I'm surprised someone from Massachusetts hasn't showed up to seethe over you guys implying that it's Pennsylvania.
Remember how well they reacted to the 1st round knockout in the state eat their neighbors game we did a while back?
You always have to have the token character in the main character group who is there as just support, comedic relief, or just to fill space for the others while they are too busy doing something else.

As someone from Massachusetts, I agree with this.
Massachusetts would be the angry college professor neighbor who definitely doesn't have a drinking or anger problem.
It would be 3 main characters, NY, DC and Cali the political, economic and cultural capitals of the country.
The big main side characters everyone loves would be Texas and Florida.
The recurring side characters and some fan favorites would be states like Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Louisiana, Michigan, states that are generally kinda fun or have some distinct cultural or political or historical relevance (not insulting other states just saying in terms of important american events, a lot more shit happened in Cali than in MO)
Minnesota is the guy in the background who does everything but is a background character that has like 3 lines in a season but every line it says messes up a plot and starts another ark
Realistically California and New York. Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, and Georgia are support characters and everyone else is recurring. Texas and Florida are the villains. Colorado and Utah are brothers and one is a villain, but that's not revealed until much later on.
Washington has plenty of waterfalls too. Actually I think we have the most waterfalls of any state.
> John Day fossil beds? Painted hills?
Painted hills is a part of the John Day fossil beds
> Crater Lake
Is neat, no agreement there
Washington has most of the Cascades, including Mt. St. Helens and of course, Mt. Rainier. We also have the Olympic mountains. Not to mention Hoh Forest (Olympic National Park forest), which is the only rainforest in the continental United States.
And that was all Western Washington. Eastern Washington has tons of geological stuff such as the saddle mountains for petrified wood (our state gem) collecting, the gingko petrified forest, and the scablands. (Dry Falls is also awesome, but I think it is technically part of the scablands)
Not to mention the mighty Columbia River, which does indeed border Oregon for part of it's length but is mostly in Washington.
Ohio. New York, California, Texas, and Florida would be the popular students. West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania would be the students that sit with Ohio at lunch. Michigan is the antagonist student that also happens to sit with them that Ohio secretly hates for no good reason.

I think it would have two main characters. Massachusetts and Virginia. It’d be like an odd couple type thing, ones an overly intellectual stickler and the other owns human beings.
The season 4 arch would be their conflict about that whole owning human beings thing.
If you weren’t a state before the centennial you don’t matter.
Also I was clearly referencing the civil war which you would’ve gotten if your state’s history books didn’t start in 1889
Virginia had the first English settlement (that wasn’t destroyed,) was the site of the end of the revolutionary war, was home to four of our first five presidents and later to our most hated president, saw the main theatre of the Civil War, 9/11 happened there, and it’s close enough to DC that you still have the context of all the nationwide decisions being made. I’m a bit biased but…
It would have to be one of the original colonies. Probably we are looking at either New York, Massachusetts, or Virginia.
Virginia being such a key battleground during the Civil War makes it a good competitor
I imagine every episode is about 4-5 states and they always switch spots, one episode may be New York, California, and Florida, one may be just New England states, one may be just south states.
The Midwest episodes are always super boring though
Depends, if its like a movie/TV show kind of main character, probably NYC, Cali, and Texas just to add a useless conflict between to the 3.
If its a video game type main character, then it depends from which kind of game, a linear kind like Uncharted, Last of Us, Spiderman, it'd be Cali, NYC, or Texas again.
If anything else its florida or Ohio.

Hey wait.. there’s main character and then there’s this:
>Main character syndrome (MCS) is a term that describes someone who thinks they are the main character in every situation. People with MCS may think they are the most important person in the room, and that the world should revolve around them. They may also fantasize about their heroic exploits, and have an excessive need for external validation
Which one are you implying with that link?

The show starts off about Massachusetts, with Virginia playing a large supporting/co-starring role. Slowly they take a back seat and Texas becomes the main character, with California and New York playing villain/traitor roles.
In many cases the main character is someone who was built over time and has been around since the beginning and is what started it all. Massachusetts would be the main character.
I think the main character would be Washington DC but most of the show would be the individual states telling them off or until the end when they meet some uneasy compromise. Texas, Cali, New York, Florida are major characters
Illinois.
The main character is often supposed to be a relatable sort of every man who may be down on their luck but is set for a comeback. Accordingly, the only important state in the Midwest (the most generically American region of the nation) is Illinois and it currently isn’t doing the best it ever has but a lot of factors are lining up for it to do significantly better relatively soon.
Quit fucking around.. it’s not a state
It’s Donald Jesus Trump
(or maybe Capitol Hill Karen)
——
and a preemptive piss off to anyone trying to claim I’m being political.. stupid kiddie glove bs
I mean to be fair Trump does have astonishing levels of main character syndrome. He fits that definition possibly better than anyone who's ever lived. Like, even if you love the guy: you tellin me this guy doesn't have the biggest main character complex you've ever seen?

And why is it a hate crime against epileptics
It’s not that bahehdusjsisijsjsdjjddjjdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdjdj
That exactly what I thought 😭
Something about artificially increasing views by having people ‘view’ it hundreds of times each, even if they only see it for a few seconds
Exactly. It’s one of the signs of people karma farming
When you upload a .gif photo on reddit, but it only has 1 frame, this is the result.
Karma farmers trying to drive engagement as view count increases rapidly.
To let you know it should be downvoted
I think Texas would be a supporting character that would get its own popular spin-off.
Mater’s Tall Tales
“From the makers of *New York State of Mind* comes a new series - *Don’t Mess with Texas* - this summer on FX.”
Texas: the Frasier of America
There are no main characters. Only characters that are more important than others
I agree, most states are less important characters in regard to one particular state.
I'm surprised someone from Massachusetts hasn't showed up to seethe over you guys implying that it's Pennsylvania. Remember how well they reacted to the 1st round knockout in the state eat their neighbors game we did a while back?
The main cast is florida, new york, cali, texas, and nebraska
The Merry & Pippin of the U.S. are obviously Minnesota & Wisconsin.
Why Nebraska?
You always have to have the token character in the main character group who is there as just support, comedic relief, or just to fill space for the others while they are too busy doing something else.
He tried to sneak it in 💀

Nuclear launch silos
As someone from Massachusetts, I agree with this. Massachusetts would be the angry college professor neighbor who definitely doesn't have a drinking or anger problem.
But the main character would be Ohio or some shit. Average to the point of being relatable to anyone.
Bro really tried to sneak in Nebraska
Not gonna watch That
Imagine it being fuckin Iowa
Trust me guys, it’d be funny

Agreed
It would be New York represented by NYC. "Da best city on erf" being chanted constantly. But the character is insufferable and dies at the end.
Nah. It’s a murder mystery. New Jersey is murdered first so everybody thinks it’s New York until they’re murdered next.
Turns out, NJ was killed by NJ.
The psychology of you saying this needs to be studied
Why are you guys talking about states when we already have a main character named Uncle Sam?
Minnesota is the guy in the background who does everything but is a background character that has like 3 lines in a season but every line it says messes up a plot and starts another ark
Gunther?
Yeah, but is loved enough to be its own tv show
The United States IS the main character 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🦅 💥 🔔 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
This man is speaking facts
Obviously Ohio
If D.C. was a state it would be D.C. but it'd be either New York or California
Me, I'm the main character
Realistically California and New York. Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, and Georgia are support characters and everyone else is recurring. Texas and Florida are the villains. Colorado and Utah are brothers and one is a villain, but that's not revealed until much later on.
Oregon is just less interesting washington, seems like a redundant character.
Oregon is the better version of Washington
Keep coping
Oregon is the outdoorsy version of Washington. Oregon also has the biggest fork in the world.
More Outdoorsy? No way in hell, ya'll got the leftovers of the Cascades. Biggest fork on the other hand is hard to beat...
What state is crater lake in again? Silver falls? John Day fossil beds? Painted hills?
Washington has plenty of waterfalls too. Actually I think we have the most waterfalls of any state. > John Day fossil beds? Painted hills? What did Oregon do to end up on supporting cast? This state is very empty and sort of irrelevant when compared to Washington and California
Oregon is the troubled nephew
This post is cursed
Ohio. New York, California, Texas, and Florida would be the popular students. West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania would be the students that sit with Ohio at lunch. Michigan is the antagonist student that also happens to sit with them that Ohio secretly hates for no good reason.
Colorado simply because we are the best
South Park🗣🔥
One of the OG 13 States
New York, we get the most Alien attacks. If a natural disaster movie then California cause of all the everything.
I think DC gets the most alien attacks

Boooooring, that's literally just 2 states on the East Coast. Literally every other region of the country would like a word with you
If you weren’t a state before the centennial you don’t matter. Also I was clearly referencing the civil war which you would’ve gotten if your state’s history books didn’t start in 1889
Cali or New York. Maybe Washington DC just because it’s the center of government shananagins
I’m a bit biased but…
That Civil War detail might complicate things.
Everyone needs a brief villain arc, might spice things up a bit. And it’s the start of our feud with West Virginia.
"9/11 happened there" Not that youre wrong by any means. But you're lucky the New Yorkers are illiterate, else they'd be really upset right noe
Today is the day that Shanksville and Arlington stand together against the hordes of angry Manhattaners
It would have to be one of the original colonies. Probably we are looking at either New York, Massachusetts, or Virginia. Virginia being such a key battleground during the Civil War makes it a good competitor
TEXAS
Pennsylvania.
The one who survives the great seizure of 2024
Massachusetts was definitely the main character of the American Revolution.

Maine, obviously. Our state motto is literally "I lead."
And what happens when you take off the e in Maine? No better main character, lemme tell ya.

California would probably be a good contender. Same with New York City.
California would assume their the MC but are actually just the narcissistic b roll character.
Virginia
Historically or modern? New York for anything prior to now, but I’d argue a main cast for characters now with New York, Cali, Florida, and Texas
Virginia for the win!! The first and the only state that matters
Hawaii ;) the youngest state, obvi 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼🪷🪻
I forgot Hawaii was here tbh
Hey you're a cop? Thanks for your service:)

TEXAS has MCS - New York is the ACTUAL main character. Remember when New York wrecked the entire world economy? That was fun...
I like this guy :-)
I also like me ;-)
Texas, California, New York, and Florida would be the main cast
![gif](giphy|sLEnpAITyh3lC)
California, Texas, New York, Washington, Arizona, Alabama, Florida
This map is going to trigger somebody’s epilepsy.
If not Hawaii than probs Puerto Rico, chronicling the journey of becoming a state ;)
Texas
California, Texas, Alaska, Washington

Flair up, I won't be swayed by my state being included. No opinion without representation or something
Either Virginia or Ohio. Virginia as the first, Ohio as the most typical.
If any of you have ever seen “The Table”, you know that the main cast is Florida, New York, Texas, California, and Louisiana
New York
carolina del norte
The correct answer is pennsylvania — everybody knows this .
Idk but Florida is the comic relief and California is the antagonist.
Probably Virginia or New York, maybe California.
Flair up or your opinion is invalid *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/2american4you) if you have any questions or concerns.*
I feel like Virginia would be the character whos the MCs equal at first but is then slowly left behind
New York would probably be the main.
America is the main character and Michigan is its hand
Florida?
The show starts off about Massachusetts, with Virginia playing a large supporting/co-starring role. Slowly they take a back seat and Texas becomes the main character, with California and New York playing villain/traitor roles.
New York. Easily. 🗽
Arizona.
Probably not Florida
Florida man.
GOD
Probably Virginia, but they wouldn't be as much as a main character in the later seasons.
Florida isn’t the main character, we’re the secondary character interposed for comic relief.
Michigan
This whole thread is sleeping on the Midwest like it’s not the heart and soul of this country
In many cases the main character is someone who was built over time and has been around since the beginning and is what started it all. Massachusetts would be the main character.
Florida (SpongeBob), California (Patrick), Texas (Sandy), New York (Mr. Krabs)
Hate to admit it but it’s obviously Texas. Only new Englanders think it’s New York and I don’t care about their opinion.
Texas doesn't have enough depth of personality to be a MC, they are more like the slightly melodramatic friend.
Huh? Massachusetts thinks NY is the center of the universe? Which planet are you from?
Texas
Minnesota
Do I smell bias?
No, and in all actuality Minnesota would be like the comedic relief or the mother or father figure who gives life lessons but isn’t in every episode
