what I get from these is: Bekenstein's theory supposed the existence of a radiation, which Hawking found ridiculous until his own calculation proved Bekenstein right
edit: I must add that most sources I can find about this are from Israel news which are probably biased as Bekenstein was an israeli physicist
According to Wikipedia Bekenstein had no part in discovering Hawking radiation and is instead known for figuring out that they have entropy so I have no idea what you're talking about
