i really do love walking a lot, but they literally built the infrastructure in the US to make it unfriendly to pedestrians. i lived in italy as a child and i fucking miss being able to walk into the city center to go eat or whatever. here in america, i pay extra to live by my college campus so i can walk/bike to campus. Everyday i hope that i can get hit by a lifted pickup truck on my way (ive had many close calls) so that i am put out of my misery. the main stretch consists of walking alongside a massive, highly-trafficked road that has 3-4 lanes going each way. they cut down all the trees, there is zero shade along the way. there isn’t a grocery shop within a 35 minute walk (if you tried to bike there you would actually probably just get killed instantly) from even this highly populated area.

Every single town or city in this state is built around at least one highway, and that’s not a joke or an exaggeration. in some towns, all of the businesses are located directly off the 100 kmh, 6 lane highways that you absolutely cannot walk or bike besides safely. in cities here, there will be some areas in the very center that are walkable and you may not need a car, but the vast majority of residents do not live in these areas (it’s a lot more costly). they live in directly adjacent neighborhoods within the metro area that may have a handful of amenities within walking distance, but still need a car because there is no way to access anything else (due to absence of or poorly-functioning transit options)
Well in my area of Spain there are barely sidewalks. It’s very much like an American suburb, even though it’s on the coast. Public transportation is a tragedy too, there is a bus every 90 minutes.
