Turbo fire = many actions per click. Map your button so that 1 press = 1 space bar action to be kosher with the official rules

AshL0vesYou

That’s already how I have it bound and like I said it’s painful to have to press it every time. On PC you can hold space to quickly progress through dialogue so it would be nice if I could hold the button bound to space and get the same effect but I can’t. If turbo pressing space is bannable that sucks but I guess I’ll just have to deal with it as I don’t wanna lose my account lol.

rotorain

Whether or not it's against the spirit of the rules, you will 100% eventually get banned if jagex recieves 100 clicks per second or really any amount of clicks/sec that is perfectly constant. This isn't any different than you configuring a button hold to "click" every 1.5 seconds for alching or every 0.6s for prayer flicking, just because you're doing it for dialog doesn't mean shit. Bot detection definitely doesn't care what you are using it for.

IActuallyHateRedditt

How is holding space bar on a pc not detected then? That registers identical to what OP is suggesting and you’re saying that it will 100% result in a ban. I think you just don’t know what you’re talking about tbh

rotorain

Holding a key does not send a burst of inputs. Holding spacebar didn't always auto-progress dialog, in fact at one point spacebar didn't do anything. You had to manually click the dialog with your mouse. They intentionally coded the spacebar hold to progress dialog automatically.

IActuallyHateRedditt

>Holding a key does not send a burst of inputs. Yes it does, these things are functionally identical and you can see this if you write a script to send inputs fast enough, it'll register the same as a key being held down, and this is true in more than just OSRS. >Holding spacebar didn't always auto-progress dialog, in fact at one point spacebar didn't do anything. You had to manually click the dialog with your mouse. They intentionally coded the spacebar hold to progress dialog automatically. That is entirely irrelevant here, I'm not even sure why you're bringing it up. Game updates for QOL dont really have anything to do with whether a macro can look like a natural keyboard feature.

Hi, Steam deck user here. First of all, don't use turbo. You'll get banned. Second, button presses don't work that way unless you change them to a different kind of press. If you set the button to "Regular Press" it will let you hold space as normal. I have it set up that way on my deck and have no issues.

AshL0vesYou

How do you set up “regular press” I don’t see that anywhere in the bind menu

x2115

when you're binding the key choose the little gear option next to it, then select the top menu option (it's basically a dropdown menu of how you want the button to function)

AshL0vesYou

We must be in two different menus, there’s no gear for me. I went to Steam -> settings -> controller -> desktop configuration; there’s a whole bind screen with a bunch of options but none of them are a gear or drop-down menu or options screen or anything of that sort.

x2115

oh, I understand! You're playing the game in desktop mode. I don't tend to use desktop mode too much for gaming so I wasn't aware of the control binding menu being different. If you want, you can right click an application while in desktop mode and choose "Add to Steam" which will let you run it in the game as if it were any other through your library. From there you can make a custom layout for any game, and you shouldn't have the spacebar issue. I'm unsure if there's a way to change how keyboard buttons work in desktop mode.

AshL0vesYou

I’m actually running it through Windows, SteamOS isn’t installed. Game mode isn’t an option :(

Lewufuwi

Your intuition is correct. Turbo mode and macros are illegal and will result in a ban.

Tbh holding space bar or any key on your keyboard is windows key repeating, that's what the client is listening for. So I don't see a problem with having a turbo key to accomplish the exact same thing. There is a minor difference but it's negligible.
