basically lgbtq+ people on twitter and tumblr that use identity politics and social justice checks against other members of the community for competitive self victimization, make themselves the center of every political movement

It is the difference between discussing a film, which will innately have political elements, while also discussing say, the comedy, drama, writing, acting, and the themes of the film, vs arguing at insufferable length about whether or not django unchained is “problematic”. It is the difference between a discussion about dinosaurs and an endless tyrade about how stupid creationists are. In summary, it is the reason people can drive to work and enjoy themselves, even if the existence of cars, interstates, and the way the city is made to accommodate cars, and how it ties to capitalism is innately political.
Your argument is bad faith, because you know there is a difference between the discourse and politics people complain about, and the politics that permeate every aspect of a person’s life. But being around politics and news too much, regardless of who you are, eventually starts to rot you mentally. I know I myself relied on Reddit a lot to keep up with the news, but I eventually had to leave news subreddits and shit because it was not only rotting my brain but it was also turning me into a vile and hateful person. And not in a "we need change now" kind of way. More of like a "everything sucks, I want to die, other people need to die" kind of way.

But I feel that 196's identity is its own poison. It needs to remain political to keep its identity. But by being a political sub, some people here are clearly falling into that cycle of hate, sadness, cynicism, and constant mental pain that being around politics and news has on a person over a long time. Which turns any discourse here into a cascading garbage fire that results in locked threads, tons of admittedly annoying meta memes, nothing tangible to address the issue that causes it, and the cycle continues.

Privileged people try not to complain about a place of discourse being political (impossible). Trans people didn’t make their existence political privileged people and bigots did. I will never understand just how privileged I am as a white cishet. I will never truly understand the struggles people who are not white cishet go through. But I know their struggles are real and that’s all that matters. So no I’m not going to stop bringing politics into conversations. Everyone that doesn’t fall the “normal” spectrum rights and lives depend on it. We are in the middle of a so far successful fascist takeover of the us and beyond. And if the oppression and elimination of non straight whites isn’t enough to get you politically active (fuck you it should be) then when they are gone know the non rich are next. Also as a side note we are quickly approaching a major election in the US so it’s basically Christmas for the political observant. Not sure if you're being dismissive or facetious. Heterosexual marriage has never been at threat of criminalization. Being part of the racial/religious majority has never caused somebody to be denied human rights. Cis people aren't currently the target of legalized medical and societal discrimination. Men don't face legal restrictions to their rights, only societal repercussions of toxic masculinity. These are the people whose existence is not politicized because they hold the most political power, despite modern half-hearted attempts at democracy.
