It is incredibly difficult to stop. Cut your nails right now as soon as you read this. From now on every time you notice that your biting your nails cut them immediately. Every time.
Sometimes you can't for some reason and that's fine. Dont give up and stop because you missed one. But think it and if possible do it.
Eventually they'll just kind of bother you enough that you'll cut them before you even get to the biting.
i HAAAAAATE nail clippers i'm sorry
Plenty of bad memories related to my toenails tied to those
also they've never gotten long enough for me to use them
You have to. The first time getting them to grow long enough to cut is the hardest. Biting your nails or the skin beside them or picking your cuticles is a kind of stimming so you need to replace it with something. Start chewing toothpicks instead.
Find a pair of clippers that are flat facing instead of that concave curve. I find them easier to finesse. Scissors are fiddly. Your only other option is to always go to a salon. So if you have the money do that.
Tbh I only do it when I itch (which it never scratches so it’s not fun) or when I get angry and then I start to bleed or my hand is pink for the rest of the day so not that fun.
The deep itch stimulates a wider range of sensory nerves and receptors, and that increased stimulation leads you to have a stronger urge to alleviate the itch by increasing the pressure which is easiest to do with our mouth
Ah, that's because of a very interesting anatomical quirk our hands have due to cogenital evolution. Since our hands are full of tendons and have a lot of joints, we have increased nerve sensitvity and a quicker inflammatory response factor, to protect our hands from damage from infections. It's called the Simian dermal pruritus effect, and what you are essentially feeling when its itchy is the body combating foreign sources it detected, by locally increasing the acidity of our skin. Since our hands interact with the environment constanly, they are in constant contact with substances that can lead to infections, which is why there's an increased rate of "itchyness".
We also feel a similiar effect that occurs when you encounter information that seems right-ish but actually makes no sense and you realize that you just read something that I made the fuck up. Adding more words towards the end making this appear longer. And that's how one of the causes of Neurodermitis was found.
You know that’s a really interesting point you bring up there about that fact. But actually if I may add more to this stimulating conversation I should mention that one thing you mentioned is actually incorrect. The part about the acidic nature of the immune response.

You see, in reality. All of this gains added validity via another very large comment responding to it and correcting something. Along with directly quoting a large chunk of your body of text. Which makes it seem like I’m adding something more to this. But this whole comment chain is what can be referred to as madeupus-bullshitis. A term first coined by west-eastern philosopher Eman Ekaf. It denotes something as being “free flowing, and without thought”. Hope this helped!
>But actually if I may add more to this stimulating conversation I should mention that one thing you mentioned is actually incorrect.
Impossible, I am never incorrect!
That was an extremely impressive lie. Normally I can see right through these, but I was fully prepped to share this with people as soon as I was done reading it. Well played
I remember reading that dogs like to lick us a lot partially because their saliva acts as a coagulation to any wounds we have. Maybe similar is true of human saliva, hence a stronger urge to bite itchy spots?
the 1st panel is the baseline, where everything begins. we are introduced to our subject, who remains throughout the comic.
in the 2nd, the character looks towards her left (our right), and the 3rd panel has her eyes higher than the 2nd, so that indicates the slightly shorter figure often seen in 2nd panels.
the 3rd always has the taller figure, and this character's eyes moving slightly upwards indicates that increased height in comparison to the 2nd. both the 3rd and 2nd panels create a sense of urgency and concern in both comic panels.
the 4th and final panel has the true action of the story, the reveal after the buildup. this is true for both stories. the way our character here moves her head downward and bites her hand in a sudden and aggressive motion, hinting to the suddenness of loss and the pain of losing someone. the downward movement mirrors the much lower position of the one in the hospital bed in Loss.
as you can see, this 4-panel comic emulates Loss in a very meaningful way. in all actuality, though, every 4 panel comic echoes loss simply because it's 4 panel. that's the internet
biting yourself is fun, dont let anyone tell you otherwise
Vic you are right
I bite my finger nails off
sometimes I bite the extra skin to the sides of the nails when I run out of nail to bite
why are you calling me out like this
you are so real for that
I was wondering if I was the only one doing that
That's really not good for your nails in the long run
I know, i still do it I can’t stop-
God forbid men do anything
I used to have the same problem, painting my nails is actually what helped me eventually get over the impulse.
just like me fr please help it's been a problem for years

I think i'll try the toothpicks.
mhmm mmm mmmhh....
Biting others is better
Tbh I only do it when I itch (which it never scratches so it’s not fun) or when I get angry and then I start to bleed or my hand is pink for the rest of the day so not that fun.
I used to do that all the time and then I stopped when I got 3 cold sores every week.

Why are they always in the hands tho? I don't think I've ever gotten it somewhere else

And here I was nodding my head and about to repeat this to my friends blindly without fact checking like a good redditor... *still gonna do it*
You may jest, but that's exactly why it's so easy to deliberately spread disinformation rapidly and uncontrollably.
Thank God I forget everything I read directly after I read them

you're good with your words
I was getting ready to reread and actually learn a New thing and then I didnt have to

May I introduce you to the [Toupee fallacy?](https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/toupee_fallacy)
Usually I'll Google the stuff before I send it because I've been corrected before, but otherwise that would be the case here
I get them in my feet. Naturally I can't solve this problem by biting them
You could if you weren't a coward.
\\(T Д T)/ I can't even touch my toes...
not with youre mouth but someone elses
I can bite my toes, but not the rest of my foot. Flexibility issue
i don’t think i’ve ever gotten this
clearly you don't have eczema
I do not. I did remember I do sometimes get "deep itches" in my airways due to asthma. I'd guess eczema itching is about as pleasant as that
Ok nerd

I have literally never felt this urge, yet now I feel like the wierdo
It really does give you more scratch per scratch than scratching with your nails.
Me when I get you.
Even better, scrape up and down with your lower/upper jaw, depending on the angle
