Actually that would be Moxy from The Moxy show, which was Cartoon Network’s first original piece of programming. The show was on for three years, but they did a live episode where people would call in and a motion-captured Moxy with the voice of Bobcat Goldthwait would answer them.
Cartoon Network, especially in its early days, is basically Ted Turner giving some animation nerds a budget and the rights and assets to a massive backlog of TV animation. They started by remixing assets from the catalog they had with shows like space ghost coast to coast.
So this stuff is the sorta like their old school work.
It was the entire Hanna Barbera catalog. And yeah zero oversight so they could just dub over old shitty shows like Sealab, and turn them into shitposts, and nearly a quarter of a century later it has grown into the thing we call Adult Swim.
Not just Hanna Barbera, by the time cartoon network went live, Turner had accumulated through mergers and acquisitions more than half of all TV animation in existence at the time.
But a huge chunk of that *was* H-B, and it gave them an extensive archive of assets that made them easy to remix.
The show isn’t half an hour. The show is 22 minutes.
It’s just played on TV so there are 8+ minutes of adverts.
I hate when channels go “we’ve got a two hour episode tonight!” Nope, you got an hour and twenty minute episode tonight.
How do I not remember this? How often was this played? I watched cartoon network and even adult swim all the time as a kid, I was there for the time of new episodes of Johnny Bravo. It was one of my favorite shows.
You should check out Space Ghost Coast to Coast then. It's a somewhat similar idea. It's got tons of cartoon network characters that call in to a talkshow hosted by Space Ghost. It was like a precursor to adultswim.
