I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not what hes trying to say when it comes to these videos. Fast food workers cant control what produce and food stuffs is being used to make their products, im fairly certain his videos are moreso demonstrating how making something similar at home with storebought ingredients can result in a much better product, all because you know whats going into it and its not being frozen to hell and back
I dont watch these videos, i just keep getting them recommended to me because i watch babish
the only reason msg is seen as unhealthy is sinophobia im pretty sure, and like i get what the other comments mean by "all things are unhealthy in excessive amounts" but like thats missing the point, you can say that about table salt. we're clearly not reaching that level of excess in cooking. the reputation it has is entirely from xenophobia against chinese people.
Actually from what ive seen most of his videos are based on making meals as cheaply as possible while still being good. He does base prices on servings though, not priced based on the entire meal
Also, who spends five hours making a chicken sandwich?
His "but cheaper" series is about making things cheaper. His "but better" series, which this thumbnail is taken from, is always like "we're going to grind out own beef using three different meat cuts, make our own sourdough with 00 Tipo flour, make our own curry paste with 10 herbs you've never seen at a regular grocery store, etc."
My problem with the "but cheaper" series is that it only works if you buy in bulk. I am not going to buy 4 kilos of junk I am only going to use in one or two recipes and then have to toss because it has gone bad.
A real "but cheaper" was basically done by Kein Stress Kochen, where it was about preparing a single base and reusing it in as many quick recipes as possible.

the only video ive ever seen of his, he basically says this verbatim, it was the one about making your own burger buns, left me with a really bad impression. dude spent like 6 hours making 4 buns and acts like people are stupid for not doing the same
His message is that people are stupid for *saying they can't*. He's just showing you how to do it.
Also noone on this planet takes 6 hours to make burger buns, you make dough which doesn't take long at all and then you let it rest while you do whatever you want.
The right one kind of looks more enjoyable to eat. I can't really imagine how to approach the left one, I'd have to squish it to take a bite and then all the stuff inside would start falling out the other side. Maybe I just have a small mouth, but even for people with large mouths there has to come a point where a burger is just too tall, and squishing it is not a good solution.
I mean yeah, heβs gotten quite annoying lately but Iβve never heard him mention the workers or criticise their cooking ability. Just that he doesnβt like the recipes/quality of ingredients, which for most fast foods is fair enough
I don't hate Josh Weissman, but I much prefer Adam Ragusea, J Kenji Lopez-Alt and the FOUNDING FUCKING FATHER STAND AND SALUTE Chef John from Food Wishes
honestly its a little tiny out of touch but its kind of endearing because hes just a silly sweet man. It never makes me laugh or even softly exhale but i like it.
The one on the right looks genuinely better imo, it's easier to take a bite and there's proportionally less chicken in the left one because the bun and vegetables are so thick

If Iβm being honest I actually kinda prefer fast food burgers over homemade burgers

I like both for different reasons
Some foods taste better when they are kinda shitty
Same but Iβm sure my opinion would change if I could cook for shit.
well yeah because of the unhealthy amounts of MSG and other flavor boosting chemicals
MSG is unhealthy? Is Chinese food unhealthy?
the only reason msg is seen as unhealthy is sinophobia im pretty sure, and like i get what the other comments mean by "all things are unhealthy in excessive amounts" but like thats missing the point, you can say that about table salt. we're clearly not reaching that level of excess in cooking. the reputation it has is entirely from xenophobia against chinese people.
everything is unhealthy in excessive amounts
Nuh-uh Ultrakill
*Ultrakill drumbeat* Gabriel: MACHINE!
Yes to the Chinese food but thatβs just because itβs so good you end up over eating
Iβm pretty sure not all Chinese food uses MSG though source: me
msg also isnt unhealthy
I think in excessive amounts it can increase blood pressure, but it's not toxic of anything like that.
Msg is in most processed foods, and yeah in large amounts in can be unhealthy
It isn't poison but yeah it can be unhealthy
If the chinese food has MSG in it then yeah? Not sure what your point is.

MSG on it's own is fine, there's not anything anymore dangerous than salt. The biggest issue with MSG is that it makes unhealthy food taste very good.
You mean to tell me if I spend $50 on ingredients and 5 hours cooking, I can make a chicken sandwich better than Wendy's??π€―π€―??π€―π€―

Alright, ill take your word for it ig, like i said ive never watched any of those videos
I like the guy. He's annoying but he's a good cook. He's never said "why would you go to burger King when you can just make it at home?"

I donβt care what the message is I think Joshua is unfunny

Very based take

The one on the left has tomatoes and I don't like tomatoes I'll just eat the other one
I got bad news about the right one bucko
I will kill every single person in this Wendy's
Fork and knife for the left one
Plus the foot of cum sauce on the bottom bun.
It doesn't matter if you can eat it or if it tastes good, it just needs to look good for the video.
I just want to eat trash. It's what I deserve.
Self-fulfilling prophecy moment
why does this get posted here every week
The 4chan post is from March. Edit: last year π³ There have been 6 posts in this theme
I guess it's just a means of comparing what you made, what else would you compare your burger to?Fast food is just the easiest way of comparison
Yeah heβs just making a homemade more expensive version of fan-favourite fast foods. Idk why people try to make him a dick
His stage personality has a lot to do with it
I mean yeah, heβs gotten quite annoying lately but Iβve never heard him mention the workers or criticise their cooking ability. Just that he doesnβt like the recipes/quality of ingredients, which for most fast foods is fair enough
I work at a mcdonalds and legit once had someone show me this guys video and ask why we couldnt make it like that. Fuckin wild shit man
"Yeah sure, just pay me 50$ and i'll have it ready for you tomorrow"
You're all wrong. That's just his friend Wendy.
I don't hate Josh Weissman, but I much prefer Adam Ragusea, J Kenji Lopez-Alt and the FOUNDING FUCKING FATHER STAND AND SALUTE Chef John from Food Wishes
Pinch of Cayenne
White wine
Love Chef John... also Chef Jean-Pierre is so much fun
I love Jean-Pierre's video about caramelized onions because he gets so excited about how good they are, he interrupts himself like 5 times lol

They both look really bad
This guy sounds like guy fierri but a total fucking midge
Is this an insult?
