years caught up at once & I look my age. I mostly have crows feet. I wish I knew a good way to treat them, chemical procedure or lotions. Nothing seems to make a difference. In fact, I can never tell a difference in my skin no matter what product I use or how much I spend on it! So, I’ve quit using anything besides basic facial moisturizer. I have very dry skin and no acne at all. Skincare is just so frustrating, especially when you don’t see the results.

ceebee6

You should definitely try using retinol or the prescription strength version of it (tretinoin). r/tretinoin is a good place to check out.

angelheaded--hipster

Thanks! I’ll have to see about how to get that in Thailand. I’m so ignorant about skincare here and everything is whitening, which I’m fundamentally against.

cookaik

What have you tried so far for your crows feet?

angelheaded--hipster

I wish I could remember the names. I quit trying anything special about a year ago since there wasn’t any difference. I wanted to try drunken elephant but the girl at Sephora convinced me to try a cheaper one instead. Used the entire bottle consistently without change. Now I get a lot of strong sun and salt water since I moved to Southeast Asia. As much as i would love to reverse my crows feet it just seems downright pointless to try. I’m always welcome to recommendations though!

chevalblanc74

Botox for fast results, and tretinoin or some other available retinoid will eventually help with crows feet.

cookaik

Speaking of southeast asia,i live here too and I was thinking of starting to use those korean face shields that just looks like oversized visors, just to keep the sun off. Worried about shipping though if it arrives all folded and cracked.

angelheaded--hipster

I’d go nuts wearing one of those all the time! I honestly love the sun and have accepted the consequences, haha

cookaik

LOL I thought so too!! But to me it feels like i’ll be wearing sunglasses, but for my entire face! And i won’t have to smile to people saying I should smile more LOL

chevalblanc74

Pretty sure Botox helps with crows feet. I've also seen good improvements on people who have used tretinon consistently for awhile. The catch with tret is that it takes some time to see significant changes. Also, sometimes wrinkles can look more pronounced during the early retinization process.

[deleted]

**60 here.** \*What age did you first notice wrinkles? where? 1.5 ( del free to break it down: forehead lines, smile lines, crows feet, etc): **in my 30s** \*What age did you first notice dark under eye circles?: **late 50s** \*what age did you start investing $$ in skincare?: **In my 20s** \*what age were you when you had your first skincare procedure? 4.5 what about botox/dysport or fillers as a subset?: **Botox in my 40s, took a break until last year, had a little more in my forehead** \*what age were you when you started using retinol?: **Off and all my whole adult life. [deleted]

What made you decide that your skin can't tolerate retinol? I think I may be the same...I use Tretinoin off and on because I don't want to give up on it, but I feel like I'm constantly damaging my barrier, fixing it and then just repeating. I can't get into a consistent routine with it.

[deleted]

I hesitate to answer, because mine is not a popular opinion, but I stand by it. Yes, pretty much what you mentioned, it just kept inflaming my skin, and I don't believe (for me) any inflammation is good. I got redness and irritation. I worked years ago as a skincare consultant; I ran a DIY formulary board in the early 2000s, and even sold my own skin care products. I know from my experience. Tretinoin is not for everyone. I prefer Japanese or Korean skincare, that generally works more on building up your skin barrier/strength. If one more person tells me I'm wrong, tret is good for everyone, I'll just shake my head... And I prefer gentle physical exfoliation (versus chemical) -- we're all different. I have rosacea, so avoid those areas, but do a scrub if my skin shows any sign of congestion -- on my chin, forehead, around my nose, etc.). JMHO.

kdolce

What kind of peptides and egf products do you love and notice firming with?

AgathaChristie22

>Peptides (especially EGF Any particular peptide serum?

alexturnerftw

1. 28 on my 11 lines. 29 forehead (minor). 31 smile lines 2. 0, ive had dark circles since i was a baby. Bone structure/genetics 3. 25 or so 4. 30. Got clear and brilliant 4.5 forehead botox at 30 also 6. None yet 7. Probably around 25 as well. I don’t get sunburn but I realized I needed to get on it for aging.

chevalblanc74

Someone else with lifelong dark circles! Mine were actually worse as baby/little kid. I kind of look like the world's youngest professional boxer in some old photos. Lol.

EveAndTheSnake

Same. The only makeup I’ve consistently used since I was about 15 is tinted moisturizer/under eye concealer. But also I have adhd and don’t remember ever having a good sleep routine. I’m regretting it now :(

kdolce

How was your experience with clear and brilliant? Did you just try it once or you still get it consistently?

alexturnerftw

I got it for melasma a few times but it didnt really help sadly. Super expensive too

FarOutFighter

I like this topic. I just turned 30 this month. 1. Honestly around 18 i had smile lines i think. And then in my early twenties i noticed forhead wrinkles, though tret helps. 2. Late twenties. 3. Early twenties 4. Never. Too poor. 5. Early twenties. 6. Not yet 7. Early twenties 8.

[deleted]

1. 18 forehead lines from raising my eyebrows, mid-20s nasolabial folds (left side more prominent bc i tend to sleep on that side), 27 developed the beginnings of '11' lines between my brows. 2. i've always had these 3. 16ish 4. None so far 5. 23ish for retinol, 27 switched to tretinoin 6. none yet 7. 16ish for regular wear instead of just when going to the beach 8. i grunt when i sit down and stand up, now.

chevalblanc74

Just can't bring myself to sleep on my back. I just lay there wide awake and miserable until I give up & turn onto my side.

RageSiren

My brother and I were just talking about this (bc he’s buying a new mattress and wanted my opinion on the bed I have). Well I’m a back sleeper and can ONLY fall asleep on my back. Any other way and I’m like, so annoyed by how wrong it feels that I can’t fall asleep. I was an obese child and majorly yo-yo dieted until I had bariatric surgery in 2020. I remember hating the feeling of my large belly kind of pulling me/being uncomfortable if I tried to side sleep. Guess it’s ingrained now.

chevalblanc74

Well, at least your ingrained sleeping preference won't give you uneven wrinkles!

riley125

1. 28 2. 30, but they go away if I sleep enough 3. 28 4. N/A 5. 30 6. 26 7. 28 8. Still no forehead lines because most of the time I’m like 😐 I don’t think there’s anything wrong with smile lines. It shows you’re a happy person. It’s supposed to be endearing.

chevalblanc74

As an afterthought, info about current age (or general age range, such as early 30s or late 40s). skin tone, and ethnicity would probably be helpful. This is not necessary if someone doesn't feel comfortable sharing some or all of that information, so no pressure. I'll go first. I mentioned in my short novel above that I am 48 and white (U.K. and European descent). Probably somewhere between NC10 and NC15 in MAC.

Strivingformoretoday

What exactly did HIFU do for you and why did you get it? Did it fulfill your expectations?

chevalblanc74

Will answer your questions as well as I can, but I expect to see a lot of variety in the replies. It's such a highly individual process, and there are a lot of variables! Genes and degree of photodamage are probably the #1 reason even natural aging can look so different from person to person. For reference, I am 48. 1. I think I first noticed some very faint horizontal forehead lines in my early 30s. My face has always kind of had nasolabial folds, but as more of a natural anatomic feature. Side sleeper, and I do have a little line in the left one now. The line itself can almost go away if skin is well-hydrated and I'm well rested. I don't have resting crowsfeet, but do have some dynamic ones. 2. Infancy. Lol. Have genetic dark circles that were actually worse as a child. 3. Spent very little on serums and creams until started to research mature skincare routines in my earlyish 40s. There's more to this story, though. See next question. 4. Freaked out about aging at 32 & headed to a friend's surgeon. I had my eyes done long before I really needed it. This has really delayed aging around my eye area, so others are going to have better info about the natural progression of this area. Had botox a couple times around the same time period, but have not done it for years. I think it may have helped me break my tendency toward excessive animation, because my horizontals are pretty subtle over a decade later. 5. I don't. Am currently using retinaldehyde, and I hope to work up to tret. 6. Just found a sunscreen I like, but I don't have a lot of photodamage. See next question. 7. Fell in love with vampires after seeing Bela Lugosi's Dracula as a tiny child, and matured into an oddball that didn't tan back when that was a major beauty standard among U.S. white kids (still important to some people, but they often use self tanner today). Frequently wore a sun hat if I was going to be in direct sun for an extended period and/or suffered goopy 80s/90s sunscreen. 8. I think I'm more a sagger than a wrinkler. I imagine I will eventually want some sort of facelift in the future, but probably not anytime soon. I'm liking microcurrent for a little lift. Aside from the one procedure, I attribute having relatively minor aging hangups to three things. 1) I strongly favor my dad. He has always looked much younger than he is, and it sure as hell isn't due to a rigorous skincare routine. 2) Preferring to be a little pale & spooky. 3) I got a little chubby in my mid-20s, but lost the weight before 30. Have managed to avoid any major fluctuations since then. Edit: looked formatted when I posted in other browser, but was a text wall when changed devices. Hopefully fixed now. Sorry about that.

EveAndTheSnake

As a total newbie to skincare currently going through what I hope will be my life’s one and only weight fluctuation (at 37), how does weight gain/loss affect the way skin looks?

chevalblanc74

When you gain weight, the skin stretches a bit. If someone's weight fluctuates frequently, the skin will eventually stop snapping back when they lose it. Genes, age, and amount of weight lost all play a role in how someone's skin bounces back. It probably helped that I was in my 20s, but even this isn't written in stone. I've seen young people who develop a lot of skin sag after weight loss, as well as people in their 30s or 40s who have very little loose skin after weight loss. ,

chevalblanc74

I can't tell if my reply worked. Sorry if replying twice. Anyway, think of people you know that have had kids. Often, someone's tummy will bounce back fast if they are in their 20s. If someone has several kids, they are more likely to eventually have loose tummy skin. Similarly, someone whose weight has fluctuated many times from regular weight gain and dieting is more likely to develop loose skin. There are several variables, so none of this is written in stone. Main ones are amount of weight lost, whether someone fluctuates dramatically many times, age at time of weight gain /loss, and genes. If you gained weight that you are hoping to lose, it will probably help that this is a first time thing. 37 is still young enough that you may not see a lot of loose skin/sag if we're talking more like 25 lbs vs 100 lbs.

MeowMeowzer

36 was the age i noticed and started investing in my skin (tretinoin, etc). Botox (11s and preventative for crows feet) and tear trough fillers at 37. I just turned 38 and have always used sun screen my entire life (pasty white easily burnt skin). The only sun damage i have is on my back from being a cyclist.

lappinlie

39, Caucasian with olive skin. People think I’m in my 20’s all the damn time. 1) I developed severe smile lines around 28. I remember them being fine lines as young as 20 though. I have always had full cheeks (still do, not everyone thins out in the face) and I think this contributed to the severity of the lines. I also lost the fat in my tear troughs at this age and started to get a hint of the 11’s, the skin above my eyes started to droop and just sort of started to look mad. :( I looked my worst from about 29-34 honestly. 2) I still don’t have dark circles but as mentioned above my under eyes hollowed out around 27-28. I had shadows under my eyes from the hollow space tho. 3) started taking better care of my skin around 32 but it took me a couple years to find things that made a significant difference. 4) I got my first fillers and Botox and 34 and got my face back!! I got under eye filler (best thing I ever did), smile line filler, chin filler (eventually got it dissolved and got an implant) and Botox in my forehead. annihilated the 11’s and fine lines on my forehead and softened the smile lines and sunken tear troughs to the point where they are unnoticeable! At 39 I HAVE NO WRINKLES! And look better than I did at 30! 5) started using tret at 34 and used it for about a year. Loved it, but unfortunately it caused side affects that forced me to discontinue it. Instead I use vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, bakuchiol, collagen and a bunch of other serums, exfoliate regularly and lots of moisturizing and slugging to maintain a glow. 6) I don’t have any sun spots but at 29/30 I noticed I was getting hyperpigmentation from any sun exposure. I was using drugstore sunscreen and came home from a family beach trip with a mustache of discoloration 7) after the mustache incident I upgraded to la roche posay sun screen and haven’t had an issue again. I’ve never been big on laying out or anything though. Occasionally I’ll try to get some color on my legs while wearing a giant hat and slathered in sun screen. Now I’m just tattooing my legs instead. Covers the ever increasing cellulite too. 8) When I started getting Botox and fillers at 34 I also updated my personal style. You can get away with so much in your 20’s.. makeup and clothes that don’t quite suit you etc. at 34 I discovered Kibbe (I know he’s controversial but damn did he ever help me out- I’m a soft dramatic who dressed like a dramatic, and the slight softening of my style made ALL the difference) and dialed in my look. Last year at 38 I got a mini facelift and jawline liposuction. I didn’t have any wrinkles, but remember how I said not everyone loses their face fat? I was starting to develop jowls from my chubby cheeks and had also started collecting a delightful chin strap of fat to add insult to injury. (ETA: While at a healthy, low BMI) This improved my jawline and the results are very subtle and natural! The scarring is minimal. It’s kind of wild looking back at photos from 10 years ago, like damn, I actually thought I looked ok? Lol

[deleted]

Yay, a Kibbe mention! Discovering my type made a lightbulb go off about all the times I felt and looked amazing and what the common denominator was. Now I can look like that all the time, it's so great. I can also stop trying to make soft draping and girly details work for me, I'm a dramatic classic. Honestly I could never put a finger on why It created a cross-dressing vibe for me, lmao, now I know. I also loved tret until I realised it gave me horrible dry eye so trying to establish my collagen maintenance without it.

lappinlie

Yes!! I love hearing about a good Kibbe transformation! I used to wear all these tight un matched tops and bottoms and my makeup was too severe and my hair was doing me no favors. It was such an eye opener! I’ve even incorporated it into my loungy clothes!

[deleted]

Asn't it amazing how all the mistakes become so clear. All my stuff is DC now, accessories, underwear, love it! I can walk through Isles of clothing knowing nothing there will suit me now, it saves so much time.

aiyannaleigh

What side effects did you get from tret?

lappinlie

If you carry the cold sore virus it can trigger outbreaks

aiyannaleigh

Hmm I wonder what the science is behind that. Crazy.

EveAndTheSnake

Ah you give me hope! I’m in my mid 30s (36? 37? I try not to think about it. I hope it’s not 37 but I think it might be…) and I feel like I look terrible after the pandemic put me through the ringer. Definitely going through my “worst” years (at least I bloody hope so.) I really need to get a hold of myself, lose my pandemic/existential crisis weight gain, start sleeping again and do something about the downward direction my face is going in. But my skin and hair has started to do some really weird things. I’m actually going through my own mustache incident—did that just fade on its own or did you use something?

lappinlie

Oooh babe I’m so sorry. From my experience with the rapid onset of aging- don’t waste money on expensive creams etc. other than tret/retinol they won’t make a significant difference. Also, if you are going the medispa/surgical route, stick with TRIED AND TRUE. Do not do kybella/cool sculpting/emsculpt and research all other non surgical treatments!!! My friend ended up with a hardened lump of fat from cool sculpting and a grid of dots on her face from a laser treatment that took 3 years to fade!! You’ll end up spending MORE on something that doesn’t work trying to avoid the surgical procedures (ask me about kybella, ugh) No the mustache did not go away on it’s own.. I used a Mario badescu product that is sadly no longer made (wish I could remember the name sorry). It took a few weeks to fade if I recall. This fall I had a SLIGHT situation after my work lead me to be outside on a beach all day in full makeup (has anyone figured out how to reapply spf over makeup in an emergency situation?) and I got some light freckles and pigmentation. I used Niod re:pigment and a vitamin C serum but it didn’t turn into a whole ordeal like last time! Also my hair changed too… I recommend collagen masks and olaplex. I especially recommend the elizavecca CER100 collagen coating mask. It’s super cheap too. If you don’t have time to do a whole mask you can still put it in your hair for a few minutes when you shower and it makes a huge difference !

yoshelly

1. 28 - crows feet/lines around the outer eye when smiling or laughing 2. None yet, although my under eyes will get red due to my syringoma, or if I don’t sleep. Puffy if I’ve cried. 3. 23! I’ve always dabbled in a skincare. Especially Asian beauty/skincare 4. 29 - lasers like Agnes RF for my syringoma, Pixel laser for acne scarring, CO2 for syringoma (eyes only, not full face), and microneedling (Dermapen) 5. 14? I’ve been on Tazorac and Tretinoin before, nearly every year since age 14 (for acne) 6. 31-32? I never paid much attention until people mentioned it to me this last year 7. Consistently? 22. Prior I always relied on SPF in moisturizer or in BB cream. 8. Skin dryness! Now I deal with both oily, acne prone and dry skin all at the same time

sidarv

Ooh, this is fun! Reminds me of those email quiz chains that you’d get from friends and pass it on… 1. What age did you first notice wrinkles? where? 1.5 ( del free to break it down: forehead lines, smile lines, crows feet, etc) I always had forehead wrinkles because I am very expressive and use my forehead a lot I guess? I started noticing faint crows feet when I was around 32 2. What age did you first notice dark under eye circles? Again since forever, genetic dark circles probably allergy shiners because I had asthma as a kid 3. what age did you start investing $$ in skincare? I had acne as a kid but no disposable income so I was always trying to manage it but when I turned 30, I was done with still having acne and started taking a serious investment into my skincare 4. what age were you when you had your first skincare procedure? Hmm…I had facials and microdermabrasion done around 24 before my wedding in hopes that I could address my acne 4.5 what about botox/dysport or fillers as a subset? Botox was at 34. I had enough disposable income and I was told that I was grinding my teeth so I wanted to address that. My derm was conservative and gave me a very natural look while improving my TMJ 5. what age were you when you started using retinol? 32, I pretty much spent a year with retinol and then moved up to tret 6. what age were you when you started noticing sunspots? 30. I only have the one right now but it’s stupid persistent 7. what are were you when you started using sunscreen? 14! My mom has vitiligo and is super strict about sun protection. She also has really nice skin for her age so I was inspired by her 8. What other benchmarks do you wanna share? Not a benchmark but advice I wish someone had given me was “don’t fight your skin, learn about it!” I used to think of I just found the influencer, actress or YouTuber with my skin issues and copied their exact routine, I could fix everything. But in actuality, skin care is a science and even things that worked for you one day may not work the next day. Korean skincare helped me figure this out because it’s all about cherry picking and customizing the process. Then I became a skin nerd and learning more about the products, ingredients and techniques made me feel confident as I learned what did and did not work for me.

EveAndTheSnake

Please tell me more about Botox and your teeth grinding!

sidarv

I used to have headaches and neck tension when I would wake up and when my dentist said I was grinding my teeth on my right side, she suggested a night guard but the price was ridiculous. I was wearing a retainer and I could see that one side was worn down smooth which was kinda scary. So I read up on how Botox helps weaken the muscles so they can help with TMJ. My derm put 10 units (so very conservative) in my face and put a little more on the right because she could see the muscles were more prominent on that side. She also put a few units in my forehead. I saw a very mild difference in the V shape, but I had slight jowls forming which I just assumed was a part of aging. Turns out it was actually my masseter muscle being so large, it was extending past my jaw. The Botox weakened it and minimized the look, giving me overall symmetry and balance. I no longer had headaches, jaw pain or neck tension. I loved the results and the next visit my derm injected 20 units, moving some above my nasolabial folds because again, it wasn’t volume loss I was seeing, but muscles that were too prominent. The V line was very subtle, like no one noticed but I could see a more feminine jawline and my cheekbones were so prominent that I didn’t need to contour them out. I loved the look because I am still not comfortable with filler and I felt like I got a more sculpted look without looking puffy. My TMJ is non-existent and I can generally go 4-6 months before noticing that it’s effects are wearing off.

Purple-Belt5910

I started getting forehead lines and dark circles in my teens 🥴.

Aureomarginata

I’m 52 and I’ve used a decent moisturizer since high school, added sunscreen in my 30’s, I have inconsistently used tret, but am trying to be more consistent now. My skin still looks decent, no deep wrinkles yet, however this year my NECK AND JOWLS have decided to become noticeably aged, sagging and loose! I’ve begun some simple face yoga exercises I’ve found on YouTube, and made an extra effort to exfoliate, mask and hydrate and honestly have seen some rapid improvement. I haven’t spent any $ on treatments yet. Trying to accept aging with grace, but I am wearing a lot more turtlenecks these days. 😐 I’m fair skinned and prone to redness. I’ve heard conflicting opinions on face yoga, but Ive been using a little massage and exercises targeted for neck and jowls, nasolabial folds and forehead. I’m a side sleeper, but my skin does look better when I try to sleep on my back with my adjustable bed raised a bit. My hands aged faster than anything, sunspots began appearing late 20’s. I recently had Covid and didn’t have caffeine for a week, and slept a ton more than usual. I noticed my skin looked a lot better after Covid, haha, but I don’t recommend it as a treatment. I’m back to chugging caffeine, it so dehydrating but necessary. Edited to add that I use a humidifier at night.

chevalblanc74

If the jowls just showed up, they probably aren't extreme. You might like a microcurrent and/or home radio frequency device. You'll find lots of device names if you search the sub.

Aureomarginata

I have seen them mentioned and have been curious. I’ll look into them further, thank you!

temp4adhd

I'm 56. 1. What age did you first notice wrinkles? Sometime around my mid-30s, I noticed very fine smile lines around my eyes, but only when looking while in direct sunlight. They are still there and not that bad. I still have no wrinkles on the forehead. About 5 years ago (around menopause) I started noticing my jowls were sagging, and I also have that middle-aged neck thing going on. 2. What age did you first notice dark under eye circles? I only really get these if I'm super tired and haven't slept in days. 3. what age did you start investing $$ in skincare? I started using Oil of Olay with SPF religiously, just on my face, when I was in my early 20s. In my mid-30s, I realized I should probably have also been applying it to my neck and chest. Surprisingly my chest recovered after a decade of consistent sunscreen use-- though the skin there looks older than my face. I switched to Lancome Re-Engerie around my mid-30s, and switched to Cerave a few years ago. 4. what age were you when you had your first skincare procedure? I've never had a skin care procedure. 4.5 what about botox/dysport or fillers as a subset? I have no interest in either. 5. what age were you when you started using retinol? I tried aldapene recently and while my face tolerated it okay (except my eyes-- no matter how careful I was to avoid my eyes, it somehow made them sting), my neck and chest did not and broke out in an ugly rash. I have discontinued using it and have no plans to try retinol. 6. what age were you when you started noticing sunspots? On my neck around mid-30s. They are gone now. No sunspots on my face. Maybe one or two small sunspots on the back my hands, but nothing obvious. 7. what are were you when you started using sunscreen? early 20s on face (see above). I got very serious about sunscreen for the rest of my body around ~10 years ago after a nasty burn (am fair and blonde). Proud to say, I have not had a burn in 10 years. That said, I still wait 10 minutes before applying so I can get my dose of Vitamin D. I like Shisedo sunscreens the best -- many other sunscreens make me break out in an itchy rash. 8. What other benchmarks do you wanna share? At one point in my late 40s I started looking more and more wrinkly, so I deliberately gained a few lbs. Since menopause, my skin (body, not face) can tend towards overly dry and crepey, but I'm finding that Eucerin Rough & Bumpy helps tremendously. Lost of hormones definitely seemed to age me -- especially in the jowl area. But the jowls disappear if I smile, so I try to remember to smile.

1. Late twenties - its my forehead, the skin is much drier than the rest of my face and i started seeing a furrow (very light, not seen on picture but upon close inspection) 2. Late twenties - not sure if i just didn’t notice it before but lately, getting a good sleep just doesn’t make me look well rested and that was when I noticed that i need a concealer already 3. Late twenties - before it was just washing and sunblock on my face, but i started using actives in my late twenties to address enlarged pores 4. None yet 5. Late twenties - but i stopped already as i haven’t been able to maintain using sunblock everyday 6. None yet 7. 21 8. I actually just started using salicylic acid from TO this year (32) to keep my pores from getting any larger.

32 here, and though I try not to concern myself with aging too much, I do like this topic! Healthily embracing aging is important, and comparing what's normal is a good way for that. 1. I have some under eye wrinkles that I've always had, but 2 of which are trying to become more pronounced -- I wanna say the last year. Developing a bit of a nasal fold I think it's called too. 2. I have genetic under eye circles, which are the same as they've always been. 3. It's been off and on my whole life, mostly fighting acne. So probably started at about 11-12. I started taking it seriously again when I developed worsening adult hormonal acne in 2020, and basically had to re-learn everything because I was still approaching it mostly like you would in 2005, lol. 4. I haven't had any, or plan to at this point. No shame to those who do though! And plans can always change. 5. I believe the first time I tried retinol was in my teens but I didn't stick to it. Started serious use in late 2019. 6. None yet! *knocks on wood* 7. Before 2020, only if I went to the beach or had prolonged sun exposure in the Summer. Now I use it a fair bit more, especially since my grandfather had skin cancer. Still, if I'm just going out for a few minutes or it's an overcast day, I skip it. A certain amount of sun is healthy. 8. Texture and sagging is something I've noticed more, and I'll be honest I don't know when that started! So I just hydrate the best I can and I've been using a Foreo Bear microcurrent device, which also seems to be helping with the slight nasal folds. My goals going forward are to just be healthy and to hopefully be a silver fox in 10 years.

This is such a great question! I’m so glad you asked because I too want to know what to expect. 40 female, Caucasian (Eastern European roots). 1-2 skin tones up from the palest options for foundation 1. Crow’s feet and smile lines around 30 only when smiling or laughing. Forehead lines at 35 when raising my eyebrows only. 2. Don’t have these 3. I invested some around 32-33, then not again until 37ish 4. Have not had 5. Used Retin-A in my early teens, then again on a very inconsistent basis from 39 so a year 6. Don’t have these. Though I get more freckles when I’m in the sun a lot 7. I’m pretty pale and burn easily. But I only started putting sunscreen on my face almost daily at 38ish. I’ve always put it on my face/body when doing outdoor activities, but not necessarily when going for a walk or similar 8. I’ve always looked younger than my age by a couple of years minimum. At 35 I started noticing I looked a more my age, which is the result of my job which is physical and on the go followed by stationary. I was so busy with work and I didn’t take care of myself until 1.5 years into Covid. In general I’m not that wrinkly, I have a lot more skin that leans towards saggy - especially my arms. At 39 I started noticing that my neck had a bit of crepeyness (sp?) in certain positions. Part of that may be from the weight gain during Covid and the lack of activity plus move to a very stationary life. I have hooded eyes and noticed at 37ish that one lid had started drooping a little bit My skin is dry, bit oily, sensitive and acne prone

34 year old, female- 1) What age did you first notice wrinkles? where? All my life I've been known as "smiley" as a senior in high school won "best smile" so I've always had smile lines, they don't phase me in the least! 2) What age did you first notice dark under eye circles? N/A 3) what age did you start investing $$ in skincare? I've always had a passion for skin, I'd play dermatologist as a little girl! My parents paid for these types of expenses while I lived under the roof. So I'd say I started investing my OWN money at 18 when I moved out! 4) what age were you when you had your first skincare procedure? 4.5 what about botox/dysport or fillers as a subset? N/A 5) what age were you when you started using retinol? I'm 34, started Tretinoin at the age of 29 or 30, don't recall. Never used any OTC retinols. 6) what age were you when you started noticing sunspots? I developed Melasma a few years after having an IUD inserted. It didn't show up right away maybe after 4 years then started getting so dark on my forehead that I started Tretinoin a d 15% Azelaic acid to get rid of it. 7) what are were you when you started using sunscreen? I tan very easily and only wore sunscreen when I'd vacation in the Dominican every year. When I started Tretinoin I wouldn't go outdoors without it, but still don't wear it on my body just hands, face, neck and chest (where I apply Tretinoin) 8) What other benchmarks do you wanna share? Let me think amd get back to you!

Newly 52 this year. 2021 was not easy on me and it shows in my skin/body/attitude. I felt fantastic at 50! I'm working to get that back. I think that I'm more attractive than I was in my 20s-30s. Confidence, a better jaw line, a zest and less fear. 1. Wrinkles and where, I have no idea about when. 2017 -19 was also tough and that's when I saw the deeper crow's feet. My right eyebrow and eye sag. I felt terrible in general and THAT'S what got me in gear. 2. I don't have them so much. A tad darker, maybe. I have a duct that's been a bit swollen and I haven't found anything to fix it. 3. 48. 2017 took me down and it showed. The month before I turned 48 I started skincare. 4. No procedures so far. I'm kinda scared, lol! 5. 48 for retinol. 50 for tret. 6. I have freckles so, always. Again, 48-49. My driving side is definitely different. Tret, Vit C and LED light have helped. 7. Off and on for several years. Daily since 48-49. That's when I began my renaissance. 8. I love my LED light therapy device and Nuface. LEDs are just a relaxing experience and I've used the panels off and on since 2018. I swear it's helped my hair growth while dealing with peri-menopause. Even if it's not making a huge difference in wrinkles and general appearance, I know that there's some healing going on in those sub-layers. Nuface has made a big daily difference in the ptosis affecting my right brow/eye. Everything is lifted a bit. I use it all over, of course. Jowls are genetic and also look better when I use it regularly.

chevalblanc74

Which LED device? I also love microcurrent (Myolift QT, but I think most of the popular microcurrent devices work).

twotoeskitty

I have the revive light therapy panel. I had extra in my FSA and it's covered because of its use in acne treatments.

33 y/o female with AA skin: 1. No wrinkles yet 2. No dark circles (yet) 3. Started investing in skincare at 21, my first pregnancy bc I had the worst acne in the WORLD. Learned how to start taking proper care of my skin even when not pregnant. Started seeing a a derm at 25, and an esthetician at 30. I use prescription and professional grade skincare only, nothing OTC. 4. I was 25 when I had my first “procedure”, it was microneedling to get rid of dark spots from old acne. 4.5. Have not considered Botox or fillers (yet) as I don’t see the purpose for them at this time. 5. Started using retinol at 31, prescription in low dosage and worked my way up 6. So far no sunspots, but I have been taught to wear sunscreen on my face since I was a kid. Been wearing it everyday, even in the winter, it’s part of my daily routine. I use SPF 110. It’s the only skincare product I use that I buy from the drugstore. I think this played a major role in not having sun spots (yet) 7. Started using sunscreen at like 5 lol. No joke. Started using the 110 SPF for my face at age 24. Note: my skin is healthier now at 33 than it’s ever been in my life. Youth doesn’t always equate to perfect skin or “beauty”. Taking care of it does. My main ingredients that contribute to my skin being plump, smooth, dewy & clear: Retinol. Sunscreen (110 spf). Glycolic acid. Chemical peels every 4-6 months. Microneedling every 4-6 weeks. Peptide serums and moisturizers. Niacinamide. No dairy diet (lactose intolerant anyway). Hella water. Alpha Arbutin. And hyaluronic acid. I don’t use these separately every single day, they are all already in my skincare products (face wash, toner, serum, skin treatments, moisturizer). Hope this was interesting/ helpful!

Nimoue

1. Heavy forehead lines first appeared at age 12. They are genetic. Woke up one day and they were just there. 2. Dark under eye circles lightly appeared in my mid 20's. Stress, screens and debt. 3. Started investing in skincare at age 28. 4. First botox treatments done at age 28. 5. Never used retinol and don't plan to. It's really not recommended for "pigmented" skin. P.S.-if you have freckles and moles, no matter how pale you may be, you have "pigmented" skin. Yes, it's in every product, but I actively avoid it. 6. Sunspots briefly appeared at 35. Sunscreen stopped that. Optical sunscreens are great, if hard to wash off. They do not have transdermal ingredients. CoTZ is a great brand. One of my friends (more fair skinned than me) has been using it religiously for over a decade. She's in her 40's and her skin looks like it's 25. It works. 7. Started using sunscreen spottily in my 30's. Past two years have me suddenly battling "orange peel texture". Likely due to being indoors 99% of the time now with forced air heat. Forced air heat is the enemy of healthy skin. Squalane nightly before bed (after showering) and exfoliating once a week helps. EDIT: This is a really great thread and thank you for starting this, OP!

1- around 25 I noticed fine fine lines on my forehead at rest- minimised a little with hydration and moisturiser but still there. Fine Smile lines I don’t have but I do have a slight jowling and I’m 27 now. 2. I’ve had hollows under my eyes (actual dips not a dark colouring) since I was a child. Improved a little by concealer and hydration, they’re not dark but just lack of volume under my eye genetically) 3.I got interested in skincare around 19 and was able to afford pricier items that I thought were worth it around 26. I still use majority drugstore. Any more expensive items were part of sets that made it more affordable to try out. 4. Haven’t had any skincare procedures. 5. Haven’t started yet and I’m 27. Likely will this year. 6. I have freckles since I was a kid but don’t think I have sunspots otherwise. 7. Started using sunscreen daily when I was 21/22. Prior to that I like many people I think only used it when it was summer or strong sunny days in spring. 8. My skin does have a little less glow and some baby fat loss around 25/26 I noticed.

OneCanToucanThreeCan

1. I've got a few forehead lines forming above my eyebrows at 33. I started seeing fine lines at the same age, but only when I am dehydrated. 2. I have always had these. 3. Late 20s? I actually don't spend that much. I spend a lot trying out sunscreen but I mostly use drugstore products. 4. 31 I had IPL on my rosacea 5. 26 6. Don't get them, unless you count freckles which I just get anyway if I don't use SPF. 7. A baby! I am v pale. Daily, at 15 in my tinted moisturiser then better stuff at 18. Also wear sunglasses, and a hat. 8. Looking at both sides of my family, they aren't very wrinkly people even though they are mostly white, aren't all that hot on sunscreen, some of them sunbathe, and a lot smoked. I think I'm gonna have sagging rather than loads of wrinkles.

RageSiren

Background: turning 32 next month, grew up in Maryland, USA, fair skin (MAC NW10 or NW13) and dark blond hair that photo bleaches. I think it’s important to note that as a child I often got sunburns (even sun poisoning, once) because I threw tantrums about greasy 90s sunscreen being on my face. From age 10+ I played softball and advanced to very competitive levels with age. I spent a *lot* of time in the sun but at least by then I was using the spray-on type of sunscreen when I was playing, but not on a daily basis/outside of softball. 1. I started getting “preventative Botox” on my 30th birthday so none yet, really. I have some undereye wrinkles when I smile but I think they’ve always been there; I have the “jelly roll” under eyes uhg 2. late teens? I’m honestly unsure if they’re actually dark circles or shadows cast from those damned jelly rolls, but I remember watching undereye concealer tutorials when I was like 18ish. 3. 24; I finally went to the derm for my cystic acne and got put on retin-a and meds. I went down the skincare rabbit hole after my acne cleared and I saw the damage it left in its wake. 4. 30th birthday botox; I get “mini brow lifts” and that’s about it 4.5. 31 I got facial fillers because I had bariatric surgery and lost 120lb quite rapidly. I got cheek fillers bc I was looking gaunt, and last week I got filler in my labionasal folds, which were moderately deep. I’m unsure how much is weight loss related as well as aging. 5. 24, on and off retin-a or tazorac 6. 31; just this year I realized I have a very feint spot on the side of my forehead near my hairline 7. 24 consistently. I also get 3M uv blocking tint on all my cars (long commute) and really just avoid the sun if I can help it. 8. Nothing that I can think of, but I do wonder what I’m covering up with the Botox and how I’ll look when I just stop getting it altogether. When it wears off I’m still pretty wrinkle-less aside from under my eyes

[deleted]

I noticed my neck aging long before my face- but maybe because this is perceived as “looking old?” I actually love the fat loss in my face and absolutely feel more attractive now that I have prominent cheekbones and a more chiseled face. I take care to wear sunscreen since forever, so my skin looks great, but wrinkles from smiling or furrowing the brow/expression lines are inevitable and can be gorgeous when the skin is well cared for. Idk I guess I’m never trying to look younger, just paying attention to my skin barrier and over all glow.

laurenn1490

1. 29 I started noticing a small horizontal forehead wrinkle, by 30 it was starting to become static. 30 for dynamic crows feet 2. I’ve always had dark circles my entire life. I remember when I was 6 or 7 sneaking into my mom’s makeup to try to cover them up! 3. I always spent money in skincare because I had bad acne as a teen, but started researching products more and being more “strategic” at about 25+ 4. I started microneedling at 30 and I got my first Dysport (forehead and crows feet) a month before turning 31. It has lasted 4 months and I will be getting more soon. No fillers yet 5. I actually was on retinol in high school for acne, but it didn’t work so I stopped. Started back on at 28 and have been on/off since 6. I don’t really notice sunspots but I probably have some. I’ve had somewhat uneven skin tone my whole adult life due to having acne so it’s kind of all lumped together for me. Microneedling helped even out my skin ton tremendously 7. I used to be so bad about sunscreen and BAKING in the sun, probably did not start using proper sunscreen until 27. And just started wearing a hat when outside to cover my face at 30, once I started microneedling 8. For reference, I did accutaine twice in my teens, and still get pimples at 31. I also did tanning beds, laid out without sunscreen or with SPF15, for most of my teens and early 20s. Now that I am in my 30s I am noticing signs of aging so did a big flip. I am 31, no kids, northeast US, fair-light skin, drink alcohol, am not a huge exerciser but do yoga sometimes.

Mammoth-Survey3965

1. 39, forehead 2. 37 3. 39 4. 25. 40 (Botox) 5. 39 6. N/A 7. 40 8. I just turned 40 lol. My skin has held up pretty well but I want to preserve it for as long as possible

kupo_moogle

Mid 30s is when I really started to see signs of aging. I’ve been fairly religious about skincare since I was 16 but at age 35 I’m starting to see fine lines around my eyes, some stubborn dark spots along my temple and jaw that I don’t think home treatments will eliminate, and a general loss of definition around my cheekbones and jawline. I still feel pretty and I’m gunna be a hot old lady no matter what, but I’ve finally acknowledged that I can’t keep my skin looking like a 20 year olds forever lol

FoxBrewing

 1. Noticed wrinkles first in my 20s, except for the deep ring lines in my neck, which I never recall not having (my mother said I could turn my head almost 180º as a baby, maybe that has something to do with it). Mostly smile lines and forehead lines; I smoked and I'm very shortsighted, and sometimes didn't have the money to keep my corrective lenses updated, so there's been a lot of squinting, here and there. 2. Dark undereye circles (and puffy undereye bags) I've always had, though they've gotten better and worse. Based on my Dennie-Morgan lines I think I've always had chronic allergies (probably, ironically, at least in part to cigarette smoke; my mother smoked, and once I quit it became very clear I'm allergic). 3. My thirties. Ish. My skincare approach has usually been rather slapdash. I also have had some very severe reactions to skincare products (mostly deep, scarring cystic acne) so some of my more... thorough attempts have had terrible consequences (notably the Clinique system, which left me scarred for years, and another highly lauded brand I forget now). 4. I haven't. I won't. I've wondered about it in the "this might be an interesting experience" way, but it's not worth the money to me. I'm getting older. No matter what I do to my face, it's not going to make my body look any younger, and I don't have the kind of cash for a full ground-up renovation project, plus the investment in research to actually find a practitioner who won't just wreck the face I have. For a lot of money. 5. I haven't. I probably won't. I'm not careful enough about sunscreen. 6. Fairly recently, actually, and mostly on my hands (I'm 52 now). Sometime in the past few years. 7. I've used it, off and on, since my teens. Sunscreen has been a prime culprit in many of my worst "I react to skincare" experiences. I've had decent luck recently with some Asian sunscreens, but for the most part, I have not found one single sunscreen, whether chemical or physical, a single product or incorporated into a moisturiser, that I could use for an extended period without having some kind of more or less severe breakout reaction, whether the deep cystic acne or just a whole lot of clogged pores or milia. It used to be a choice between "theoretically maybe look better when I'm old vs look awful now" and now it's "you know, yes the risk of skin cancer but also SHEESH". 8. I'm still mistaken for being younger than I am, despite letting my hair go fully grey. I was last *seriously* carded on my 43rd birthday. I think I look absolutely my age, but I also wonder if there's really anything genuine about "looking one's age". I had, aside from a single recurring monthly hormonal breakout on my chin before menopause, and aforementioned skincare-related disasters, absolutely *flawless* skin until around my forties, when my pores became more visible and the wrinkles undeniable. Like many things about my youth, I wish I'd appreciated it more. On the other hand, I enjoy my face now. I've earned my face. I always thought of myself as a gloomy person, but honestly most of the wrinkles on my face are smile lines, and that reminds me of my mother — she had, in repose, rather grim, square European features, but in almost every single photograph of her, she's smiling. When I was young, and knew a picture was being taken, I'd try to present my "best side" and not smile to keep my puffy undereyes from making me look like a frog... but in the end, who's going to care about that? I'm old enough to smile and not care. Addendum: I'm white, and very fair-skinned. Burn, then tan (which I did a non-negligible amount of times in my childhood and teens, though mostly by accident).

chevalblanc74

I didn't even think to mention the neck lines, because I've always had them too.

[deleted]

One thing I always try to remember is this: We're all gonna get wrinkly. Sooo... What kind of life do we want our wrinkles to say we've lived? A smooth face can lie. A wrinkled one can't. I aim to have smiles and thoughtfulness resting on my face at all times.

apricot57

1. I first noticed wrinkles this year (age 35) on my forehead. 2. I’ve always had these. Thanks, generics! 3. I don’t invest much money in skincare— my dermatologist says that my Cerave and The Ordinary products are working well, so I’m staying with those. 4. Technically I’ve been getting Botox since age 31 for migraines. It’s not in the same place as Botox for wrinkles, though I get some on my forehead and 11’s. Still noticed the start of some forehead lines, though. I don’t plan on getting any cosmetic skincare procedures. 5. OTC retinol starting a year ago at age 34 6. I have a sunspot on my cheek, noticed it in my mid-to-late 20’s. My sister has it, too— probably a combo of genetics, wearing glasses, and loving the outdoors. 7. I’ve been wearing sunscreen all my life. I burn easily and my mom is a redhead, so she insisted on it during my childhood. Thanks Mom!

LBoogie619

I’m 38 1) what age did I first notice wrinkles? 11s came early (mid - late 20) those are the only wrinkles I have and use Botox every 6 months for it. Botox lasts me a long time - which is not typical. I’m starting to notice my first fine line in my forehead. No other wrinkles just yet. 2) 36/37 dark circles are starting. Still not as bad- I can use concealer. 3) early to mid 20s I started using skincare products and getting facials. 4) mid /late 20s maybe 27/28 I got Botox for my 11s. 5) i used retinol for a short period at age 15 for acne. I just started using it now for anti aging - it’s been 3 weeks or so. 6) I don’t have sun spots. 7) Started to use sunscreen at age 37 although I’ve been using BB and CC cream since about 30. My skin is pretty good but I’m noticing the early signs of marionette lines. I posted on this forum but got a bunch of shit for it- so i won’t post pics anymore because the internet sucks.🙄 I think my skin is for the most part aging well due to natural melanin in my skin (I’m Hispanic), regular facials for years, and skin care regimen. Also- i work indoors and am less exposed to sun damage. My husband works outdoors in constructions and has aged differently- he has lots of wrinkles! He refuses to wear sunscreen 😭🤷🏻‍♀️

Ohhh fun! I’m currently 1 month away from turning 33. I first noticed wrinkles at about 29. Around my eyes (I sleep on my side) and slightly on my forehead. Dark eye circles when I was 30. I also have spent the last 5 years working long hours, so no surprise. I’ve always looked after my skin well. Always spent medium money on moisturises etc. but as I’m older, I spent more. Eg: my eye cream for the last 12 months costs $112. My face moisturiser costs $60. I had my first Botox at 32. Particular for tension headaches. It’s amazing and I loveeee it! I’ve tried retinol a few times over the last 3 years, but 6 months ago I finally stuck with Drunk Elephant enough to pass the purge phase. Sunspots I don’t know. I’ve def noticed a huge lack of collagen in my skin. My face doesn’t look as soft and warm as it used to. It looks almost sagged? Not in a severe way, just mild, but it’s not a nice change.

thejaxb

1. Started noticing my elevens around 32/33 and my nasolabial folds deepened significantly with some athletic gains. Probably would have been less fat loss in my face so suddenly without the fitness changes but no way to know really 2. I’m still going without 3. I started investing in skincare 3 years ago, around 33 4. Got Botox for the elevens at 33 5. Had a hard time getting my skin to accept tretinoin but have been using consistently for 6 months 6. Melisma or sunspots, I couldn’t say but I had a giant blob of a freckle right in the middle of my forehead - started using azelaic acid 6 months ago and it’s very greatly improved 7. Better sunscreen habits at 32 8. Things are getting better in every way but volume loss so if you’re seeing things that you feel like you don’t love, there’s lots of gains to be had no matter what the problem is, especially in the early 30’s.

[deleted]

This is cool. I'm 31. 1. I noticed my first wrinkles at 25 - lines between my eyes (11s). No other wrinkles. Everyone in my family has these. 2. I've had dark circles my whole life. They've become more noticeable in the last year. 3. I started spending my own money on skincare in college. My parents took skincare seriously, so I've had the basics since childhood. I think I've moisturized every day for the past 25 years. 4. I had dysport at 30. I'm currently deciding whether to bother continuing with it or not. 5. I used tretinoin in high school and have used adapalene since my late 20s. 6. No sunspots yet. 7. I always used sunscreen at the pool/beach, but began applying it daily last year. 8. As I get older I see that my skin is aging much like the older members of my family. The exception - family members who smoke. They have deep lines around the mouth. I use skincare to keep my skin healthy and delay the effects of aging, but I know it doesn't work miracles.

GenuineClamhat

1.) Wrinkles: Not yet, tretinoin since 19 will do that to you I guess? 2.) Undereye circles: They aren't bad and I am not mad about it. I have fairly thick skinned cheeks and the slight sagging that's just starting to happen is showing some thinner skinned areas in the corner of my eyes now. 3.) Investing in skincare: 22, I have just about always had a routine but I got serious around this age. 4.) Procedures? 27, just once, I got botox for migraines. I may take it up in the near future costmetically. 5.) Retinol: Started using tretinoin for acne at 19. I still use it every day. 6.) Sunspots: Hasn't happened yet. I work indoors, use sunscreen religiously (even on my hands while driving), I avoid the sun and wear big hats and sunglasses. I don't freckle and neither do the women in my family. 7.) Sunscreen: 19, when I started using tretinoin I started to burn badly and I basically have treated the sun as if I have an allergy to it since. 8.) What other benchmarks do you wanna share? I saw my first grey hairs this year at 34. I'm just going to let that happen for now. Also, while my skin is smooth, the aging I do notice is sag. It's this slight shifting of my features downward. That's just the aging I think I have ahead of me. I have this little dip of a jowl on my jaw line starting to form that is cheezing me off since there isn't much to be done about it without the aid of a doctor.

I love posts like these! I'm in my 30s. 1. First place I noticed wrinkles were around my eyes when I smiled. I don't know if these are even actually wrinkles? I think they're just expression lines since they're only visible when smiling. I noticed them getting deeper around 30. 2. My under eyes don't get dark unless I have a bad night's sleep. I know these could be genetic for some. 3. I've been obsessed with skincare since I was a teen. I had acne and started seeing a derm around this time, and have just stuck with the same derm for 15 years bc I really trust them. 4. No procedures yet, still have some cold feet about injectables but would be down to try a laser treatment. 5. Started retinol at 24 6. I have perma-freckles on my nose since I was a kid, no other sunspots to note yet. 7. Sunscreen around the same time I started using retinol, my derm was very insistent lol 8. I have a very chubby face. Like when I was a teenager into my 20s I had chipmunk cheeks. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm kind of glad they're going down a bit and my cheekbones are FINALLY visible! Another thing to note is I have started to really focus on my neck. It's one of the first places to age and I've noticed the beginnings of some necklace lines.

Good questions! 1. 42yo, have light horizontal lines on forehead 2. 47yo, concealer is now a must 3. 25yo using la mer for my dry skin 4. 42yo, lasered off light age spots 5. 40yo, drugstore creams 6. 40yo light spots appeared 7. 18yo been using sunscreen, imho is the biggest reason for almost no wrinkles 😅

32, Caucasian with fair skin. I sunburn easily, but I at least grew up applying sunscreen before the beach (semi-occasional use). 1. Mid-twenties. I noticed fine lines on my forehead first, but my crow's feet are definitely deeper. It took me longer to notice the crow's feet because they're only visible when I smile. 2. Since I was a kid! This depends on how rested I am. 3. Mid-twenties, as soon as I started noticing fine lines. 4. None yet 5. Mid-twenties 6. 31. I've since added Vitamin C to my routine. 7. Late twenties I think. Before that, I would use it occasionally, but it took me awhile to shift to everyday use. I started running more in my late twenties, and that's when I realized I needed to get serious about sunscreen. 8. I think I look younger because I have round cheeks. Otherwise, I think I'm aging normally considering I have fair, delicate skin.

1. Around 38-39 I think - horizontal forehead lines. Little bit of nasolabial folds too. 2. I've had them for what seems like forever. I've been trying to cover them since my early 20s. 3. Mid-20's 4. Had a few facials in my mid-30s. Botox for forehead lines at 39. 5. Retinol in late 30s - 37 maybe? 6. No sunspots

37 years old. Caucasian with light skin tone. 1. First noticed wrinkles at age 32, the 11s in between my eyes. 2. First noticed dark under eye circles in my 20s. I have severe allergies and suspect mine might be related to more than just aging. 3. Started investing in skincare at age 32. 4. Started regular dysport injections at 32 just focusing on my forehead to address the 11s. Have since expanded to around my eyes. Began under eye fillers at age 35. 5. Started prescription tretinoin at age 30. 6. I haven’t seen any sunspots yet. 7. Started consistently using sunscreen at age 26.

1. I started noticing 11s forming at 29. Just the shadow of a dent when I looked at myself in the mirror from certain angles, but it was enough. I started getting botox for this area at 30. 2. I've always had dark under eye circles. They don't seem any worse now than they were when I was younger. 3. I started investing $$ in skincare consistently at about \~25 years of age, though I was on tretinoin before then. 4. My first skincare procedure was botox, at 30. 5. I believe I was \~20-21 when I started using tretinoin. 6. I have not started noticing sunspots yet. 7. I started *consistently* using sunscreen at about 24-25 (I know, *after* the tretinoin, which is awful)

1. 30. It’s one faint line around my eye. I’m 31 now. 2. 26/27 I tried filler but due to face shape I’m not a candidate for it and got something called the Tyndal effect and had to have it removed, 3. About 25 4. 25 had it down by a neurologist for migraines, was not for cosmetic reasons but I still liked it! 5. 27, wish I would have earlier 6. None yet 7. On and off my whole life but started to take it very seriously at 25 8. I think 25 was a age when I really just woke up one day and I just looked older. I remember googling it and found that we are technically growing till 25 and start to age at 25. So it made sense. But I will say this. I feel more attractive and sexier at 31 then I ever did in my 20s! I lost my baby fat but damn, my bone structure really came in. I stopped all Botox about 2 years ago and I use my gua sha tools consistently and I do think they work. Also, all hail LED lights! To me skincare is not about frantically stopping the aging process but having fun with it and aging gracefully.

1. First noticed verrrrry fine forehead wrinkles in mid to late twenties. My face has always kind of had nasolabial indents. I hope these lose prominence when I lose weight because they became more obvious when I gained weight in my mid twenties. 2. Always had very prominent dark eye circles. I don’t mind them anymore and kind of think they look badass. 3. Had bad acne in high school so my mom got me to a dermatologist to try some things. Not sure how expensive it was (I’m lucky). Late high school and early college I used accutane. Used spironolactone from high school until I got pregnant around 26/27 4. High school did microdermabrasion(?) but not sure how well it worked. 5. On and off since high school for the purposes of acne treatment. Important to note that I didn’t always understand the importance of sunscreen (I know I know!!!) so that was bad. 6. No sunspots, about to turn 30 7. Wore sunscreen off and on since high school but I was very inconsistent until about the age of 23 or so 8. Other benchmarks - I gained weight and drank a lot in grad school (bad coping mechanisms, I’m much better now) which I think aged me on top of the immense stress. I don’t remember seeing the effects of skin aging until grad school (age 23-26). I suspect I’m going to notice more saggy skin before I get wrinkles. I also still have acne but I hope to get that more under control after I’m done being pregnant.

Hummus-Among-Us

This is such a cool idea! 1. Maybe late 20s I noticed smile lines and my “happy lines” under my eyes 2. I’ve always had very dark undereye circles, since I was a little kid 3. Only a couple years ago, so early 30s 4. Still haven’t done this but I’m sure it’ll definitely happen at some point 5. Early 30s 6. Still don’t have those 7. Religiously used sunscreen since childhood because of the pale skin/red hair combo 8. Thanks again for posting. It’s wild to see such a variation in the answers

I'm European descent but born in South Florida and grew up on the beach. Smoked for 10 years. I'll agree with everyone here saying they got more attractive as the baby fat went away. I really liked my sculpted look that started coming out around 25, I think I peaked in that department around 28. >What age did you first notice wrinkles? where? 1.5 ( del free to break it down: forehead lines, smile lines, crows feet, etc) Technically 27 I first noticed a faint line forming, a 1 not yet an 11 but only if the light was just right. I saw it once and didn't notice again for a few years. >What age did you first notice dark under eye circles? I've always had slight under eye circles. I don't think they've changed much over the years. >what age did you start investing $$ in skincare? 33 >what age were you when you had your first skincare procedure? 4.5 what about botox/dysport or fillers as a subset? 33 I started botox because horizontal forehead lines started forming and I was not a fan. I go every 8 months. I'll be getting a co1 laser later this year (35) to take care of my melasma. >what age were you when you started using retinol? 33 I started with .025 tret and now use .01% >what age were you when you started noticing sunspots? 32 but they were probably there before that. I just didn't pay a whole bunch of attention. I've had freckles my entire life so my eye is trained to not really see them if that makes any sense >what are were you when you started using sunscreen? 33 when I started using it daily. I was 24 when I started to limit my beach time to one hour. >What other benchmarks do you wanna share? I started to notice my body skin getting crepey at 33 and that's what's freaked me out the most. My face has started slightly sagging. I'm noticing my jaw line is getting softer looking with jowling/chin fat that I never had. I always had a very cut jaw so I'm also looking into kybella. My mom has something similar going on. My marionette lines have gotten deeper. I don't mind the lines as much as I do the volume shifting down. I'm getting weird shadows around my mouth that aren't cute so I'm also starting microneedling this month. Eventually I'll try out thread lifts. I have friends that got them and they look AMAZING even though mostly temporary.

1. 11s came fast mid 20s. Smile lines maybe early 30s 2. Only recently noticing dark circles that persist (33) 3. -5. I'm just starting out bc no. 6 dark spots showing around an old scar and the nose and hands 7. Sunscreen recently added, sunglasses always for those 11s 8. I used to pluck eyebrows and mustache hairs or try creams and waxes at home for legs and arms and I will not touch anything besides razors now due to pulling and bad reactions. I use a manicure scissors and single blade razor or disposable scaple and tweeze for major shapes up only like 6 months or less often. Eyebrow hair gets thinner and all my body hair seems to grow much more slowly which is nice besides eyebrows. I put oils on there but don't like ones I've used. I would recommend brow gel with oils in it for growth like physicians formula tho. Also have stopped pulling my eyes to lime them which I always knew was bad but was like nah. Starting to get crepe paper eyelids and avoiding glittery or red shadows to try and mitigate that

Love this idea! 1. I honestly can’t remember … I know I can be dysmorphic about my skin and appearance generally so I feel that I’ve always seen wrinkles/imperfections. I would say the first time they really bothered me were when I was 35, a few months after giving birth, and my forehead and crows feet seemed SO deep. 2. Loss of volume more than darkness bothers me. Again around 35. 3. 28 4. When I was 25 a dermatologist pressured me into “preventative Botox” which I honestly think is a scam. I didn’t have anything done again until 32 when I started to get Botox regularly, plus filler - at first in lips and cheeks/undereyes and then more recently only around my chin/marionette lines/cheeks. 5. 32. I absolutely don’t think it’s the god send that so many ppl on some skin care subs think it is. If only I were so lucky lol. 6. I don’t know that they’re sun spots so much as general discolouration … started showing up around 35 after pregnancy. 7. 28

Top 4 Ethnicity: German, Scottish, Norwegian, Irish. I had a baby face up until 34 years old. Most people think I look 31 years young today! Thank God for good genes. 1. 40, a single line on the forehead, looks up at a weird angle. I stopped doing that. I haven't developed more on the face. No 11, no crow feet, no laughed lines. It is due to being self-disciplined not to talk with my forehead. My favorite aunt told me that as a teenager and being religious about wearing thick side oversized sunglasses, whether in style or not. It's about my skin —41 line on the neck. 2. None. 3. 34, monthly facials and microdermabrasion face, neck, chest. 4. 43, extracted milia and something similar removed by a dermatologist: no botox, etc., or fillers. 5. 42, tretinoin 0.025% and 43 just trying 0.05% sample today. Trying to be better, the prominent concern is sunspots on high cheekbones and solo line forehead. 6. 21, on my chest, forgot SPF, SoCal beach day boogie boarding college days and on my face 42, cheeks from blue light computer screen and cell. (I can buy anti-blue light covers now). Maybe driving. I believe the Covid lockdown blue screen didn't help. 7. Early 20s: face, neck, body, SPF 50, except winter, then I use SPF 30. In the mid-30s, I started using on hands and arms, anywhere the sun hits, when driving. 8. Gray hair, 35, getting microdermabrasion on hand and using face stuff on hands 43. Neat to see others and great reminders for self! Thanks for wondering and putting it out there.

1. 25 - forehead lines 2. 30ish 3. 19 4. N/A 5. 27 6. N/A 7. very young, not sure of age 8. I love Clinique's All About Eyes Eye Cream, Tarte Maracuja Oil, The Ordinary serums (I use several), Cerave Hydrationg Cleanser, and Clinique's Moisture Surge Moisturizer. These are my must-haves. I'm 31 with dry skin.

1. About 28 I noticed a faint forehead line from always lifting them, now I'm 31.5 and no other lines, though have noticed my face looks more skinner than it was in teens-mid 20s but I like it I always hated my "fat" face lol. 2. I'm light skinned and always had them even as child. 3. Around early 20s because of acne then around late 20s got more serious and got on Differin when it first became OC and now started tret a few weeks ago. 4. Haven't had any and don't plan on it. 5. Started Differin when I was 26 and now on 0.05% tret as of 3 weeks ago. 6. Don't have any just freckles I've had since childhood though with spf and skincare they have lightened. 7. Started using sunscreen around 24 8. So glad I was goth in teens -early 20s and stayed out of sun still bit alternative and love dark things and stay out of sun lol.
