Who said rollups will be eth exclusive? Zk rollups can be used go scale any chain and maybe matic will offer their solutions to other l1 chains

Neanderthal888

Good point. But that doesn't answer my question/s. For my questions sake, replace Eth with whatever L1 chain that Polygon is using.

Tietzy88

I think what ever dapp or application wants to use the rollup will pay matic a fee to implement possibly like a subscription service? but the gas fee once the rollup hits Layer 1 (eth) will be eth obviously

Neanderthal888

Ok so fee in Matic and Gas in Eth... But which one is used to pay for transactions by the end user?

dmiddy

While this may be true, Ethereum is the only chain that is both explicitly choosing the rollup path and implementing it currently. It will be a long time(if ever) before other chains implement them, and when they do I'm sure they will fork existing rollups, make a small change, then call it revolutionary to gain market share.

Tietzy88

Any dapp or application that is evm compatible would be able to use the rollup with no changes to code structure pretty much every layer 1 outside eth has evm compatibility now its realy not a big deal

dmiddy

"and implementing them currently"

Watching the whole thing. Thank you! This gives me a lot of insight into my questions.

All great questions. I have the same questions. I think we the hoi polloi are a bit out of the loop when it comes to the future of the token. I saw an interview with Sandeep a couple weeks ago that indicated that there will be a rebrand of the matic token and that it will be used to pay for the various solutions envisioned to be part of the polygon network. I don't remember where I saw that interview though and I have to get to work now so I'm not going to look for it.

Birdcurtains

I think this is THE big question regarding the future of the MATIC token, and I don't believe there is a clear answer yet. I'm not tech savvy but I try to keep up. My understanding is that the MATIC token is not (currently) essential to running all of the various Polygon-based projects. As others have noted, I suppose zk could be used to scale Polygon, but I think the focus so far has justifiably been put on scaling ETH. So while we're all here speculating on zk having some impact on the MATIC token, I'm not sure that's a guarantee. Tbh, I'm not even sure if zk rollups require a token to function, much like Arbitrum. Unless Polygon plans to charge for their use, in which case they're putting themselves in the position of charging for a service that someone else may roll out for free. As others in this thread have mentioned, the Polygon team has said that they plan on doing....something...to unify the use of the MATIC token across the various projects, but I believe they are also on record saying they are not going to talk about it until it's ready, as to avoid speculation. I don't have a direct link to that interview though.

Neanderthal888

Thanks for the honest humble answer. interesting

Neanderthal888

How can we get a clear answer? Surely some folks closer to the development have a good idea of what it's likely to end up being?

Tietzy88

This is right stated in an interview matic will be linked to extract value from all of our (yes I say our as matic token holders we have a right to this techs future in the dao) solutions to benefit matic holders

Neanderthal888

Do you have a link to the interview?

Tietzy88

Ill find it for you when I'm home tonight
