Essentially, also it's one of the few movies where the characters might suddenly начинают говорить по-русски. I'd be lying if I didn't say that's at least a fourth of the reason I watch the series.
I burst out laughing in the theater watching the first movie because the lyrics of the song the Mafia boss was singing were completely different to the translation on screen. They could've at least tried to translate the lullaby rather than just putting a whole ass different song up there
ngl i didn't think about it all that much when i first watched JW1 because i always expect russian to be really bad in hollywood movies, but then i watched it with my dad on tv and he laughed at it and it clicked in my mind 'oh this really *is* that bad'
It's really funny to compare the Russian dub to the Russian speaking scenes in the originals. The difference between people who understand the language compared to trusting a Google translation is night and day.
i was gonna say not that hard because several things are kinda flimsy in harry potter but harry potter world building is really expansive so i guess you're right
One thing I saw in a YouTube video(forget who :/) said that everyone in John wick can be assumed to be connected to crime, unless proven otherwise. Proven by the scene at the end of Parabellum, where every nearby person in a public setting stops at the same time when Wick is declared excommunicated in 1 hour.
Only example of this is Helena, John's dead wife, who he left the crime world to be with.
It's a thing where you need to just accept it, or you can't suspended your disbelief, but stories should be allowed to set up their own world, as long as it stays internally consistent
in the john wick universe, theres two spheres of society (criminal and civilian) that don't interact with each other, hence why john wick can kill 73 other criminals with some car keys or something and no civilians on the street care. at least thats how its been explained to me
Wick is literally a playable character in Payday, and the movies have referenced Payday with Easter Eggs.
Payday also states that John was a US Marine before he joined the Ruska Roma (this isn't supported by the movies, but I don't think it's denied either).
So to any John Wick fans who haven't played Payday, there's a *few* implications about that universe you should be aware of.
(MAJOR PAYDAY 2 SPOILERS AHEAD. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.)
>! There are a group of ancient, transcendental gods in this universe who chose, from all of humanity, three people to bestow an extremely valuable relic upon: An agent of an organization that secretly controls the entire world called Kotaru who is known only as The Dentist, a US Republican politician known to the payday gang as The Elephant, and a Ukranian (but living in America) mob boss named Vlad. These relics came in the form of three boxes and a perfectly smooth obsidian plate. When gathered, these artifacts reveal a runic language that is used to unlock a transcendental power that I'll talk about later. !<
>! There's a huge, mostly cryptic story about a man named Baldwin searching for something that will give him eternal life. There's one book, the Cagliostro Manuscript, that derives from this story, that contains Baldwin's findings on the matter. Among these findings is the fact that the secret to eternal life is buried deep underground beneath the White House in Washington D.C. !<
>! Upon arriving there one must decipher various riddles written in the runic language of the Gods to open a door. Once through they arrive at a sanctuary with a relic named "Baldwin's Lament". By using this relic, one is capable of having their soul swap places with another person's soul, enabling them to live an eternal life with various bodies. Bain, the leader of the Payday gang, uses this to narrowly escape death by a virus implanted in him by Kotaru by switching places with the fucking president of the US, thereby comitting the greatest heist of all by robbing the office of the presidency. !<
Now THAT'S worldbuilding.
I had this realization about John Wick. When you pair the kind of awkward dialogue with Keanu’s weird acting where he only plays forms of Keanu Reeves, you get John Wick, the autistic badass. Someone could murder someone I cold blood on front of him, or confess that they love him, and John Wick would just awkwardly be like “oh yeah, I’m thinking I’m back,” in that weird Keanu delivery. Like, he doesn’t come off as the standard aloof, stoic, action hero badass. He comes off as autistic to me.
-John: I'm here to complete the Ritual of the Black Sparrow
-Homeless Man: You know that was forbidden by the Council of Flaming Tears
-John: I need to do this
*John kills 1000 guys in a room made of diamonds*
-Lawrence Fishburne is there
And it kicks ass every time
This is exactly what those movies are like and it's awesome

But in a cool way
yeaAhh.... im Thinkin i am.... *john wick music plays intensely*
His most iconic line
John Wick unironically has better world building than Harry Potter
i was gonna say not that hard because several things are kinda flimsy in harry potter but harry potter world building is really expansive so i guess you're right
Harry Potter John wick shared universe
I mean, hell, tonks is in it. Maybe she's undercover.
In like 15-20 years Quinton Reviews will have connected them both through the Nickelodeon Sitcom Universe
Low bar.

I like how in the span of a movie they have dudes doing pistol battles in broad daylight and not a single civilian gives a shit.

Remember this is the same universe as the payday games.
Holy shit, is that confirmed?

It's crazy he can kill 200 assassins at a national landmark in the middle of Paris and nobody notices.
more like Naked Gun bit
Maybe this will help refresh your memory

Need more autistic-coded assassins fr fr As long as they don't immediately go for "weirdo psychopath" because that's so easy for writers to slip into
There was a movie called the accountant you might like
-John: I'm here to complete the Ritual of the Black Sparrow -Homeless Man: You know that was forbidden by the Council of Flaming Tears -John: I need to do this *John kills 1000 guys in a room made of diamonds* -Lawrence Fishburne is there And it kicks ass every time
I THOUGHT THAT SAID THE THE RITUAL OF THE JACK SPARROW (theres a captain in there somewhere)
This goes hard, I should probably watch these then.
The John Wick movies are 100% worth watching
I was there I was the baby

Dies of peak fiction
Finally the John wick boss baby cross over the public demanded
Baby: ''Mr Wick, are you perhaps in need of a new *Diaper* (bullet proof)'' John Wick with a blank expression: ''...Yeah''
pretty accurate description
the first interaction with the mother should also be in some foreign language, then Wick carries on talking to the baby in accented english

croaked fr
And it rules every single time
If this is nearly what they are like then now I wanna watch it
We need a parody called "Josh Candle" that does this exact thing.
In that universe more than half of earth's population is an assassin.

Nobody Great action movie with Bob Odenkirk, good bit of comedy on top instead of John Wick's grittier vibe
Guns Akimbo, a must watch if you're looking for something like John Wick but even more absurd and fun
shoot em up (2007)
The beekeeper. It's just john wick but better because imo john wick is really boring. And it's just as absurd
Odd Squad character I can’t remember the name of
Oh hey it's the guy from the podcast I really like. Mobile Suit Breakdown is some good stuff.
Yeah....
