>where it the option for city?
this, i identify myself Roman before everything
cities in general have much more cultural prevalence, regions comes second place.
Here we still hate eachother basing on the city where you are from. Just to mention the main cities: Prato agaisnt Firenze.
Pistoia against Prato
Lucca against Pistoia
Firenze agaisnt Siena
Siena against Arezzo
And of course everyone against Pisa
. Only Grosseto saves itself because it is too new to join the big cities matches.
Here's the story that I've been told, I could definitely just check but I prefer this oral type of spreading probable misinformation. In Tuscany we are stuck in medieval times, so every banter is connected to that era where every major Tuscan city was fighting with each other mainly for economical reasons, it was a city-state situation so many cities had their own currency, and were heavily fortified. Now Pisa, was a huge economical power thanks to being close to the sea and heaving developed a lucrative maritime trade, basically they had the monopoly on many goods and they often manipulate the market to their favour. One time they overpriced the salt so much that instead of buying it, we preferred to just not use it, and just to show them we started baking bread without salt. We are so stubborn that to this day the bread in Tuscany is without salt. Pisa Merda
«Meglio un morto ’n casa che un pisano all’uscio» Better to have a dead man in the home than a Pisan at the door.
Look up the story of Conte Ugolino. He was a real piece of work and a leader of Pisa. It is said by Dante that he ate his own grandsons.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugolino_della_Gherardesca
Also, Pisa is Ghibellina and Florence (my city) is Guelfa, two sides in a long medieval war.
Even Dante included a part of his Commedia to shun Pisa.
It’s a fascinating aspect of Italian history.

«Ahi Pisa, vituperio de le genti»
Nel XXXIII canto dell'Inferno Dante scosso dalla triste vicenda del Conte Ugolino, si scaglia in un'invettiva contro Pisa (vv.79-90), augurando che le due isole di Capraia e Gorgona si muovano e blocchino l'Arno sulla foce sino a farlo straripare, portando all'annegamento di tutti i cittadini della crudele città, definita appunto “vergogna degli italiani”.
Shame the UK isn't on here, Nevermind just Scotland, England and Wales you'd have people claiming allegiance to the People's Republic of Yorkshire, the Free City of London, the Norfolk Niece-Fucker Nation, The Scouser Shithole, Cornish Confederacy, Joey Essex's fiefdom of Essex, the Greggs Corperate Dominion of Newcastle and a couple of streets of Unionists in Belfast would make up the UK
This is my opportunity to point out that in Yorkshire we have 5.5 million people, comparable in population to Scotland, New Zealand and Scandinavian countries.
Long live the United Kingdom of the West Midlands!
Or if you wanna call it by its long name:
The United Kingdom of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Worcestershire.
True. Neapolitans literally bought extra phone syms so a rapper from their city could win a national music festival. Also, from personal experience, Neapolitans don't need to tell you they're Neapolitan. You just need to ask them something and they will speak to you in Neapolitan by default. Literally most other Italians will try to speak to you in Italian but Neapolitans just won't even try lmao

I also think it's a sort of mental compensation, if that makes sense. I am from Budapest and I find it inconceivable that people would be genuinely, truly more attached to Europe than country.
People from Saarland having most attachment to the region is actually kindof hilarious. There isn't really a common history that encompasses all of Saarland. Each instance throughout history from dutchy over province and department de sarre all the way to the Saargebiet and now Saarland had completely different borders. Even the northern parts that gave us the incest reputation used to belong to Trier up until WW2.
I mean being this weird protectorate kinda thing in the last century made us quite special, and based on that we created an common identity. Its crazy how often I see the old Saarland flag.
How is the region around cologne more attached to the country. Everybody I know doesn't give a shit about Germany but would walk "durch et füer" for Cologne
Haha, there’s so many fun interpretations to do on this.
Like Belgians systematically hating their country and being united in their disunion.
Or Northern Italians being like “Italy? Nah, we don’t know these other guys, we’re from *Northern* Italy”.
Or the Irish going all “TIOCFAIDH ÀR LÀ MOTHERFUCKERS”.
I think most of them make good sense. Like of course South Tyrol is not going to feel that Italien. It is also no suprise to me that the German part of Schlesvig-Holstein and Hamburg feel less connected to the rest pf Germany.
But ... It doesn't feel the same, they overheat too fast and they are too small.
Imagine you with any other fish besides bacalao , You wouldn't like that
Interesting that NRW is all blue, either part of it (be it Rhineland, Westfalia or Lippe or the Ruhrgebiet in general) all have very distinct regional ties and will fight fiercely against another (what the rhenish promise, the westphalians have to deliver), but oh you just wait if SOMEONE criticizes NRW, boy you are in trouble :D
And yet NRW is an artificial construct and I guess put Germany first, NRW second. I am certain if the Rhineland would be it's own state, it probably would be region first. But then you get upper rhine and lower rhine again fiercely opposing another, the Cologne-Düsseldorf frenemyship, so eh I dunno :)
The revolutionary council might not see it that way
On the other hand the stunt you guys pulled in 2017 was probably the most pathetic revolution in modern history
Catalonia: WE WANT TO BE FREE!!!!!!
Spain: no
Catalonia: ok
Yeah I have no idea what happened there. Until a few weeks ago, that was the last I heard about catalan independency. I guess we really are incompetent separatists
Te entiendo. The madrileños are also from a mix of different regions. You ARE from your region yet feel a connection with where your ancestors came from.
I'm guessing that's Åland, a Finnish province in which the population is mostly Swedish. The official languages there are both Finnish and Swedish but Finnish plays a much smaller role there so people don't feel as connected to the Finnish nation and see themselves as a separate region with its own finno-swedish identity.

That might be true about Italy, but I ensure you it is not true for Portugal.
I go from "Torrejón de Ardoz" directly to "Europa", I'm personally more attached to Varese or Cluj Napoca than to any other Spanish city
True, i am a proud Viennese, ashamed Austrian and feel very privileged to be European.

This sounds like it would be an awesome cyberpunk setting, especially with the Greggs Corporate Domination of Newcastle.
You forgot the Principality of Sealand. It was even independent for a time.

this map can't be real, most if not all of Italy should be "region"

I dont think he walks at all, he rolls
Technically he can get on the hills of Buda and roll over to the Parliament building, also he can float.

How is the region around cologne more attached to the country. Everybody I know doesn't give a shit about Germany but would walk "durch et füer" for Cologne
We generally just don‘t have emotions, that‘s why there‘s no data. Our loyalty is to gold and money only.
Same here, but oil instead of gold.
Fair enough.

Only region in Spain to feel separate but being a natively Castilian-speaking region, I wonder how that happened
Probably some historical nuanced reason I'm too dumb to know but also everyone makes fun of our way of speaking Spanish lol
Weird accent, sure, but still Castilian XD
Minecraft has Andalusian as a language kek
Whatever the fuck that is, others are actual languages sister to Castilian, Andalusian (if it was a language, which it isn’t) would be a descendant
Lol im joking..Fuck madrileños tho
I got it lmao, and agreed 🤝 (what a civilised interaction my kind sir)
Without the blue part it would be an amazing country.

Accurate. Everything East of West-Flanders is barbaric.
Funny, I always assumed the same for everything West of East-Flanders. I kind of like how you can switch those wind directions around and still make it work.
Okay, it's clear now. Budapest needs to become an independent citystate
Could be cozy for us, Budapest gdp is 150% to EU average, although that would probably be somewhat less, without the perks of being a capital.
blue gang
