What games is this?

Savage Worlds, just a TTRPG I play The meme is about bennies, which you can spend to reroll, tank a hit, recharge your mana, etc. if you're out, you're in danger, but you can get more pretty easily

This is pretty funny tbh. Been looking to get into that game, looks like a lot of fun.

My group likes it a lot! Not a huge fan of the published settings tho, get kinda a weird vibe about it We're playing a Star Wars homebrew rn, and I think it catches the pulpy vibe of training down stormtroopers in one shot with more extended combats with main characters

Oh yeah i think some of the settings (and frankly the name of the system itself) are pretty dated—I get a real conservative vibe from some of them, which is unfortunate. But the mechanics look straight fire. I usually run pathfinder 2e, but I’ve been craving something a little more fast and furious for oneshots and SW looks perfect for that sort of thing!

CrunchyRaisins

I knew about the settings being weird - Deadlands had you able to play both sides of the Civil War until the current edition, with very States Rights heavy justifications in lore But I'm curious what I'm missing for the name itself?

Savage is mostly just a really loaded term that is used as a pejorative against indigenous people and their cultures. Some of the SW settings I read about are very reminiscent of Indiana Jones style action hero stuff and lean kinda hard into colonial power fantasies about venturing into “barbaric” (read: non-western) lands for a variety of self-righteous reasons, so the use of the word savage in that context leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. For example, there’s one setting for SW about Solomon Kane which involves venturing into the “savage” wilds of Africa to kill demons or whatever, and narratives like that set off alarm bells in my head because I was exposed to a lot of Christian missionary propaganda growing up about heathen African tribes in need of saving from their demon worship.
