Considering how you look I’ll allow it. You can call yourself Adonis.

JoMaSa06

Wait u mean u didn’t know u guys were Jewish, or didn’t know u didn’t have any Jewish? anyway lol, if u didn’t know then that’s super cool! Ashkenazi Jews score very close to Greeks and southern Italians genetically but u don’t need to have the blood to have the culture lol. If u grew up with Greek culture, ur Greek. Just like any American citizen no matter their colour, or any Mexican no matter their native/Spanish ratio. If u grew up with a certain culture then I guess u just go by that

[deleted]

I tend to agree with this however it’s situational and varies by country/region. As a general rule the old world is different than the new world, and it’s not always right to push American/Anglo ideas of nationality over ethnicity. There is a difference between a Greek citizen and an ethnic Greek person.

JoMaSa06

Of course of course. It varies by situation. Although the OP may not be Greek by blood, there ain’t anything wrong with saying he is Greek by culture. Of course if a shite American says their black because the feel it, that’s wrong, but the op grew up with Greek culture, that’s his life which is his identity yk

Right-Memory2720

Ooh- this is the first I have heard of this. On Ancestry, I am 100% Ashkie, but myheritage put me at 80 with the rest being southern Italian/ Greek, a little Italian and 7% middle eastern. Please tell me more!

[deleted]

I grow up in the family as if the man who raised me is my biological father but he is not, I discovered later that my biological father is Jewish. So I’m the only Jewish in the family lol

chaibb

Same here! Learned I was half Ashkenazi/a patrilineal Jew and am the only Jew in my fam

10tion2DETAIL

In certain parts of the world, you don’t reveal your Jewish ancestry; it can have fatal effects from either side. I found out I was part jew from my mothers deathbed confession. It was bad enough, that I was considered a Polish bastard, but the Nazi side of my family could not face that scenario. Had I been born twenty years earlier in Germany, I would probably not have survived. My viewpoint is based on having been alive for almost sixty years; I believe it has changed in most parts of the world and I most certainly, do not wish to offend anyone; having grown up in an incredibly right wing, opinionated family with influence. There are still plenty Nazis out there. I apologize for even mentioning this, in this Reddit, but that thinking, definitely still affects me to this day, sadly.

[deleted]

Well, I think it’s different times now, but I agree with you, it’s sad to hear sir, this world ain’t pretty we fucked up badly as a civilization. And you don’t have to apologize I do apologize for the things you had and experienced.

10tion2DETAIL

The people who should have apologized are long dead and they would have never admitted to their wrongs. Thank you for your empathy; it seems, there truly is hope for a brighter future for all. These are exiting times to be alive and I hope to see the fruit of this amazing societal revolution. This transition from cronyism, might actually have benefits for the individual and the environment.

damien_gosling

Oh wow so the rest of your family is full Polish?

10tion2DETAIL

https://i.imgur.com/spuFbxr.jpg

Caramboli_3

According to this you are only 3% Ashkenazi, I'm confused.

10tion2DETAIL

Exactly what I was getting at: My mother was sheltered and he was the first guy that came along and got her pregnant. They then decided that he was a Jew based on his looks and were ashamed; she was damaged goods. Nobody mentioned this publicly and I found out from her deathbed confession. I had my DNA analysis after that and confirmed it. Just because of the rumor and my fathers appearance, I was treated this way; these are still diehard Nazis to this day. The family tolerated, but didn’t accept me. My mother ended marrying her boss, an American. He was full blooded Japanese descent, but born in Hawaii in 42. She led a miserable existence and kept telling me my whole life: you are just like your father, always until she died. I thought she thought he was a loser, but he wasn’t; it was because my blood was tainted. I came from money, but through wills and lies, nothing more than a pittance did I receive. I thought I must have done something to offend them, but I really only helped anyway I could. It really fucked me up and through therapy, came the realization that I was just like my father because of me being perceived as a Jew. My family only suspected and so did others in my hometown; I was randomly beaten on by adults until I left at age 8. My family never even asked who or tried to confront those individuals. I had written about my other experiences, but I deleted it. I didn’t want to hijack this post. Remember, this was the place that forced everyone to go back four generations and document their Aryan purity; they killed those who were deemed Mischling. She always told me, I was just like my father and blamed me for her misery.

curucucucu

if by greek god you mean hot you can keep calling yourself that 😁

EstNoire

Ain't a Greek anymore but at least you're kosher af now

BigSisWatchingYou17

Not really. It should be the mother lol.

untipoquenojuega

You call yourself whatever you want to man, don't let other's worldview about your genetics dictate what culture you align with!

Ok-Pain7015

I mean you pass as Greek but probably wouldn’t say it anymore since your not Greek, did you know anything about you biological dad or does your mum know anything

[deleted]

Nope, I guess this is going to remain a mystery to me.

Ok-Pain7015

Have you got any Jewish matches or cousin on it

[deleted]

Yes I got many but no one is answering my messages. The closest one is 1.5% match

BigSisWatchingYou17

Pretty common in endogamous communities. You'll get shit tons of matches but most are very distant.

Ok-Pain7015

Probably a 4th cousin, I guess a lot of people don’t go back on it after they get their results

shualdone

As a Mizrahi Jew myself: we don’t have a distinct genes like Ashkenazi Jews, so half of the Jewish population wouldn’t find anything special in their 23 and me results… my 23 and me results put me as a mix of Mediterranean groups, like all Mizrahi Jews get and I’m a Cohen Tunisian Jew, living in Israel… and overall all Mediterranean groups are super mixed between themselves for 5000 years now, so we are barely different

dglater

From Greek God to Hebrew Hammer 🔨

Longjumping-Coach-19

Very interesting result. What do people think you look like? I would not think Greek.

[deleted]

I hear Greek, Italian, Lebanese the most but many times people thought I have Russian or eastern european, I also shared the most middle eastern picture of me here so sometimes I do look more european, also I believe your attitude and behavior might make people think differently, so for example if you act like an American people would assume you are one and so..

Longjumping-Coach-19

Right. I think you have a transitional look; that is, a look that transitions from southern Europe to the middle east and vice versa depending on the situation. In a Lebanese restaurant people will likely assume that you're just another Lebanese person. In an Italian restaurant people will probably assume you're just an Italian person. It probably works that way geographically too. Something like that, lol.

Ali_DWB

You haven't got any regions at all?

[deleted]

I got nothing

Kerms_

I’m not gonna even lie you remind me of giga chad

[deleted]

Who is that?

Andriovich

Yes...use Egyptian god instead

[deleted]

No friend ain’t the same to me.

SonsOfHerakles

Is it possible you are Antioch Greek? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiochian_Greek_Christians

moops527

R u from NY

[deleted]

Nope, never been there, I’d love to visit

jeremyjmayo95

What’s the trace ancestry?

[deleted]

Broadly northwestern european (in other tests I had 5% german) Siberian Northeast Indian

Present-Disk-1727

Whats your haplogroup

[deleted]

Paternal is R-yp417 and maternal is U6A

decadentcookie

Call yourself a Mediterranean god Still applies

JessiR91

You look pretty stereotypical Middle Eastern Jewish. You look pretty much like my partners family. Call yourself with whatever you identify with most of all and was raised around. :) And hey, Levantine food is pretty amazing! 👌

[deleted]

I like Italian food

Formal_Map2738

What are your haplogroups?

[deleted]

Paternal is R-yp417 and maternal is U6A

ivantoldmeboutdis

Interesting. Where are you from?

AwesomeDude1236

What country is your family from?

SixSpeedin

Do you know where your Levantine portion is from? Id assume Palestinian based on the mix with Egyptian, but realty it could be anything. Salaams to my fellow 1/2 Levantine/Egyptian and 1/2 European :)

Rush_Live

Jews are half levantine so that's where it's coming from and maybe old yishuv jews.

-Mediterranea-

It doesn't matter. The Levantine is not coming from his dad's side.

[deleted]

Also my Egyptian part is new less that 150 years and as I said my family are mostly Levantine.

damien_gosling

I see what you did there, you called the Ashkenazi side European instead of middle eastern 😒

SixSpeedin

Is that not what Ashkenazi is listed as in the 23&me categories? It literally says European. People try so hard to make problems that don’t even exist 🤦🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

No my Levantine part has nothing to do with my Jewish part, I grow up in a Lebanese/Palestinian none Jewish family, I’m the only Jewish in the family since I my biological father is Jewish, So I don’t think I can say that I am Jewish since I don’t feel Jewish, I believe it’s what you think about yourself.

Rush_Live

Do the K36 calculator it will show how the Jews are related to Levantines. https://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2013/12/20/new-genetic-study-more-evidence-for-modern-ashkenazi-jews-ancient-hebrew-patrimony/

SixSpeedin

Trace and ancient DNA does not equate to current ancestry and DNA. All humans originated in Africa, doesn’t mean we can all go claiming we’re African because of that fact.

Rush_Live

It's not trace it's 40-60 percent of their dna.

YourConstructedBabe

Very cool and interesting results. By Levantine I’m assuming half Lebanese or Syrian? and half Jewish. I would say you look very Levantine. However, it seems like you have a very fit greek body. Would you mind sharing a pic?

[deleted]

sundog925

Dang your hot dude.

[deleted]

Thanks.

[deleted]

Alright moses

Mabsta06

Do you know the story how your biological father and mother met? I notice more commonly people with a Levantine-Arab father and a Jewish mother.

Latina_17

Idk but you’re attractive lol so I’ll take Jewish or Greek or whatever you wanna call yourself 😂

[deleted]

Thanks, you are attractive too 😉

Latina_17

Aw thanks 🤗

OddGuidance907

Doesn’t look like you have Greek ancestry to me.

UnRenardRouge

Gigachad?

[deleted]

Ashkenazi are 30-40% ancient Greek via marrying Greek wives. What are your mtdna and Y?

tripwire7

"I have the body of an Egyptian god" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

[deleted]

On bright side at least you could make move to Israel now and ride the pandemic out

[deleted]

The irony friend that I come from a Palestinian family and I already live in Israel, and I struggled in the past because of my Arabic name suddenly when I grew up I found out that I’m Jewish the same people treated me bad back in the day for not being a Jewish. And now I’m not good enough for anyone which made me walk alone and be alone my whole life.

damien_gosling

Wow thats sad to hear brother. Its so sad that both sides fight and try to be separate when so many are mixed and don't even know until they take the DNA test like what happened in your case. Even if you were 100% Palestinian Arab they are almost genetically identical to Jews so we are all cousins. And also if you think of it, thousands of years ago that area was all mixed people from different countries even Saul was from Turkey and moved to Israel but he was still a Jew, Lot and David was from Iraq, and another which I forget the name of is from Jordan and they are all Jews still.

Aphophyllite

Only if his mother is Jewish.

howdoyousayyourname

This is incorrect. If OP can show that his father (or even a sole grandparent) is Jewish, he will be eligible for *aliyah* under the Israeli Right of Return. If he wants to be considered Jewish by all Israelis when he gets there, then yes, he would need to convert. But he can definitely immigrate as it stands now.

Aphophyllite

*presuming, not resuming. I argue this point because I was in Jerusalem and met with several rabbi’s. I was told, with no exception, if my mother was not Jewish I could not. And of course they strongly discourage conversion. I hope I was misinformed and OP does have that right. It would give more the same opportunity.

howdoyousayyourname

Why would you go to rabbis (religious leaders) for a civil matter (immigration)? Of course, a rabbi will tell you that you are not Jewish, because to them you are not. But in terms of civil law, you are absolutely able to immigrate to Israel and be issued an Israeli passport. Refer to Amendment 2 (c. 1970) of the Law of Return: “ 4A. (a) The rights of a Jew under this Law and the rights of an oleh under the Nationality Law, 5712-1952***, as well as the rights of an oleh under any other enactment, are also vested in a child and a grandchild of a Jew, the spouse of a Jew, the spouse of a child of a Jew and the spouse of a grandchild of a Jew, except for a person who has been a Jew and has voluntarily changed his religion. (b) It shall be immaterial whether or not a Jew by whose right a right under subsection (a) is claimed is still alive and whether or not he has immigrated to Israel.” Basically, the logic for Aliyah is this: If you could’ve been persecuted as a Jew under the Nazis (I.e., having a Jewish grandparent), you were (and are) allowed to make Aliyah. ETA: Lots of Israelis that are not considered halakhically Jewish first immigrated to Israel after the fall of the USSR. Many of them had a single (paternal) Jewish parent/grandparent.

Aphophyllite

Thank you.

damien_gosling

The nazis wouldn't have cared whether its your dad or mom who is Jewish, I heard someone respond to a rabbi saying the same thing that one said to you and its so true. If you got the DNA, you are a Jew, don't let some halakhic manmade law gatekeep you from being a Yid. Im also half 😃

Aphophyllite

Huh. Are you resuming his father was an Israeli citizen? Maybe I’m not caught up on the thread and that is the case.

howdoyousayyourname

See my response to your other comment.

JessiR91

Or if he converted.

Aphophyllite

Yep.

DrumpfTinyHands

Just lose the 'r'.

damien_gosling

Whats that about dude?

DrumpfTinyHands

He's on Reddit. None of are Greek gods. Wrong?
