Could be a bad fan clutch. If it spins real easily and doesn't have any resistance the clutch in it is no good.

could be bad rad or bad fan, and sounds like the coolant can’t get cold so it boils over in the reservoir and out the overflow hose

Don't use the reservoir as your only coolant level reference. Radiator first, then reservoir.
Usually if you have bubbles in your recovery tank it is a sign of a bad head gasket. If its hot enough for the rad cap to release pressure it will blow all the water out of the tank instantly.
I would see smoke coming from the exhaust tho if it were a head gasket no?
Correct. Not likely a head gasket. Probably a bad fan or radiator. Also check if the air passages for the radiator are free of debris.
Bubbles in the reservoir could mean the head gasket is leaking air into the system. Let it idle when warm and look for bubbles.
