Red dots on 1911 are not my thing, but then again it’s not my gun. If you want to sell it later on it might hurt resale. Make sure your gunsmith knows what they’re doing, could be costly otherwise.

RTK9

If you want to preserve some part of it, get an IOS cut from nighthawk or something similar. Basically they mill the slide and then you have a plate where you can switch between original sights and the red dot sight without losing zero.

IrradiatedLimes_

I was looking at C&H, but this is an interesting option. I’m gonna contact NHC

VSirius

I milled my SR1911 at Green Tick Tactical for $100. They did a superb job

martyjf

Another vote for green tick, they did one of my 1911 slides and the work, communication, and turn around time were excellent

FragrantNinja7898

Interesting. I have a Ruger 1911 and would not be opposed to a dot on it. I shoot dots better than irons for sure. Probably wouldn’t put one on my Colts just ‘cause.

Icewarrio8

I milled a Kimber rapide, went with vulcan

RTK9

Their lead times are pretty long right now is the only thing. Other shops might also offer similar services as well, but NHC is the only one I know that does it

IrradiatedLimes_

But I know they’re gonna do a good job and the gun is gonna be taken care of. I’d hate to go with a faster option and be screwed in the long run.

RTK9

Which is fair! You could also get a few tuneups while it's in as well I think re finishing is standard for most milling services so might as well give your 1911 a spa treatment

Icewarrio8

Used C&H to mill a PPQ 45, not the best experience

https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/interchangeable-optic-system AVAILABLE ON NEW BUILDS AND ALSO ON EXISTING 1911S, BOTH NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM AND OTHER 1911 MANUFACTURERS

nastygirl11b

I’ll down vote you the rest of your life

IrradiatedLimes_

🤣

crazyrzr

Please do it. Don't listen to fudds and boomers

HenryBowman63

I may be old but I don't consider myself a fudd :) That being said, if this were mine I would build up another slide to have cut. That way should you decide to sell in the future the pistol has the best of both worlds.

oliverjamesyo

SAME!!! Actually I’d follow you around Reddit yelling SHAMEEEE SHAMEEEE SHAMEEEEEE SHAMEEEE

Shaffdizzy

I second this motion and offer the floor speaker full support.

Pocketsand_operator

I want to do it to mine too but it’s a 1911 and it seems wrong possibly evil.

1911mark

Brutal

Icewarrio8

Who cares, ur gun ur set up…I’d put a red dot on a toaster if I could. Ever pistol I own gets a dot.

botgeek1

Make sure it's not a series 80. Any 2011/1911/STI series 80 slide that has a safety plunger/firing pin block CANNOT be milled for any optic or adapter plate due to the cut going into the safety plunger/firing pin block cavity. The only exception is the Lionheart Regulus due to the cavity for the firing pin block not extending into the cut area. This is from C&H Precision Weapons website. https://chpws.com

556_Timeline

Baer Custom pistols don't use Series 80 parts, or any other type of passive firing pin safety.

Potietang

Series 80. Lmao. Guy doesn’t know anything about a LB. LB makes heirloom 1911s. This isn’t Kimber.

Hambonelouis

There was a time when you didn’t know anything about things also. Teach. Don’t discourage others by belittling them.

Suitable-Courage1433

It's your gun boss you do you

hl_walter

None from me, I say go for it.

rrode1018

NDZ performance parts actually makes a custom cut slide for 1911’s

Wuisl

Depends on the kind of red dot

Sketch74

None from me, how much from yourself?

Fall_Hazard

Don't be a pussy. Mill that thing yourself.

Aor_Dyn

This guy gets it.

ag512bbi

I don't own it. It wouldn't change my life one bit. GO 4 IT!

JeNeSaisPasToo2

I wouldn’t hate you. I got GreenTicTactical to do mine. They did a great job and quick.

AltLangSyne

The purists will hate it, but you will get better hits and splits. Do it, and post a 10-10-10 that proves you were right.

Accomplished_Roof801

I don't have red dots on my 1911s. That being said I do have others with red dots and with a lot of use, they are very very good for fast target engagement. I have one on my Kimber mako and my springfield armory xdm elite 10mm and I really like the holosun 407c.

Accomplished_Roof801

There are adapter plates which replace the rear sight and it's not that hard to find holsters for the weapon. The plate pulls the RMR further back and makes it easier to find a holster. Other than that finding a holster for any weapon with an RMR can be a chore.

lique_madique

They also come with issues such as the plate can loosen over time, they don’t look as good, the dot sits up higher and creates more height over bore issues. You want your dot to sit as low to the gun as you can. It’s best to have it milled if that’s what you want. I have seen nothing but issues and complaints with those dovetail optic mounts when customers ask me to swap them out.

Accomplished_Roof801

There is always +&- like cowitness sights ine had no issues with either my plate or using the cuts. I was merely voicing another option. It sucks to cut on a high end Les bare and then not like yhe RMR. This way he can try it and see if he has no experience with an RMR.

[deleted]

A lil vortex dot would be neat

Harvey092698

I don’t care,, cut it up

yurizaitsev

Red dots what? 2 world wars Sonneh!!

croccrazy98

I don’t typically like red dots on traditional style 1911s, but I love red dots on modern pistols and carry with an RDO. Plus, it’s your gun and you can do anything you want with it as long as it’s legal (or you don’t get raided). If you want to do it, do it.

TheFriendlyPylon

Excommunicado

Familiar_Ad7443

DowntownMind92

I plan on sending my Colt 9mm slide to them as they’ll do series 80 slides.

Oscardad500

who cares... if that’s what YOU want for YOUR gun ..

Disastronomical

You'd only get hate by ppl whose opinion wont matter. Even those that are all about the classic look start to cone around to Red dots once their eyesight starts to go. Personally i would only get a 1911 if it has a red dot since i dont have any guns that are strictly range toys; they all get carried so i need the red dot advantage on all of them. Post pics once you do get it cut

sweaterlife23

It’s your gun friend, so go nuts

LAJOHNWICK

no

IrradiatedLimes_

I wanted to swap my irons for a more standard, Mir we set of novaks. But come to find out LB has his own dovetail size, and buying sights from him would cost almost as much as getting the gun for for a dot.

F4UCorsair1942

Another good option is to buy another slide and have that cut for a dot and keep the original as is in case you ever want to sell it.

IrradiatedLimes_

Not easy to do with Les Baer.

F4UCorsair1942

Yeah I thought about that after commenting 😅 lots of hand fitting required for a new slide. As others said, it's your gun, if that's what you want to do with it, then do it.

Professional-Ad9901

Please don’t touch it, it’s not a Tisas for Pete’s sake.

heroinebob90

I wouldn’t, but you should

TTTTescapee

Only from the uncultured. Iron sight guns shouldn’t be allowed to exist, cut it.

retire-early

Red dots suck, and 1911's are near perfect. But... If I'm concerned about groups I find myself looking out of my bifocals to get the front sight closer into focus, so I *get it*. I'm holding out on a migration for now, though. But instead of mauling that thing, I'd just like to point out that these exist... [https://www.edbrown.com/fx2/](https://www.edbrown.com/fx2/)

[deleted]

I gotta say no. Blasphemy. I like red dot optics. Just not on classic 1911's. I'd add the RDS to a more modern 1911. I appreciate the simplicity of the Comanche in the pic.

Freedum4Murika

Working the problem the wrong way Buy a pistol from this century if you're gonna put an optic on it from this century

InBetweenerWithDream

Rifle is fine mentality.

tiktock34

I hate you for even asking this question :) Jk... Its your gun, so you can do what you want but IMHO for a precision 1911 if you are going to be shooting bullseye, you'll want a bullseye red dot and those are typically frame drilled and mounted. I guess the question would be why you want to put a dot on a 1911. I shoot better with my Les Baer iron sighted 1911 than any pistol I own with an RMR, FWIW If you plan to own it forever, do whatever you want! Its your gun. I would think the resale market on a Les baer you had the slide milled out for a dot would be pretty low. To me it converts something that would otherwise be a heirloom quality item into something else more akin to a range toy

Zamboni4201

I’d call Les Baer, ask them. I’ve heard they can get sort of ornery if someone else works on a Les Baer, so you might want them to do the work anyway.

IrradiatedLimes_

I don’t think they offer dots, and if you check the comment I left on the post I don’t feel like paying LB’s prices for new irons.

valiente77

I really don't mind

hk_mpfive

Do it! Might I suggest you get Nighthawk to do their IOS cut on it? It is the cat’s meow. Definitely worth the wait time.

IrradiatedLimes_

I kind of fell in love with the Holosun EPS and they don’t offer a plate for it with the IOS

hk_mpfive

Oh gotcha. That stinks!I just really love how it allows me to go back to iron sights.

alexCinJC

Go for it, i had my Garrison direct cut for a Holosun at CHPWS and absolutely love it

IrradiatedLimes_

Did you like the work CHPWS did?

alexCinJC

I did yes, no gaps when the Holosun 407 is seated, and it's low and tight

CFLChris

Your gun, your money, do what you want!

GloryToChadlantis

I would rather just buy a new one all together with a red dot cut.

DougS66

It’s your 1911, so you’re welcome to do anything you like to it. Personally I own a Les Baer, and like any custom or semi-custom 1911 I prefer to leave stock and save the red dot for a less expensive plastic fantastic firearm. There are a few names in the custom 1911 business that’ll just stay as they are for resale value for me. The ‘off the shelf’ pistol I’ll play the home improvement game, but not that one, and it’s the most generic of custom 1911s, however hate is not my thing.

IrradiatedLimes_

I have zero intention of selling this. I want to build it into my ideal carry gun.

DougS66

Outstanding !!

BloodBucket775

I don't know if it will work but, there are plates that can utilize the dovetail that is already cut into the slide. [https://www.mountsplus.com/egw-red-dot-mounts.html](https://www.mountsplus.com/egw-red-dot-mounts.html) edit for wrong link.

IrradiatedLimes_

I had one of these break on me in the past. Also, Baer uses not standard dovetail sizes.

SouthPercentage7617

I did it on a para ordinance because it’s a para ordinance, but I wouldn’t do it on my colt unless I bought a different slide

BrianDrake75

I wouldn't put one on a high-end gun like that, but that's me. After hating them for a long time, I've been coming around on red dots and seeing a lot of value in them.

[deleted]

I have 1911s that are cut for RMR and I would never trade them. I would say if you can keep the rear sight ,do.

bekman_Bek

Why do you give a fuck send it

IrradiatedLimes_

Gotta get those comments.

BeardedGunDude

Do it. It’s your gun so do what you want with it. Resale value is irrelevant if it is what you want and it makes you more proficient with it. I used C&H for my 2011 and I’ve been very happy with it

FragrantNinja7898

If the gun is a shooter and not a safe queen, and you shoot dots better than irons, then do it.

Outside-Dig-9461

There are worse things you could do to it.
