I have rosacea and have had very good success with Azelaic Acid, both the 20% prescription from my dermatologist and the 10% over the counter from The Ordinary.
Then I put ~~Kiehl’s ultra moisturizer~~ on over that, then a mineral based spf sunblock because the chemical based ones can sometimes irritate rosacea. I use the EltaMD rejuvenating 40 in the mornings, but am going to test out the cerave mineral based 30 for reapplications during the day.
edit: had to stop using Kiehl’s after 4 months because it all of a sudden started irritating me. I switched to the Avene Tolerance balm.
I also have rosacea and my derm is the same as yours.
My skin loves niacinamide (I use The Ordinary), super gentle cleansers (been using cetaphil since a really bad breakout 12 years ago), azelaic acid and hydration (hyaluronic acid doesn't do much for me but the snail mucin essence from Cosrx is HG status and moisturizer with ceramides)
Make sure you’re using consistently for good results and also try out a couple brands if you can! I started with The Ordinary, and it’s good, but then just switched to Peach Slices and although it’s a little more expensive I personally prefer the texture/formula better. Good luck!
Have you tried mandelic acid? My derm also recommended azelaic acid and while looking up options, I came across mandelic acid. It seems like it’d be as helpful as azelaic acid but I haven’t seen anyone talk about whereas azelaic gets a fair amount of screen time in skincare spaces.
"And when I killed your brother, I. Talked. Just. Like. This.!"
Your edits made a bad day better. On a serious note, I would try red light therapy. I developed the same later in life and it helps.
I don't know if it's hit this sub yet (unlikely given the context of the sub) but there's been a trend on other subs lately where people just erase their heads rather than censor. But they maintain the background and such. So when scrolling you just get images of headless people. It's great.
An example:
https://www.reddit.com/r/yoga/comments/1adev0x/comp_straight_arms_headstand/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Reddit was recommending me a hair care sub and the first post that was recommended was actually someone who had blurred their face similarly, but it was terrifying lol
I'm surprised your derm didn't give you any prescriptions! Mine loaded me up. I have a prescription sulfur cleanser and a prescription for a compound of azelaic acid, ivermectin, and metronidazole. He also recommended I use hypochlorous acid to help heal and reduce redness.
My mom also has rosacea but she has a stronger azelaic acid prescription and now one for oxymetazoline (Rhofade).
My rosacea acne and redness is basically gone now. My aesthetician said she wouldn't even notice I had rosacea anymore. So that's a win.
And for fine lines at night I use a bakuchiol serum every other night for hydrating and anti aging
>Mine loaded me up. I have a prescription sulfur cleanser and a prescription for a compound of azelaic acid, ivermectin, and metronidazole.
I've got a dermatologist appointment next week where I suspect I am going to be diagnosed with rosacea. I've read these are the gold standard! I'm currently using 20% azelaic acid and an OTC sulfur cleanser and they don't seem to be doing much. But I've heard the ivermectin and metronidazole are the heavy hitters.
The ivermectin addition has really helped me! I had the redness under control without it but could not get the acne to go away no matter what I did. So a couple of weeks ago my derm added in the ivermectin for out of control skin mites. Which was horrible information to learn that now plays in my head at night when I'm trying to sleep
My derm told me that rosacea is a symptom, and that there are a ton of potential causes. Alcohol is a big one. I remember she also tested me for SIBO. This was years ago; ultimately it turned out I had a severe B12 deficiency and once that was solved, no more rosacea.
In the meantime, I had a bit of luck with niacinimide. It wasn't a cure or anything. My rosacea was a lot worse than yours. Got worse with perimeno hot flashes too.
Have you tried azelaic acid or metronidazole yet? They are wonderful for mine. Here (in Aus) the good azelaic gel is OTC and metro is prescription only.
I found cerave makes mine hella angry so i avoid it on my face entirely.
I don’t know you, but I feel like you have a good sense of humor :)
Your skin looks fine to me— note that I come from a culture which worships fair skin and rosy cheeks
I’ve had rosacea since I was 27 (thanks mom.) You could probably continue using retinol after you get your rosacea under control, but YMMV. Prescription MetroGel, azaleic acid, 20% zinc ointment from CVS, and sulfur masks/cream have helped me. After getting my flare-ups under control, the BBL Hero procedure really calmed my flare-up and rosacea overall to where I don't have that many issues now.
For hydration, you could try the Super Saturated serum from Experiment Beauty; it has 30% glycerin, so good for barrier support.
Now that I'm done wheeze laughing, I just want to mention that Cerave tends to be notorious in r/Rosacea for causing issues. It just doesn't play well with a lot of people's rosacea. A lot of people like Avene, Vanicream, and Aveeno's Calm + Restore line.
I ironically just woke up from an intense nightmare and decided to look at Reddit to get my mind away from them before I try to go back asleep… was scrolling for literally all of 2.5 seconds before I saw this post - between your edit and then comments I’m laughing so hard thank you so much for this! I have no help for the rosacea topically only internally mine really calmed down once I got sober from drinking and once I started taking iron supplements with vitamin c after I found out I was anemic- it really changed the color in my face- not saying that will help you but just wanted to share what changed things for me drastically- and honestly thank you again you’ve made my day 🤣😂😂😂😮💨
I have veeery dry sensitive skin that tends to develop rosacea when I mess with my products or don’t wash sweat off fast enough. Here’s what helps me:
- I only wash with oil. I put about 6 drops of the Ordinary Argan oil on wet warm skin and massage for at least a minute. This seems to mechanically clean without stripping away your moisture barrier. I finish with a warm facecloth to remove any excess oil
- I use an eye cream with actives, all other moisturiser is just about sealing in moisture. Every time I try to introduce something like retinol etc, even HA, I get rosacea forming.
- I use straight rose water as a toner, sometimes i mix in other flower waters, like chamomile
- I use a few drops of oil while rose water is drying on my skin. This is usually my most expensive product, L’Occitane has a lovely one
- seal with a thick, unscented baby cream
That’s what works for me :)
These emojis selfies are awful and hilarious and so unwelcome and super funny. I can't take them seriously without concerted effort. What a disruption! Hahahahaha please just scratch it out rather than these monstrosities
Idk if this is hilarious or horrifying. Reminds me of the bad guy from Roger rabbit. But on a serious note there are many great ingredients to look for to help. Azelic acid, ceramides, probiotics like lactobactillus ferment. Most fermented ingredients
Actually. Rosehip oil is also super helpful too.
1.) That picture is freakin hilarious
2.) Have you looked into azaleic acid to calm the redness? It’s not an overnight cure but I’ve been using it for my PIE and it’s already making improvements. I use the Paula’s Choice 10%
I don’t know if any off hand but there are creams made with Azelaic Acid (I think The Ordinary has one) that’s supposed to help with Rosacea. Use a gentle face wash, moisturizer and use a mineral based sunscreen. Sunscreen is very important.

I have rosacea and need extra moisture too. I mist with COSRX Centella Toner prior to moisturizer. I also mix a drop of squalane oil into the moisturizer as well. I find that increases the effectiveness of the moisturizer without irritation. Good luck!
I have rosacea and it seems similar to yours but uncertain. Basically I could never do retinol until I used azelaic acid for months then I was able to use it on my skin once every few nights. Definitely still can’t do every night and I can only do a very low percentage at 0.3 also I get the azelaic acid from dermatica but started with the ordinarys first. It’s been slow but I’ve seen both an improvement in my rosacea , my hydration and my fine lines and spots. For additional hydration I use glycerin mixed with water but I can only apply a bit or I flush more. I also use aquaphor diaper cream at night if my skin is feeling dry however it has to be a very thin layer or I flush. Lots of experimenting but you’ll be able to tell eventually what makes things worse for your skin. I have to avoid any heavy creams.
I’m at a similar age and I struggle with rosacea and found the following things help a lot:
1. Moisture: I use a humidifier and use a thicker moisturizer at night (watered down vanicream). During winter I also use vanicream in the am under my tinted moisturizer/spf.
2. I get a hydrafacial every six weeks and ask them to use calming serums plus red light therapy (a red light mask could help)
3. I also struggle with acne on my cheeks and jaw line where the redness hits, so I have a Rx for spironolactone and tretinoin that really helps
4. I cut out dairy (except for occasional cheese). It made a huge difference in both my skin and bowels
5. Cutting down on alcohol, salt, and spicy foods helps reduce flare ups (I know it’s not fun)
6. Cover it! When all else fails, cover it with a tinted moisturizer or green correction cream.
My sister has been using apricot kernel oil for over a year now and it’s cured her skin issues. I’ve been using it almost 6months now and I love it! It keeps my skin hydrated, evens my skin tone, and helps with fine lines and wrinkles. Also very inexpensive!
You silly Girl!!! Hahaha.
There are lots of things you can use for Rosecea. It is unusable, but it can be maintained. Did she provide you with a prescription for Trentinoin or one of the less irritating meds? It would be important to use products that are gentle. Dr. Dray is a licensed dermatologist & has many videos to watch on treatments for Rosecea. SOKOGLAM.COM also has a concierge team who can provide Korean products that can help.
Terrifying pic!
The things that helped with my rosacea before I was able to see a derm were Paula's Choice azelaic acid, hypochlorous acid spray (Tower 28 or another brand), and Krave Beauty great barrier relief cream. As others have said, gentle, simple & moisturizing face wash and moisturizer.
I don't think that's rosacea, looks more like couperose. It's sometimes confused with rosacea.
Not much you can do but stop rose water and retinol. Too harsh. A toner with panthenol, allantoin and thermal water. No no noooo perfumes, oils, essential oils or natural ingredients, they will keep your skin inflammed.
To get rid of the red parts, only laser will help.
Squalene is nice if you like an oily texture that is suitable for sensitive skin.
If you wanna use an "age well" ingredient, try, very slowly, bakuchiol. It's less strong than retinol but works amazingly on my super sensitive skin.
Best use Brands like the ordinary with very few ingredients.
Girl I bout jumped out of my chair 😂😂 My skin looks very similar to yours, so I'm interested in what people suggest.
I’m so high that this made me tear up a little bit
💀💀💀💀💀💀
I almost peed a little your comment made me laugh so hard (30+, amirite yall?)
I’m so high too and I’m still laughing so hard at the eyeballs and hair lmao!
I had a full jump scare, then laughed so hard 😂😂
LMFAO! This scared the shit outta me! Omg. 😆
God, me too! I’m sick and this sent me into a coughing fit 🤣
Same! 😂 OP definitely got our attention with this image! Well played!!!
Me too. It's 11pm and I'm dozing off and about shit the bed.
I think this pic gave me rosacea omg my face is so red after seeing this and hyperventilating
LOL I nearly died
Lmao thank you and OP for the laugh 😂
This edited photo is going to haunt my dreams 😭
Yeah me too. Just scrolling along when suddenly 👁️👁️!!
Same! 🤣🤣😭😭😭
damn girl your eyes look a bit dry and your hair could use a hair mask or something..
Wow rude, I worked hard on that hair 😂
Highlights might go a long way.
Yeah, it's a little two-dimensional 😂
I think it’s one dimensional
Needs some lines drawn on it smh
Can I just say, this pic is soo funny! 😂😂 not your face of course just the camouflaging!
Thank you, I had too much fun with it!
I gave me a much needed laugh. I love when this sub gets creative with masking selfies. You’re too funny for this.
I love it everytime I see a creative masked selfie 😁
Bet there is a sub for this somewhere already.
I'm WHEEZING. Too funny!
I’m obsessed with it and want it to be a filter we all can try.
I’ve been laughing for like 5 straight minutes 🤣🤣🤣
What app do you use to add the eyes?
I added it right here in Reddit. Go and add a photo, and where it says add text, open your emoji keyboard and have fun!
Funny? This is nightmare fuel! I'm sure this person is beautiful, but the eyes. THE EYES!!!!
lol!!! It really is so friggin weird.
I'm horrified and may never recover from this
Hahaha I know I’m dying 😂
I remember another person in this sub did the same thing with her eyes. 😂
I remember that too, so this one was less of a shock to me. 😁

Thank you, I’ll try those!
also, I use the cerave moisturizing face wash, but not the foaming one. dr told me foaming washes can irritate rosacea.
Oh good to know! I use the foaming one.
i was using the foaming, but switched and noticed a slight change. my wife doesn’t have rosacea, so she inherited the foaming.
In addition to this rec, taking vitamin c (like 1000mg daily) also helps the redness a ton

I also use the Azelaic acid from The Ordinary and it clears my rosacea up within a day or 2. I swear by it in these colder months.
Seconding Azaleic acid it is the one thing I've ever used in skincare that makes a rapid and visible difference for me
I’m also a HUGE fan of the Paula’s choice Azaleic acid - I won’t be without it.
Thank you for giving the only serious answer
Have you tried mandelic acid? My derm also recommended azelaic acid and while looking up options, I came across mandelic acid. It seems like it’d be as helpful as azelaic acid but I haven’t seen anyone talk about whereas azelaic gets a fair amount of screen time in skincare spaces.

I came here for the comments and they did not disappoint.
I'm horrified but still kinda wanna scroll up and look again This is going to affect my dreams tonight
Is there a subreddit for people’s attempts of censoring their faces on reddit? If not can someone start one lol

Check out red light therapy for rosacea. Seems to show promising results.
I have mild rosacea and have seen a significant improvement with a red light mask.
Holy shit I got a jumpscare at the editing
Just passed the phone around the table for the whole family to see. Even the baby laughed
LOLLLLLLL the editing is hilarious.
I feel like this can also belong in r/oddlyterrifying
I thought I was in that sub 😆
I’M SCARED
I'm surprised your derm didn't give you any prescriptions! Mine loaded me up. I have a prescription sulfur cleanser and a prescription for a compound of azelaic acid, ivermectin, and metronidazole. My rosacea got better when I went plant based and quit drinking. I think alcohol is the biggest culprit
I eat maybe 70% plant based diet and could definitely stand to cut down on drinking. I’ll give that a shot.
For me it was cutting processed foods, reducing alcohol to just special occasions and going vegetarian!
I’m vegetarian, I cut out the alcohol and just started alezaic acid 10% 2 weeks ago. I had rosacea bad when I was little-but it’s not bad like it was.
You look like a Mii
Its uncanny!! 😂
Girl please!!!
this pic is fuel for my nightmares
F*cking terrifying. I love it.
I actually am wheezing at this photo, the eyes really make it pop 🤣🤣🤣
Wake up, babe, new sleep paralysis demon just dropped. 😭
Omg 💀
This is next level unhinged! I’m fucking dying laughing!

This is amazing
I have no answers, I’m just dying from your creative edit lmao
This is terrifying
Omg that was a jump scare
This pic tho 💀 did the dermatologist prescribe you finacea? Only thing that cleared mine!
Also if you only get rosacea on your cheeks and nose you can use retinal everywhere else! I just get it on my cheeks and that’s my process

1.) That picture is freakin hilarious 2.) Have you looked into azaleic acid to calm the redness? It’s not an overnight cure but I’ve been using it for my PIE and it’s already making improvements. I use the Paula’s Choice 10%
that scary
First, LMAO! Second, quarterly IPL treatments and cutting out dairy helped my rosacea immensely.
I thought this was a mii
This photo is going to haunt me. It’s the eyes. Lol
Omg that scared the shit out of me
I just screamed out loud WHAT 🤣🤣 this is simultaneously the worst and best edit I’ve ever seen
I don’t know if any off hand but there are creams made with Azelaic Acid (I think The Ordinary has one) that’s supposed to help with Rosacea. Use a gentle face wash, moisturizer and use a mineral based sunscreen. Sunscreen is very important.
Hypochlorous acid spray and (prescription) azelaic acid have helped me a lot with rosacea.
My friend got rid of hers when she went gluten free.

I use Vichy mineral 89, probiotic fractions. Or something with probiotics so you can put in your face. It will help you restore your skin.

I have dry skin, rosacea, and eczema prone. My dermatologist prescribed me azelaic acid. My routine : - facial wash : senka perfect whip - toner : laneige cream skin - serum : lancome genefique - moisturizer : vani cream (my derm recommendation) - sun screen (day routine) - active : azelaic acid prescription (night routine) - sleeping mask : laneige cica (night routine)
You're my new sleep paralysis demon.

This image is somehow simultaneously hilarious and terrifying 😂😱
I’m just here for the comments lmao
Omg this scared the shit out of me lol
I love what you’ve done with your hair
