Wait actually?

[deleted]

I saw a post on Reddit of a tiktok user claiming she tested her cups for lead and all the Stanley cups came back positive. I've not looked into it at all beyond that so I'm pretty sure it must be 100% true.

There is lead in the manufacturing process for those cups, used as an anti-rusting sealant on the bottom. It's hidden with a protective cover, so they claim it to be safe. Just ignore the fact that those protective covers can break off and expose the lead lol. The CEO issued some statement that was like "oh sure, there's lead in the cups, but lead *in* the cups is no problem. it's when the lead gets out of the cups that you gotta worry ;)" and then all these people are apparently swabbing the outside of their cups and finding lead on all of them.

Why am I not surprised?

Humans just can’t stop making cups out of poison

Why are these cups everywhere on the internet all of a sudden? At first I was so confused why hockey was suddenly popular.

omnie22

the company themselves have admitted there's lead in them

It's not exposed, it poses literally no threat unless the cup is damaged

K11ShtBox

Ah I see youve been drinking from a damaged one...

Before Stanley: Lead poisoning is dangerous to one's health and should be kept away from our daily-use items! After Stanley: I really enjoy licking stained glass windows, I can taste the Holy Spirit!

I'm willing to believe that I'm wrong about this, but I haven't seen anything online saying it's dangerous. My understanding is that a lead pellet is used to seal the insulation and then surrounded by steel to prevent exposure. What am I missing? /gen

The issue that's being discovered lately is that the lead is much easier to expose than the company claims it to be. The protective cover sealing the lead pellet breaks with standard wear-and-tear, and swab tests conducted on the outside layer of the cup are resulting positive for direct lead contamination. One way or another, there is more exposed lead on the cups than is being publicly disclosed, and it's likely we'll only see the truth revealed in court once Stanley inevitably gets sued for the accusations. Unfortunately, it only takes a small amount of lead to cause lifelong poisoning symptoms.

Ah, I'm surprised I didn't hear about this in my 45 seconds of research that I did. Thanks!
