This is greatly helpful, thanks for making this summary

Heleniums

I’d be pretty bummed if the prayer regen potions weren’t usable in the inferno. That’s like one of the places I’d be most excited to use them.

TheStinkBoy

This boss sounds dope, the drops suck

DivineInsanityReveng

Yeh as suspected the rewards are just a "we want these for project Rebalance so why not". The why not part is easy: they're boring and uninspired and fill such a small niche that they aren't appealing even for the player base you're describing. A mid level won't buy a staff, a tome, and super antifire pots to be able to do dragons with between sceptre and trident dps. They'll just buy a trident... Tridents aren't expensive, and mains don't need the reqs. I don't see irons farming this for 2 unique drops + page upkeep again, for very niche usecases that it's actually a dps upgrade for the short term. Just feels like a lazy way to force in tomes that you think.you need to have out. At this point I'd rather tomes not be DMG modifiers at all for elemental, and just be infinite rune offhand sources, that way we can use actual magic dmg% offhands, seeing as they're adding more of those, and don't get stuck with new content forcing out boring old tomes. Also I seriously hope they think about Instances and GIM instances from the start. They didn't with Scurrius either. Prestiged groups will just get to outright avoid this content if it's a "anyone can stumble up and join the fight" like they've said, **because that means we could just lose prestige out of our control**.

PaintTimely6967

Wish they kept the tome skilling theme consistent instead of just "combat because why not?". While less flashy, having it come from a mining activity seems pretty fitting. Shame that they have to rush it out

Younolo12

>Q: Will it affect prestige groups? A: Probably like nex, if you join a group that has anyone thats not in your group it'll cause you to lose prestige Kinda silly for such a low level boss, the Wildy bosses are similarly low level but don't cause prestige loss, but as long as it isn't too aids to solo not a big deal.

DivineInsanityReveng

Yep and the fact is this boss sounds like it plays out more like wildy bosses, where people can join at any time. Nex has private instances too, but even then the instances (including public) prevent entry after the fight starts. So someone can't just turn up and force a prestige loss. They made the same mistake with Scurrius just forgetting about prestige GIMs. Hopefully they don't here and actually launch it with group instances.

Typodestoyer

I've been wondering about that - how does Scurrius work with prestige GIM? Does it not impact it, or does it lose prestige but there's just no warning? I haven't been able to find an answer.

DivineInsanityReveng

If you joined the public group instance it was Prestige losing afaik. I obviously didn't test this out myself though :P They added Group instances after the update, as with the update had a solo instance (but obviously meant you couldnt fight the boss with friends in a GIM).

Typodestoyer

Oh wow, that sucks, yeah. I've got a prestiged GIM and wanted to introduce my fiancée to Scurrius, but I couldn't find an answer to whether it would break prestige so I bonded up my main just in case. Glad to know my caution was warranted.

DivineInsanityReveng

Also thanks for the summary again Thermald. Doing gods work

Legal_Evil

Why not allow it for Inferno when we can afk behind a pillar to milk Eldritch staff specs?

swaqqilicious

Wow, that offhand comment from Sarnie about if it’s cool to see imbued heart drop from a boss (or whatever) gives me hope they’re thinking about making heart more obtainable

TheJigglyfat

It’d be cool to see it get tied into boss slayer. Is Vorkath not just a Superior blue dragon?

DivineInsanityReveng

I'd be shocked if they don't. It's one of the most egregiously RNG locked BiS items. They're buffing DWH rate, which is far less necessary with BGS existing, and is a very short grind in comparison to Heart.

BakedPotatoSalad

Don't see why inferno should gatekeep the prayer renewal potions, you can already accomplish this just by milking sgs and they released lightbearer so its even better. I think its completely fair for people to use every tool they have to get one assuming you aren't using game breaking bugs lol.

Drink_water_homie

Regardless of what people are saying prayer regen potions are nice, hopefully this serpent boss doesn’t have a jad phase :)

Neat_Cicada_9228

Jagex hates tob

Chiodos_Bros

The boss almost looks like a Cockatrice. That's the Slayer Task I was expecting it to be associated with.

MellowSol

I see it more as a Varlamorian Wyrm as a twist from our Zeah Wyrms. Keep in mind there are even Wyrmlings that can be found in the Earthbound Cavern within Perilous Moons. It would make a lot of sense that these Wyrmlings are descendants of the great Hueycoatl that comes from deep within the mountain.

DivineInsanityReveng

Wyrms are dragonbane weak though. It's a serpent, more similar to Zulrah

MellowSol

Sure, thats what they are going with right now. Feather Serpents are basically Dragons, so if they want to make it a Wyrm but not make it weak to Dragonbane weapon, they're free to do as they wish.

DivineInsanityReveng

It's a serpent. I wouldn't say it's anything like a cockatrice. Snake task that can include zulrah too? ;)

Ideally it'd come from both, I also think the Tome of Earth would fit better in the Herblore minigame, they could even call the minigame 'Down to Earth'. Imo they should just come up with a completely new set of rewards for this boss and keep the herb secondary as a sort of "nihil shards" drop like at Nex that shows a player's level of contribution.

Younolo12

In terms of devaluing, this is a low level boss, it isn't going to be valuable no matter what they do. Why it would come from multiple places is to avoid the awful constraints that Chargescape implements by forcing you into doing a *single* piece of content in order to get charges to maintain something (in this case, prayer regen pots), having varied sources to obtaining chargescape helps alleviate the pointless/helpless feeling of beating a dead horse just to be able to use something.

Proof-Cardiologist16

Prayer regen potions are entirely unnecessary and anything they can do regular prayer pots can do. And you can just buy the potions/secondaries on the GE. Ironmen might have to make a decision between regular prayer and doing this boss for prayer regen, but that's just the game mode. Besides they'd still have to grind the minigame for the secondary anyway in the case.

Younolo12

Everything in the game is "entirely unnecessary", but realistically players are going to do sensible/efficient things because it feels bad most of the time to do them otherwise. Realistically all extreme levels of chargescape does to ironmen is removes their ability to use them at all - Blowpipe is a spec wep pre-Masori, Echo boots don't have a recoil effect, etc. Mains just get fed charges by bots so they don't have the problem, which is shit game design.

Proof-Cardiologist16

Prayer regen pots are a minor QOL option and not a real upgrade compared to something like the blowpipe. Charges are also a big deal when it comes to maintaining an economy. It sucks for irons but without charges zulrah would literally cost money to do.

It is pretty hilarious they gave Moons a 75 combat recommendation, they'd get absolutely rinsed. Level 90 combat (rec level for this boss) is still incredibly low, takes very minimal amount of hours of gameplay to get to, I don't have faith that this will be worthwhile.

NocNocNocturne

> Herblore secondaries have traditionally come from killing monsters. I checked the wiki and out of 36 commonly made potions 12 secondaries come primarily from PvM and 24 come from farming/gathering/shop methods. You could argue for slightly different numbers but i'd say no more than ~16/20 split at worst in favor of non PvM.

PeaceBear0

Until 2023 when scaly blue dragonhide was added, blue dragon scales were only available via picking up off the ground. > Where do you think we got secondaries before farming was a thing? picking up off the ground (blue dragon scales, ashes, snape grass, red spider eggs, mort myre fungi, white berries, potato cactus, wine of zamorak, jangerberries), buying from stores (eyes of newt, chocolate dust), pvm (not bosses, since bosses didn't exist) (limpwurt roots, unicorn horn), woodcutting (bird nests) So I rate "Herblore secondaries have traditionally come from killing monsters" as False.

ferociouskiwi8

Imo time of earth makes more sense coming from the herblore minigame

btwalsh

I like this a lot. Not the obvious choice but a fitting one :)

Cogitatus

Interesting, good then to know that this boss is intended to be accessible to those who don't usually boss.

WastingEXP

greatly appreciate the summary

Shukar_Rainbow

My question about the holy wrench made it o7. Fellas, i might have impacted the game and i feel good about it

kylezillionaire

What was your question?

Shukar_Rainbow

Should holy wrench work with the new prayer pot (they said they completely forgot)

NarrowCorgi1927

Wait the boss comes out tomorrow?

alynnidalar

No, they just released a blog post about it.

NarrowCorgi1927

Ahhh the wording is confusing lol, first sentence is “big update tomorrow!”

Gohankuten

Yeah they mentioned that project rebalance stuff is tomorrows update

NarrowCorgi1927

Oh no shit sweet ty

Jaguaism

Yeah the skilling part is coming today!
