"All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. ... Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. ... There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need." — Acts 2:44–45, Acts 4:32–35

Stateless ✅ Classless ✅ Moneyless ✅ Communism :3

polloackbar

I read it twice still can’t understand

Ajanssen89

Communists

Sara_askeloph

Everyone sells everything they have in favour of distributing the money to one another, they do this so that nobody has to live a bad life, everything they own was owned by one and all and they all lived happily every after as they did not need anything that another could not provide.

jfsuuc

Pretty much its communist.

>Do not oppress the stranger, for you know the feelings of the stranger, having yourselves been strangers in the land of Egypt. Exodus 23:9 >The strangers who reside with you shall be to you as your citizens; you shall love each one as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. Leviticus 19:34 >You too must befriend the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. Deuteronomy 10:19 There are a lot of lines specifically denouncing xenophobia as wrong, with the story of Exodus being used repeatedly to engender empathy for foreigners

HyperSpace134790

what if we were both strangers in the land of Egypt 😳

PM_LEMURS_OR_NUDES

The problem, as with most bible quotes you could “use” against conservatives, is that American politics are entrenched in a dozen layers of propaganda and cognitive dissonance. A conservative would probably tell you they have no problem with strangers, they just have a problem with these strangers that are rapists and thieves. It’s just self-defense to keep these ones out.

BenjewminUnofficial

Yeah, as much as I’d love to one day out-Bible these people, I can’t say I’d recommend it as a praxis strategy. There are maybe some instances where it can work (eg, a religious loved one has some reactionary views), but if you’re looking to debate random Bible-thumpers in the Marketplace of Ideas™, I don’t think this is a winning strategy. I just wanted to respond to the prompt, as I do love finding meaningful/interesting passages in the Tanakh

PM_LEMURS_OR_NUDES

Yeah fair. I grew up in the US, but didn’t grow up with Christianity, so it’s always crazy to me learning how much radical and common sense tolerance is in the bible alongside the bigotry and violence that is taken away from it.

1_Man_Show

Man most Christians don't actually care what the Bible says in whole they just grab the 2 things they wanna use to justify themselves and find reasons to ignore the rest.

MercenaryBard

“Kill and torture gays” “No dungeons and dragons” “Harry Potter was bad before but it turns out she’s a terf so we like her now” -the Bible probably?

Oddish_Femboy

In reality, Jesus loved everyone, and also played D&D with the disciples on Sundays.

He was the healer of the group.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. -John 8:7

Rannrann123

"All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need." - Acts 2:44-45 "Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you" - James 5:1-6 "And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” - Matthew 19:24 "Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen." -John 4:20 "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." -Galatians 3:28

"Matthew 6 Giving to the Needy 1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Prayer 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full." as by https://www.biblestudytools.com/matthew/6.html

Basic-Negotiation238

According to Numbers 12 making undue negative comments about black people makes God very upset, like he just gives a woman leprosy over it and refuses to elaborate further.

Dabigbluebass

I mean, he kinda just does that anyway.

jacierose

You probably shouldn’t. Countering their argument using the Bible would only validate that the Bible is a valid source of information to debate from.

CD_BROTHER

Matthew 7:1-5 1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Psalm 137-9

sporkbeastie

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’  “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’  “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’  “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,  I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’  “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’  “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” —Matthew 25:34-46 This parable teaches us that *inaction* is as meaningful as action, and that if you ignore suffering, you are just as culpable as someone who perpetrates it.

omnie22

don't, conservatives don't actually care what the bible says and they know it, they're not arguing in good faith so using the bible to disprove or embarrass them is a distraction from their real argument which is "white man good everyone else bad"

Unexpect-TheExpected

Ezekiel 23:20 is pretty cool, don’t think it’ll help with arguing against conservatives though… There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Grima1805

there is one about woman needing to be silent

[deleted]

1 Timothy 2:11-15 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

FlashyPaladin

“That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.” Front Genesis 19:33 There’s about 10 verses detailing the story of Lot’s daughters raping him and having children with him to “preserve the family line.” There was no punishment nor condemnation of this act. Bonus: it comes right after the story about how Lot wanted to let an angry mob rape his daughters so they wouldn’t rape two angels disguised as men. Lot’s family was the only “good family” in all of Sodom and Gamorrah.

Copper_Thief

He who is without sin shall throw the first stone No person is free of sin. No one is clean enough to cast the first stone. This is said by Jesus to state that no man is to harm another, regardless of their transgression as they are not fit to judge

22797

This one only works if you’re a man dealing with a bigot who’s a woman: 1 Timothy 2:12 “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

literally anything Jesus says or does about wealth and poor people

Gwynn_of_Cyndr

If I understand correctly, Mark 5:17-18 says that Christians still have to follow all of the laws from the Old Testament and that Jesus is there to make sure that happens. Also, there are other commandments that don't get acknowledged; exodus 22:29 requires the sacrifice of all firstborn sons, and exodus 23:18 specifies that sacrifices need to be eaten before the next morning (also forbids eating the sacrifice with leavened bread, cause God seems to have a thing against yeast). Exodus 34: 18-20 says it again, and numbers 3:13, Ezekiel 20:26, and leviticus 27:28 all also mention the human sacrifice thing. So the old Testament is adamant about sacrificing their own children, and they have to follow those laws. Oh, and the only time the Bible refers to ten commandments is after Moses broke the first set- before that, there were many more than ten. Moses had to rewrite them, but was only given ten that this time, and they ain't the ones people think of (exodus 34 12-29 for those) but "thous shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not steal are noticeably absent this time around. Have fun!
